Depending on how you can config the monitor, it would give either a stretched image with a small number of ugly pixels because the 360 won't output in the monitor's native resolution, or letterboxing.

Aye, all HD resolutions are widescreen, so you will get some crazy stretching and squashing going on in a few games. Nothing too offensive, just looks a bit mad. I think PGR3 is one of the games that is affected, the cars are about half the width they should be.

They really need to expand the resolutions supported by 360. 1440x900 is Far too common these days to be ignored.

My guess is sooner or later it will be addressed... so everything should look OK now and better in the future.

I use a monitor of similar spec. It offers a very good picture, I wouldn't say that the stretching is all that bad, in all honesty, it's only stretching the whole height by 1 inch which isn't that noticeable. I will probably see a difference when I get my HDTV in February.

I use a Westinghouse monitor with pretty much the same specs as him. I never notice any stretching though...Ofcourse I haven't played PGR3. But I use the 360s 1366X768(I think thats the last numbers) and the picture looks fine. My native resolution is 1440X900 as well.

Thanks for the input. I'm thinking of a new monitor as well and wouldn't mind if it supported the 360.

Yeah except in Britain we can ONLY pay for things in pounds. I live in an overpriced country so us Brits are used to it.

I had it set up on a 20inch square combi tv/dvd player which has now had it, so I ordered an LCD monitor which I am STILL waiting on which should be today!! and my buy now pay later 50inch TV should be here by next week, I'll post a pic when it gets here. At this moment in time my poor xbox is sat disconnected on a sideboard...

Nice Panny plasma man. I'd like one of those, i've got a 42" toshiba it's a little more affordable.

Is this the part where we heckle you into a buying an expensive 5.1 sound system on a payment plan? :D

lol. I can live without the sound system.

Monitor turned up about 2hrs ago now and playing that on 1024 x 768 which is quite impressive on it's own.

I can't wait to see what 1080i looks like now

does UNO make anyone else dizzy. In widescreen and bright colours I seem to feel dizzy when I play UNO

Are you by any chance hogging the peace pipe while you play uno? lol jk..I don't ever have that problem though.

1024 x 768??? That is for use on 4:3 format monitors I believe.
You might want to change that to 1280 x 720 or 1360 x 768.

Rival24

Exactly, not playing in the native resolution sucks.

UKJAY
December 7th, 2006, 16:10
The monitor has res up to 1440 x 900 and not 1400 x 900 like I originally stated, but 1024 x 768 prob is for 4:3, but it looks and fits fine, the xbox is set on widescreen mode, theres no bits of screen cut out or missing. 1360 x 768 doesn't look any different? Im guessing that higher res is only noticable the bigger the monitor or tv screen to notice any difference.

I think with a lot of monitors having 1440 x 900 screen size (16:10) you would think they'd support that in the screen options wouldn't you?

kidkit
December 7th, 2006, 17:38
Well, i said it early but 1440x900 is becoming more and more common, I'm fairly sure though that you should be using 1360x768, it's closer to your native resolution. The best way to look for glitches and such is a full screen of text, see if any lettering is skewed etc, that should help you find the best resolution for now.

UKJAY
December 8th, 2006, 04:38
Oh thanks for that KidKit, prompted me to experiment more...1360x768 made about a 1.5cm black space on the far right, but the 1280x768 is perfect now I know how to use the monitors on screen res matching thing... plus the 1280 x 768 is proper widescreen format i think instead of 1024x768. cheers

edit:

Actually take it back...lol im useless with screens. Managed to get the 1360 x 768 working fine afterall - just had to move the H-Position left a bit. Its now even more perfect. Hooray its fully setup now!!!

I have all this fuss again next week when my tv arrives...lol

Well it is not as good as the plasma you ordered, but I did just order me a 19in Samsung. But since it is just for my bedroom I will survive on 19in lol.

I am getting a 32" LCD HDTV soon, and it's a company I've never heard of before called Visco. Anyone hear of them before? The TV is a reasonable price at 600 usd for 32" with a ton of features.

yeah the 50inch plasma will have to stay downstairs!! I'll move my console down there when its here. But my monitor is 19in and in my room, I'd agree that its big enough for a bedroom.

You're already playing it in HD quality. HD is about screen resolution. Playing 1360 x 768 using a VGA cable on a HD TV, is not going to give you better pic quality than 1360 x 768 on an LCD monitor, because the output image is still the same res. The only difference will be in the colours, most monitors produce 16.2 - 16.7 Million colours where as a TV can produce billions of colours - so in effect it'll just look more colourful. True HD is meant to be 1920 x 1080 anyway so im looking forward to eventually seeing it

Yeah I have two jobs. One is part time accounts, and another im contacted for as and when which pays very well, but unfortunately its not an all year thing! - I know how it is... my big screen is coming in on buy now pay later cos I know by September I can get the money by then, plus even if I don't find it, they change it to a monthly plan with a bit of interest - but it'll be fine.

UNO by the way looks worse in HD dont you think? I think its the grainy live cam, I wonder how long it'll be before HD Live cam is released!!

With an unstructured network? I'm not a network engineer or anything, but doesn't streaming 720p over the internet seem like a problem unless the camera software comes with its own software/ dedicated network?
