Whenever I go in and decide to play Geometry Wars my high score is 10,000. When I hit 100,000 it dings like I got a new acheivement when I've already won that one. Then when I die it shows the acheivements I've won even though I already have them. I don't however get the standard "Acheivement unlocked" screen as I shouldn't.
What's going on here? Any ideas?

i duno i think they're just like mini accomplishments in game as well. You still can 'win' them each time even if you've already unlocked the actual Achievement.
one thing i didn't know and learned on the geometry wars forums a few weeks back was that if you're going for the 'survive 1 million' achievement, you have to survive the first 1 million. you cant go from 1000 - 1,001,000
you have to go from 0 - 1,000,000.
duno if www.ign.com 's guide is still free, it was for xmas, gave a few obvious tips that you don't really think about but occasionaly do on your own. it's worth a read.

How did you not know that...it would be the same as every other style achievement like that, like survive 500,000 and such i guess its poor english on their part but still its pretty obvious if you jusdt think about it

The sound you mention means that you received a bomb or life (can't recall for sure which one). So it doesn't have to do with an achievement.
After you are done with a game (game over) you can see how many achievements you have. This means that you can check how well you did any time. It doesn't mean anything else... for example it doesn't mean that there are locked and you unlocked them or something like that.
I hope i helped ;)

Oh how wrong you are. It does the Acheivment ding. Trust me I know the difference.
I just don't get why it resets my high score when I stop playing.

It does indeed ring the achievement bell every time you get one of the game's achievements, for sure :)
