Ever wonder why Microsoft hasn't released an HDMI cable for the Xbox 360, or whether the AV port was really capable of digital out? Well, here's your answer: we landed pictures of what appears to be the second Xbox 360 -- the Xbox 360 v2, if you will -- codenamed Zephyr. (The original Xbox 360, if you recall, was codenamed Xenon.) The long rumored about and awaited update to the console won't just feature a new, cooler 65nm processor, it's also finally added an HDMI port for full digital 1080p pleasure, as well as a 120GB drive, just what the doctor ordered. The 120GB drive may or may not come bundled with the kit, we don't yet know, just as we also don't yet know how much a Zephyr 360 is going to run (we imagine it'll go for the same price as currently so they can keep up a little on their expanding margin). But our very kind Xbox insider seemed happy to let us know we'd be able to get them "soon."

I think this deserves a until we get the official word from Microsoft this story should be treated as a rumor tag.

Sorry if this is going to be a news article, but I imagine that that is going to get rammed pretty quick.

So what you think about it? Me..? Pissed off unless I get some kind of refund towards the new one kind of deal. 120gb does sound tasty though, hope thats available for seperate purchase.

I'll wait for official word, that image looks like it could be a fake (the components are all too shiny!) but engadget are usually pretty good.

Yeah, discounts or upgrades for us chumps who've been supporting the 360 for the past twelve months please :/

(if this is legit...)
I feel bad for anyone who bought a 360 recently, but I have had my 360 since launch and really wouldn't have a huge problem selling mine to a friend to help with the cost of a new HDMI model.

That said... HDMI isn't a huge draw for me, and i doubt the tv / movie marketplace won't be in a Canada anytime soon so i really don't need a larger HDD.

This is only a positive development (if true...) so individuals need to stop feeling like they got screwed over. Besides, how soon do you think it will actually be on shelves? Summer?

Ya I don't feel screwed over at all, but then again my HDTV is oldskool and doesn't have HDMI.

This is nothing different than Nintendo releasing a DS Lite or sony releasing the (crappy) Slim PS2 (doesn't support SlideCard!!!). It's been out over a year, and now it's being improved.

My roomate just bought a 360 like 2 months ago tho... and a brand new LCD tv... I'm sure he'll be pretty upset about this...

There's always EBAY. Thousands of people wouldn't care at all that they got a 'substandard' 360. Thousands of people don't have HD. ;).

My TV does have HDMI and I couldn't care less. It's a minor hardware upgrade, just a regular facelift that you know beforehand will happen to Wii and PS3 as well, just like they did with every console over the past 20 years.

The bigger harddrive is good, but that will be available in shops too for those that care (I've never been below 6GB myself).

Noone's ever demanded a discount on a newly upgraded car because they'd bought the less shiny version a year before. I'm always curious why people seem to expect that only from consoles.

however........if you look on the back at that label on the top right it says Xbox 360 Console which means that more than likeley that is a xbox 360 xenon...thge original...i think its a rumor....

If only Newegg sold 360s.

I bought a video card from newegg and used it for a year and a half. It died, so i shipped it back to newegg to get it repaired / replaced, and they gave me a full refund for the product because it was no longer in stock. It was incredible.

What companies allow a full refund after nearly 2 years of using a product?

Only Newegg.

I think the problem here is that everyone knows that a newer model of a car will happen regardless. MS has said nothing about a newer machine, then 'apparently' have just turned around (right after christmas with thousands of new people onboard) and said "Fuck you, you just bought the shit model, come get this one, it rocks! We've added ALL the MOST wanted featuers you all wanted, even though we said we will NEVER have this stuff."(MS have repeatedly said that there are no plans for a bigger hard drive or HDMI support) I think that's the problem. Wouldn't be too bad if we were told MONTHS before release, assuming this is real ofcourse.

DAMNIT! XBOX BETTER REFUND MY MONEYZ!

and to trigger, that's business isn't it? :(. Good business too. Imagine the warehouses stocked with 'worthless' 360s had they released a newer model...

Get rid of old inventory, then start making the new ones. sucks. but is genius from their end.

I'm with Curry on this one, don't have a problem with it at all, if in fact the story is true.

It'd be like buying a Nintendo DS then later getting your knickers in a twist for them releasing the DS Lite. The Xbox 360 is already over a year old now, it's inevitable that a new revised model would be released at some point.

I disagree with most of the above. When you go to buy a brand new car, does the car dealer specifically point out that a newer model will be out shortly and the car your about to buy will drop in value by around 50% in a years time? No.

Everyone should know that a newer model of a console can happen regardless, we've seen it on so many consoles before, it just makes sense.

MS has said nothing about a newer machine, then 'apparently' have just turned around (right after christmas with thousands of new people onboard) and said "Fuck you, you just bought the shit model, come get this one, it rocks!
MS has always said that a revision to a 65nm process would be in the pipeline. The current model isn't shit by any means. Apparantly would be the key word in your statement.

We've added ALL the MOST wanted featuers you all wanted, even though we said we will NEVER have this stuff."(MS have repeatedly said that there are no plans for a bigger hard drive or HDMI support) I think that's the problem. I wouldn't go as far as to say all the most wanted features. How about intergral Wi-Fi or intergral HD-DVD? MS repeatedly said that they are watching the market and HDMI at point of release wasn't neccesary. They did however continue to point out that they were watching the market, indicating that it would be a possibility should the need be sufficient.

Assuming this is real of course.

How about intergral Wi-Fi or intergral HD-DVD?

I thought the '360 community' liked the idea of not having those in as standard, as must hardcore 360'ers say it's all about choice.

Yeah, that was just my take on why I thought people (not so much here at Xboxic) are getting pissed (me included.)
I think I'll be cool with it if they released a bigger hard drive and HDMI cable sperate for the older 360's as well.

If an HDMI cable was possible I'm sure it would have been out by now.

You know what is bothering me... what happens if you have a monitor without an audio out? Kind of a bummer that you wouldn't be able to use HDMI on that display.

photoshop only works on still images :+

Don't hold your breath for Linux ;) Even if the hooded man is really on to something (I'd say 25% chance) it'll take months to get Linux usable on the completely custom hardware.

For the time being I'm curious for how that story will continue.

MS confirmed that "there is stuff going on in their research labs and a lot is being experimented with". No confirmation of HDMI or an Xbox 360 revision whatsoever (duh), just a small notice stating that they are working on new technologies and that they do not comment on rumors or speculation (duh :+ ).
