The Halo 2 question

It's been a while since I thought about this, but I was wondering:

Who here is of the Halo 2 was for 'noobs' school (ie people who didn't like the SMG) and who thought halo 2 was a good online game?

Back in the day I had to leave some forums as people were just flaming you if you mentioned you liked Halo 2 and thought it was good. I was wondering if opinions had changed somewhat 2 years on, and how people consider the game in history.

Many people disliked the auto-aim and say it removed all the skill from the game, but surely there is more to playing an FPS than aiming? Surely map layout, teamwork and general strategy are more important? Your words please...

All opinions are welcome, but keep it clean.

I like Halo i think its good fun but i dont play on live cos i always get the crap beaten out of me but yes we will get flamed for liking it for me it was the reason to get an xbox (well i got one cos i like halo but have the limited edition of Halo 2) although the gravemind did lessen the experience for me cos it looked like the little shop of horrors creature and the brutes were blates a rush job i liked the smg but felt teh battle rifle was a bit obsolite cos of duel whelding but i cannot wait for Halo 3 and Halo Wars

I just hate it when people hate on things because it's popular.
An example of this is emo punk-heads not listening to the radio because it's "popular, and they only sing for the money." Or shit like "SELLOUT, THEY FUCKING SUCK NOW"

I can accept that people just don't like Halo.
It's the people that say it's medicore, overhyped and overrated then turn around and say "Time Splitterz for teh win!"

Still, Halo 2 is one of my fave games EVER.

What's wrong with Timesplitters? That game is far more enjoyable than Halo could ever be.

I don't hate Halo because it's popular. I accept that people do manage to find it enjoyable. I just didn't like it when I played it. It wasn't as good as everyone promised (IMO), and I just ended up not liking it.

Although a lot of people hate something just because it's popular, part of the whole thing is the hype that these popular things build up. Halo 3, MGS4 have massive amounts of hype and it's almost a guaranteed letdown because of all the crap that'll start happening soon. Gears of War however, actually met people's expectations.

Halo 2 was ok, for some reason it just did not "feel" good enough. maybe it's something about the controls, or something, idk, but i just dont like it a whole lot. it's damn fun to play with 15 other friends though.

Good opinions here, and at least nobody is calling there clan members at home and getting them to flame me. Seriously, last time I said I liked halo 2 and thought it was a good game some guy got 7 other people to flame the thread, and also called me 'a certain nazi dictator' as I asked if we could agree to disagree.

I played the single player of halo 1 from beginning to end in coop several times but disliked the multiplayer.

But with the coming of Halo 2 I liked the multiplay alot, even bought live for it to play online, Almost every week we come together with 12 persons to LAN halo 2 on 3 to 4 tv's. We all have 360's and still play this game over LAN because there isn't a good substitute yet. I think the only one that is gonna replace halo 2 as our LAN game will be Halo 3 (if the gameplay holds on). Only I quit halo online because of the cheaters and the insane lame ass camp persons in double team (the game I played most with a mate of mine).

So I like halo 2 over halo 1 or any other game this is the game I have played the most hours in (I believe) as well as multiplay and coop.

Only Game I played more will be Morrowind (was addicted to that game) And maybe Guildwars comes close to it.

But Halo 2 is still the best LAN game, that is what I believe....

And no Gears cant beat halo online or offline. (level designs suck hide and seek game, or waiting for someone to let see his head above the wall, is not the same as insane jumping and rushing action in halo)

Halo 2 is a fun game. One of the best online games I've played in fact.

Gears of War has a much better campaign though. Not sure about the online, as I haven't played Gear's online.

I agree, huge difference to the usual FPS with everyone running about on their own spinning round and firing wildly.

I would reccomend playing a player match with friends though over the ranked match as having people you know will communicate makes a huge difference and a good tip would be always stay in at least groups of two until you place all of the other team, at that point communicate let everyone know where they are and hatch your plans to outflank them or attempt some sort of pincer movement.

Okay so I am maybe starting to get into it a bit too much.

With Halo 2 you should also try the multiplayer, it's much better than the campaign :)

I say 'good' because it's more based on luck if there's more than 4 people playing in one map on UT.

Halo 2 matchmaking was/is the best matchmaking system over Live. Period.
That alone keeps me coming back time and time again. Now if only I could filter out the 12 year old pubes that think they're "ganster" because they're behind a mic.
When I play now, unless I'm with friends, I disable voice because there are too many little shits out there.

Well I don't think it's the "talking shit" idea. I agree that older folks talk a lot of shit, but I've never caught them singing for the entire duration of the game, or continuously yelling how good they are, or saying how everyone sucks and they are the best of the muthafuckin' world.... while I've certainly had all these pleasurable experiences from boys that sound like they don't have any hair on their balls yet.

i'm gonna have to agree the worst and most annoying players have 90% been kids prepubesent kids who arent legally old enough to buy the game. I wish there was a way to prevent underage ppl from playing gow etc...
