Hi all. I am looking for some good multiplayer games for XBL that people are still playing a lot of today. My 360 will be here soon(I ordered it online), and my main reason for getting a 360 was for the online gaming. I would just hate to get a game and no ones playing it online anymore, though i will be getting games to play in single player mode as well.
So, what's a good list of games that are still active and have a few players today? I like action games, 1st person shooters, and I would get into a MMO game. I bought EverQuest a while back for the PC, but didn't play it too much cause my PC is old and, I prefer to play games on a console and not on a PC.
I prefer games that have you work as a team online too, as opposed to working against each other all the time. Though that can be fun too ofcourse.
Also, I've seen many threads online where people will get an older game, like Gauntle, and ask for players to join them online. Does this work?
Thanks in advance.
P.S., I am looking forward to Army of Two on XBL.

I would say maybe Rainbow Six: Las Vegas, Gears of War, I hear the Lost Planet online is alright.

Call of Duty 3 online ranked matches is just fantastic. 5 different game type modes with loads of different maps. Lots to do depending upon which outfit you choose, you can be a medic and revive people for points, or be a sniper, support gunner, heavy assault....its just the BEST online game I've come across (hopefully GRAW 2 beats it)
GEARS gets boring after a few games, but I can't seem to put CoD3 down. I highly recommend it

R6V, Gears and COD3 (http://www.majornelson.com/archive/2007/02/17/xbox-live-activity-for-week-of-2-12.aspx).

R6V is good. I also think GOW gets to be a "roll" battle and then becomes stupid. Lost Planet is also good, very different type of multi-play "flow" to it.
P.S. I have not tried the new GRAW 2 multi demo but I have a feeling that it going to be pretty good.

Gears is loads of fun. I wouldn't recommend you COD 3 because I experienced a lot of disconnection problems with that game. I'm not sure whether or not the patch fixed those issues. I also heard that many many people enjoy playing Rainbow SEX:Vegas and Lost Planet

Heavy Weapon & Geometry Wars Evolved are two must XBLA downloads.
(Geometry Wars isn't multiplayer just in my opinion the best game out for 360)
Rainbow Six Vegas should be your first non-XBLA investment though.
Rainbow Six Vegas with its cover system is an amazing multiplayer experience

There is hardly ever any connection problems in CoD3 anymore. Nobody gets kicked out of a lobby, but overfilling a room can cause problems. Most people stop now at 16 - 20 players.
Rainbow 6 Vegas is a good game, except once I can put CoD3 down, I'll carry on with it.

Well I miss playing dead or alive 4 online from time to time adn when I go for a fight there are still regulars who do it.
On Phantasy star universe it is paying so I always find people there up for doing a challenge.
I bet you still find tons of people playing halo 2 as well. :P

Heavy Weapon is a great online game. COD3, GOW, Lost Planet are all great games. Those are probably the best at this time. I haven't had a chance to play RS yet but plan to.

Lost Planet sure can get quite hectic online so I agree 100%, maybe I will play it online again soon too. :)

Tabble Tennis and Fight Night Round 3 are a blast. Chromehounds is only fun multiplayer. Any hockey game keeps me amused.

Hey!
I personnaly play PGR3 at least twice a week and I'm surprised how consistent and solid the Live community for this game is.
Give it a try. It's sweet.
Cheers,
DenisDenis, getting back to the not-quite-last-version of Mad Tracks...

Well, I got my 360 and have been playing since Tuesday. I got Need for Speed Most Wanted and Gears of War. I really like NFS: MW. It's really fun. I LOVE the cop chases. My only thing is, can you play it in 2 player split-screen and still have the cop chases? That would be fun. And, I don't suppose you can play it where one player is the cop trying to pull the other over? I remember tha on Hot Pursuit and that was fun too.
I just might pick up Carbon. Even though it's all at night, I figure it will kinda be like the 2nd disc to my NFS collection. LOL. Anyone recommend it?
Also, I am loving GEARS. Took me awhile to get use to the controller, but it's really a nice game. Also very fun in 2 player splitscreen Co-Op. I love working as a team taking down the bad guys. i played it online acouple of times and got my as whipped. But, it was all in fun. Besides, I prefer the campaign mode in co-op. Be it online or split-screen. The game looks beautiful.
Anyway, THANKS for all the advice on other games to play online. i wanna check out Army of Two when it's available for demo. And, I am tempted to pick up GRAW 2 this weekend. I probably won't till I beat Gears though.
And, I might buy Gauntlet and a couple of other XBL Arcade games to mess around with online. If anyone is still playing it, let me know.

Need for Speed Carbon has the online option of players being cops chasing the racers. Its quite fun.

I just picked up Heavy Weapon as well, and yeah the 4 player action is a blast. Small Arms can be fun too.
I'm going to disagree with most on GoW though, the Warzone/Assasination/Execution games are boring, and if you're not ub3r-1337, frustrating as hell as you spend more time dead than alive. Split-screen co-op is a blast though.
There aren't many retail games I've come across that I enjoy playing online, as I'm a fairly casual gamer, and most games online get filled with *really* good players so it becomes an exercise in losing over and over and over again. Not my idea of fun. Usually the only time I'll play a game online is when I need an achievement.

Maybe it's because I'm also a pretty active PC gamer that I find most Live games lacking longevity. The 360 really needs an online title like Counter-Strike Source or Unreal Tournament that will keep on giving forever.
Right now, I can't seem to find a 360 game that will keep me busy online, even after playing through CoD3, R6: V, and GoW.

Heavy Weapon

I would say:
Gears of war if you like a "run and gun"
GRAW 2 or Splinter Cell DA if you like a tactical 3rd person
Halo 2 for 1st person shooter.
I personally liked Small Arms even though it was a little gitchy.
It all depends in what you are looking for in a game.

The only online game I keep going back to is Texas Hold'Em, once you get into it it's difficult to put it down.
