YAWDYWTSOXBLAT - Yet Another What Do You Want To See on Xbox Live Arcade Thread :P
I came across one of those "wishlist for the arcade" articles at:
http://editorials.teamxbox.com/xbox/1936/Xbox-Live-Arcade-Reader-Wishlist-Part-One/p1/
and haven't seen much discussion on this subject as of late. So what games would you like to see come to the arcade?
Before reading the above link I had never even thought of Dragon's Lair, but that would be SWEET in HD, and is perfect for the arcade (the original version I had on my PC was IIRC 15 low-density 5.25" floppies, which would be like 5MB of space), and as a plus it has wide appeal (would appeal to both adults and kids). Shinobi was one that I was seriously addicted to on my old Sega Master System, so I wouldn't mind seeing it come to the arcade (although when Double Dragon arrives, my itch to play an old skool kung-fu game might be scratched).
And speaking of the SMS, since we have Phantasy Star Universe for the 360, why not go back to the series roots and do the original Phantasy Star for the arcade? Last November when my 360 was in the shop I played a ROM version of this on my PC and I gotta say it's easily one of the best RPG's of all time (then again, I'm not an RPG fan, so that might have something to do with it).
I know there's been a backlash as of late against retro titles, but I think that has more to do with which retro titles have been chosen more than anything (I find it difficult to imagine anyone who thinks RALLY-X is fun). I for one would like to see more old skool *favourites* come to the arcade (emphasis on favourites rather than average games from the past). And get away from the mid-80's games, there's a LOT of awesome games from old consoles that came out in the 90's that should be able to fit into a XBLA-sized package (especially with the increased size restrictions). Castlevania is an excellent example of a "retro" title which still feels modern enough to be fun, and it is one of the most played arcade games on XBL right now.
