Hey,

Has there been any news as far as seeing Goldeneye 64 on XBLA??? I know there is a lot of "red tape" with this particular game, but wouldn't SOME money be better then the none that they are getting for the game presently as it collects virtual dust?

I heard it was coming to the Wii ?? Other than that I too would LOVE it on XBLA

Really? If it is, I 'Wii' be buying the Nintendo Wii. :)

The only thing I was able to find was a old article stating that Reggie wanted it on the Wii...I am hoping that something can be worked out sooner rather then later.

No. It isn't happening anywhere. There's a legal clusterfuck involved.

Microsoft owns Rare.
Activision owns the 'James Bond' video game rights
EA has the Bond license 'rented' right now.
And of course Nintendo published Goldeneye 007 in '97.

Yeah I too heard about it supposedly being in the works for comming to the Wii. Nothing about the Live Arcade though.

Nintendo as far as I know have been wanting it on the Wii for a while now... but the problem they are having is that while RARE would happily allow them to put it on there... RARE no longer own the rights to the 007 Franchise... so Nintendo are having to negotiate with the current holders of that licence so that they can release it.

I can't remember who has that licence right now off the top of my head... but thats where the problem lies as far as Goldeneye is concerned.

If Goldeneye was to be released on XBLA I could definately see it becoming the most popular arcade game on there, no probs!

I know I'd buy it!

Yeah I'd buy it for sure...even if they only put up the multiplayer part with all the different maps...with enhanced graphics...

Hehe, I have often grumbled about paying 800MS for arcade games (even though it really isn't a great deal of cash) but for Goldeneye I would happily pay double that!

Oli, 400 or 800MSP for XBLA games such as Geometry Wars or Worms is not a rip off :+
400MSP for Pac-Man and then Ms. Pac-Man is.

oli3032
April 12th, 2007, 19:26
Depends on which games you are looking at I guess. 800MS for Worms or Doom isn't bad. 400MS is very reasonable!

I wish they'd just price things properly...at least on PS3 everything is just shown in currency rather than points...

Wouldn't Goldenye with enhanced graphics be like a full 360 title though? As far as I can remember it is about 25-30 levels long. Might be a large download lol.

I would love to see this game on the Arcade. It brings back memories of coming home from junior high/high school with 3 other buddies and just play it to death. Ahhh how so little homework got done during the 2-3 years we played it hehe >:)

Really? You are honestly the first person who I have heard say that.

My three favourites on the N64 were Goldeneye, Perfect Dark and Donkey Kong 64 :) (incidently all made by the same company lol)

Lol yeah I meant it was 'a cure for PD withdrawal syndrome', in that it removes every tendency to pick up the game again :P

I've heard a lot of people say it. It's usually* the Ninotypes who just disagree for the sake of looking different and going against the crowd.

I just didn't find it all that impressive;

* I'm not a big fan of FPS games anyway, although there are a few exceptions (Alien Vs Predator 2 on the PC, for example, and Unreal Tournament in every incarnation I've played of it).

* The weapons felt uniformly like peashooters - there didn't feel like any weight or substance behind them.

* I thought the control system was awful (admittedly that may be down to the N64's pad more than anything else)

* I genuinely didn't enjoy playing it, especially deathmatches - I don't see the point in same-screen deathmatches, because you can't sneak up on folk and humiliate them!

It brings back memories many nights when my mate would come round we smoke some weed turn on the paintball mode and giggle or the proxy mines seeing how many u can fit in a room, lol class game would be cool to get like 8 + player deathmatches

I've never owned an N64, but two of my close friends did.
They both had Goldeneye, and naturally, deathmatches were the big, fun thing to do (when you're 15 and can't drive yet....).
My profile name was 'fodder', as in 'canon fodder' because I sucked royal ass at this game.

Spawn
*get shot in head and die*
Spawn
*walk into booby-trapped room*
Spawn
*golden gun to the face!*
Spawn
*blasted by a hail of bullets*

repeat that cycle over and over and over and over and that's my (not so) fond memories of this game.:'(
That being said, I would def buy this IF (big IF) it ever gets an XBLA release.

http://xboxevolved.e-mpire.com/article/No_Title/4272.html

...is that a reliable site?

Oscar
January 9th, 2008, 14:52
Sheesht.. I wish people would post a little bit of the content of the site they are possting hyperlinks to. The firewall in my office blocks 99.9% of sites with even a hint of anything game related in the title... For instance I can get into Xboxic and Playstatic but can't get Nintendic... How f**king rude is that!! :(

Talking with very reliable sources, and seeing evidence ourselves, Xbox Evolved believes that Microsoft, Rareware, MGM Studios (studio that makes the James Bond 007 movies) and Activision (holds the license for James Bond 007 titles right now) have come to an agreement to bring the Rareware developed Goldeneye 007 out to Xbox Live Arcade shortly before the new game developed by Activision is released.

The title will feature updated graphics, and of course an all-new Xbox Live multiplayer. Not only that, but we have found evidence that Rareware is planning on releasing even more of their back catalog onto Xbox Live Arcade, specifically, Perfect Dark and the original Banjo-Kazooie. Expect more on at least Goldeneye 007 later this year."

EGM said mentioned that it would happen, the two combined reports only strengthen my belief.

Are you talking about the latest issue? Because it says... in verbatim,

"Golden gouge

I know you kids love your multiplayer Halo, but before Master Chief even started the fight, a suave spy started the competitive shooter craze. Too young to remember, kiddos? Well, I'm referring to the Nintendo 64 classic Goldeneye 007. Many oldsters like me would love to play it again on Xbox Live Arcade. Microsoft apparently wanted this to happen, too, but it sadly cancelled the 007 pot even though it was cocked and ready to go. Way to shake (and stir) up controversy, Microsoft."

It's quite odd that this issue of EGM and the newspost on that site are hitting around the same time.

Rossko_UK
January 10th, 2008, 02:25
What are the chances though that this doesn't age well? Just like so many other "classics", will we not think "what a piece of retro junk?" if it were to hit?

I think I personally would unless they did some major work on everything, such as speed, graphics (duh) and of course Live.

HylianHitman
January 10th, 2008, 05:24
People are cruel to the classics.

Oscar
January 10th, 2008, 12:22
I have to say in most instances retro gaming is a big letdown and tends to stamp a big Dr Martin down on my memories of a wonderfull childhood with great games...... Unless it's something that is pure 100% gameplay like Sensible Soccer it's sure to be a disappointment. :(

_Chris_
January 10th, 2008, 14:57
I think it could be good, though i definatly see where Ross is coming from, most retro games people got all hyped about, EG Street Fighter II, Doom, came out and people got bored of VERY quickly... Its just nostalgia, and the novalty from that wears off quickly
