why are Microsoft being so greedy theses days ?
i think microsoft is awesome but these couple of months they seem to be getting wait tooooooooo greedy
first MS declined GOW maps for free
Redoctane got caught up in MS web and expecting us to pay 1500 points
for 9 songs.
( I REALLY WOULD NOT BLAME REDOCTANE FOR THESES PRICES )
And why are most of us still paying £39.99 when where not getting enough free shit.
anyway what to you all think of this ?

Microsoft's excuse is licensing, but I call bullshit on that. The most anyone ever had to pay for Guitar Hero 1 was $49.99. Someone did the math and said that if you wanted to eventually buy all GH1 songs for your xbox, that you'd be paying close to $95. $49 on the PS2, $95(ish) on the Xbox for the same tracklist?
Bull. Shit.
(Plus, don't forget that $89.99 pricetag the Xbox 360 owners had to gobble up instead of the $79.99)

Yea when i woke up this morning and saw that I could get 9 songs for 20 bucks i almost shit myself.....that is way too over priced. i mean next week are there going to be another 9 for 20 bucks?? I would pay that much for like 12 to 15 songs but at least get me into the double digits for 20 bucks

Now now, I'm sure you don't get to a 30,000 gamerscore by thinking rationally before buying things ;)
I agree that prices are getting stupid though. If the Guitar Hero 1 DLC carries on in the same way, it'll actually work out a lot cheaper to buy a second-hand PS2 and the two games...

After seeing the PS3 download service, less content at the mo - but far superior, I will seriously think twice now before downloading anything from XBLA. I'd rather pay £3.75 for a 700mb full game in HD download than an arcade 25-80mb download of some crap that constantly needs updating with content

The way I see it is they can charge what they want for all the shit under the Sun, but that doesn't mean I have to buy it. I don't have GH II, but are the extra songs really necassary?
The Arcade games come with free demos, so if you don't like, you don't buy. Simple for me.

I think Mcrosoft's greediness will hurt them in the long run and make gamers look towards Sony's PS3, which is free or Nintendo's Wii.
In a way, seeing as we are already paying a fee to play online (even though I don't think too much), you would think something as simple as a free map here and there wouldn't be such a big deal. Especially when Epic are the ones offering it, designing it, and tweaking it to make sure it works.
P.S., $20.00 for 9 songs is BULL SHIT. That's more than a CD, which is what, $11.99 for 10 - 13 songs or so.
Again, all these little fees here and there will eventually make gamers look towards Nintendo and Sony I think, especially if Sony gets a good online service that is free.
Forgive me, but I am not too familiar with the Wii or it's online services.

wow i hadnt heard that. 1500 points is ridiculous. you could get like 2 legit albums full of REAL songs for that much, or have 1/3 of a full game purchase saved, or buy a couple kickass arcade titles, or a ton of other stuff. id much rather spend 20 bucks on a dub and have myself a truly good time... har har har. wow 1500 points...insane...i cant believe they thought that would actually fly with people! on top of 90 bucks to even get the game and controller, and the whammy bar doesnt even fucking work for a lot of people...great job!

This is why we need all 3 (Sony, Nintendo and MS) to have about equal marketshare in the console business. Whoever monopolizes will rape its customers.

Forgive me, but I am not too familiar with the Wii or it's online services.
I have all three - Wii, Xbox360 & PS3....so I can make a fair comment. The Wii's online service is free - but theres no voice or video chat, the way you get friends is with really long number codes and it's a bit like email messages. The download games are original versions of old console stuff - nothing original. The downloading just takes forever (or it feels that way) - I do not like the Wii at all.
The Xbox360 & PS3 have very similar online services, both have friends list, blocked list, voice chat, video chat and messaging. The xbox360 has better profiling as well as a lot more content available for download. The PS3 online service is free, has a web-browser, and the download service which has little content, but what you do download is what you'd expect from a full game disk. Both are equally as good in different ways.
I prefer the Xbox360 over all the consoles, my PS3 is for Blu-Ray movies, PS3 Network downloads and the odd game that isn't on the 360. But if the Xbox360 stopped charging membership fee's and made its downloads 700MB+ with games that look 100% Next-gen...it would be far far superior...

I am in agreement with everyone mainly because that we do pay a premium on the systems and games and many times they are released incomplete and missing stuff...I purchased Madden 07 and was SHOCKED that there was missing defensive controls and only ONE set of home and away uniforms! Crazy Talk! We have seen time and time again MS willingness to put there customers out to dry for company profit...(actually Nintendo and Sony do it...lol) but still, its getting expensive to play on this system.
Another thing that I have noticed is that unlike before where many Xbox games gave you the option to "piggyback" one persons Xbox gold account, most not make you have everyone there own gold account. Which has made 2-4 player sessions on a single TV almost impossible.

The Castlevania 'demo' was shockingly short, though, and doesn't actually give you anywhere NEAR enough time to figure out whether you like the game or not.
Compare that to something like Heavy Weapon or Assault Heroes, which at least gave you a decent chance to make your mind up

I think the Wii's retro downloadable catalogue blows the retro XBLA catalogue out of the water, frankly.
Gunstar Heroes vs a LAGGY version of Frogger? Damn...

But they don't even do anything to the Wii titles to jazz them up at all. They do exactly as much work as I would do if I downloaded Super Mario Brothers from the internet.
So once again, Nintendo puts the same exact game out in 76 different formats with no new content and people don't bitch one bit.

lol. MS are being greedy?
Last I checked, they are a FOR PROFIT company.
No, I don't like getting raped in the bum and paying large sums of $$$ for 25 year old games that are laggy and shitty, and generally, don't hold up to the 'FUN' factor they used to provide. But the facts are that you can choose to buy or not to buy. Personally, I bougth Pac-Man for 400MSP and that was the day I decided NEVER to buy another XBLA game unless I'm 10000% certain that I'll enjoy it.
Besides, other than giving us all EVERYTHING for free, MS won't be able to please everyone. I'll agree that I feel the MSP pricing is a bit high, but thats why I only buy what I truly will enjoy.
Hell, even if they did give us every XBLA title for free they still wouldn't be able to please everyone. Bankers, accountants, management etc..... would all be friggin pissed.
I guess when you're a multi-national, multi-billion dollar a year company life can be very tough.
Wish I had that problem though......

I hate stating the obvious but Microsoft have always been greedy and that is why Bill Gates is the richest man in the world. Nothing has changed.
@mass9: Funny i did the same thing with Pac-Man i have no idea why i brought it and it taught me not to buy another XBLA game unless it was REALLY worth it, Worms and Geometry Wars are the only 2 games i can safely say i got my money out of.

Here is the catch. The $ speaks ... as many people that are out there like (some of) us .... there are 20 morons with their step dad's credit card buying everything that comes down the pipe. They have to be stopped or your financial vote will make little difference.
Episodic Gaming (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Episodic_games)is the term I hear used ... fight against it.
Put your .02 back in your pocket and let the game developers and manufacturers know by emailing and calling them(often).

I blame those rose tinted spectacles for fooling me into thinking i wanted it. :? :? :?
About Gates i read one of those rich list's about a month ago, it reckoned Billy Boy was top AGAIN for the 9Th year running. The only problem being he hasn't got as much hard cash as some but his assets run into the multi billions, but who cares he is still the worlds biggest geek and no amount of money is going to change that.
Also i wonder if the seat was Gold as well, if it was surely it must of been heated as your ass would stick to it on a cold morning. :P :P :P

Yeah Harvard drop out makes you laugh, if you have got it then you have got it and no amount of education is going to change that.
I'll be honest until the Xbox360 Microsoft got very very little of my money. I have never brought a single piece of their software. >:)

As far as I know, MS does not own RedOctane or Activision, so why would MS set a price on a song list by RedOctane and Activision?
I do agree that we are being nickeled and dimed to death, but whose fault is that. MS Marketplace is like a store where you can get everything for a dollar. You go in wanting only one item, or maybe just to have a look. Once you are in, you notice items that you do not need, but look cheap enough that you purchase then anyway. After all, they are only a dollar. When you get home, only then did you realize you spent way to much, for stuff you really do not need.
As for charging for Red vs Blue. If you are into RvB, then that is a good deal. You can see a lot of stuff on youtube for free, if you do not mind a video that looks good only as a little tiny box on your computer. Try this, watch YouTube Red Vs Blue on a projector with a 106" screen. You will find that 80MS points is a bargain for the video clarity.

No not all. I actually do own 55 retail games, and another 17 XBLA games.
But I am only purchasing 2 games a month now.
And for the record, owning a game does not increase your gamerscore....I still have to find time to play the games and unlock the achievements.

Bearing in mind a good 50/60% of achievements on games are piss easy to get and are achieved just by getting a nice way through/completing the game, and everyone finshes games...unless they are complete shits to complete, if those types of games arnt your thing, eg the only came i cant thnk of i payed for and have not completed is Quake 4, simply becuase im not all that at FPS games because i have never been into them.
