View Full Version : Mad Tracks gets 8.0 from OXM

I remember that Denis dude coming here and talking about this game. So, when I saw a review for the game in the recent OXM, I figured I'd come here.
OXM gave it an 8.0 which is a good score IMHO. Being that they've reviewed it, I'd guess it must be coming out within a month or so. They had that mini-golf game reviewed in last months and that came out two weeks ago.
I look forward to giving it a try.

That's like the highest review score I've seen for an Arcade game in a LONG time.
I know it's a hassle, but could you put the 'pros and cons' bit in your post. Don't copy the review as that's most likely some copy-right bollocks.

I think that is fair score judging by the PC version which I've played a fair bit. What will be interesting is what the Xboxic score will be. Though I'm not implying any bias. :D

+Pick-up-and-play arcade karting goodness
+Feels worth its $10 price
-No instant-rematch system for groups in multiplayer
?Are all Live Arcade games doomed to have annoying repetitive soundtracks?

sweet! That negative isn't even that bad.
Hoffer
May 3rd, 2007, 21:25
I'm wondering what the negetive even means. I read the entire review and didn't even see a mention of multiplayer.
I'm thinking it means that after a race you have to reinvite everyone or something? That would blow. I remember CoD2 being that way before they patched it.
That is what it means. I noticed that last paragraph has one sentence that does say you have to re-invite everyone after an online race.
Please Mad Tracks developers, fix that. Thanks!
There is also a little side box about the game. It comes with 15 tracks. There will be two downloadable packs in the future with 15 tracks each. The PC version of the game costs $15 for 40 tracks. So, assuming each download pack costs $5, that would make 45 tracks at $20.
That's not bad I guess. Hopefully the download packs are only 200 points each.

I have to agree with you guys. I currently have 1700 MSP. -800MSP later for Gears maps, and -800MSP the instant Mad Tracks is out. Then I'll have to buy more points for things like MT Bravo and Encore, but that's cool.
Sounds great, like we knew it should be, shame if the lobbies do work like that, but for £6 or so it's a no brainer to purchase, especialy as we weren't going to have any online multiplayer at first.

This is it for me. :-( I mainly get games to play online with friends, if I can't easily create a room/game and invite my friends in for an evening of gameplay then this game just lost me. :-(

RE: Mad Tracks - We have been working very closely and continually with Load Inc. and D3 throughout the development of the game to ensure the XBLA version of Mad Tracks is the best it can be – including adding full multiplayer gameplay support via Xbox LIVE. The game is entering the very final stages of the development/publishing process which is why we announced it with the other games. Rest assured it will be worth the wait. :)
From gamerscoreblog (http://gamerscoreblog.com/team/archive/2007/05/08/544939.aspx#comments) it's so close I can smell it :)

The trial version allows you to play the first two challenges (one mini game and one race) and you'll be able to play split screen.

I'm sure it'll be fine, but I'm hoping the trial version isn't too limited in case it puts people off - I remember the Novadrome demo had one generic arena and only a couple of weapons, and it was so, so dull.
Mind you, it also had the disadvantage of being an awful game, which this isn't ;)

Yeah, I was somewhat disappointed with Novadrome, especially considering all the respect I have toward Patrick and his excellent crew at Stainless Games.
You're pointing at one of the most tricky thing to balance in an XBLA game: trial version. Enough to be fun, just not quite enough to generate frustration, but not too much frustration, etc...
We're still learning, please tell us how Mad Tracks is doing in terms of trial (that is when you can download it).
