A source close to Bungie tells us they've had huge problems with the server that unlocks the client to those who have a copy of Crackdown and that it will be some time before the problem is rectified; it's been suggested that the client download may not be available until tomorrow.

Well, for the work that needs to be put into this (if its the coding problem) I would say about 12-24hours. But that would be taken down to roughly 8-17hrs now. Something around that.

Any other problem will probablys not talk 24hrs. What im hoping is that its up by 8am UK GMT so i can download it while im at school.

But if this beta is not out tomorrow, Microsoft may want a new helpdesk phone number, and bungie may want one too.

That was good to play with the Xboxic crew for my first game, and damn it is a lot better than i expected, i was pleased with the accuracy of the aiming (as i am a mouse/keyboard fan) and generally the all round movement is pretty good, if a little slow.

Overall i think i will be playing this plenty over the next 3 weeks.

I really dig the new layout for the buttons, the fact that "Y" is only for switching between weapons and the bumpers are used to pick up weapons is a nice change. Also I like the new start weapon (I believe its called the assault rifle), it doesn't have the greatest range but get in close enough and throw in a melee and it rocks.

I was playing until 2:30 am last night (toronto time).
I got in about 10 matches before calling it a night.

First impressions:

- You can't chuck grenades nearly as far anymore. Halo 2 it was like a rocket on his arm and the grenade would launch almost as far as you could look. Not so here.

- The sniper rifle takes longer to fire the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th shots now. You really have to make the first one count (headshot -blam!-) as the other guy may have a better chance to get out of the way now.

- The gameplay speed seems to be closer to Halo 1. MC seems to 'run' a little slower than in Halo 2. This may have been because I was extremely tired while playing. I may revise this later on.

- The actual 'action', the fighting, the melees, the arming of the bomb.....this all seems much faster. The weapons allow for more balanced play, so you seem to kill and die quicker. I am really liking the new pace of the game.

All in all, fans of Halo 2 will eat this up and love every last scrumptious morsel. I think some of the small gameplay tweaks they've made result in more balance gameplay (thus far) and actually may force players like myself to be more cautious and calculating instead of just running in guns a-blazing!!! The casual gamer still wont' play. The game is intimidating, and many people have had 2 1/2 years of a head start. FPS fans should dig this title.

The final version will be 1000x better than the three level beta we get. That being said, say good bye to the next three weeks of your life if you've got this. It is a real blast.

One last thing:
Last night, the first of the beta, there was such a good atmosphere online. I guess even all the little shit heads were in such a good mood that there was no tea bagging going on.

I'm sure that will change soon enough....:P

I did that, i was trying to get into a warthog... i pressed x (and put a bomb on it), then climbed in for about 5 seconds before BOOM! I felt pretty foolish... but the layout IS better, I love independent reload while dual wielding.

Push to talk was for TEAM CHAT only.
Proximitey chat was ever present (unless you disable it in the menu).

The BETA (from what I'm told at least) only supports TEAM CHAT (i.e. push to talk). Retail game will have both.

Actualy, it is much easier in this halo 3 push to tlak, then halo 2....just tap the d pad once, and talk and after you talk it will turn off automaticly.......ither then that....the power ups are pretty sweet...along with the new weapons, including my favorite.............THE SPIKER HANDGUN!!!!

Getting into a game is SO slow.

Matchmaking Lobby = sits there randomly flashing away saying "downloading from Xbox Live" or something random, then EVENTUALLY lets you proceed

Then the actual matchmaking, which always seems to get to about "Games Found: 20" before it actually starts hooking you up with players. And even then, it does it slowly.

Then it shows you the list of players, and says "Loading map", when it's not actually doing that at all, it's actually loading the preview image of the map that you get to veto on. Add another minute.

Then nobody vetoes anyway, even if it's shitty Snowbound, because they're just happy to have found a game.

And then the game connects - at which point, it's fine. Haven't experienced any lag yet, although have had a couple of teams totally disconnect on me (they were both losing at the time...)

OK, well I found the game entertaining to start with. No team games were played, only all vs. all. Oddball, as I've already mentioned, is a horrible game that I hate with a passion. It's annoying and not fun at all for me.

Slayer was fun for a time, killing shit is much more interesting than holding onto some skull thing. But whether it was the lack of maps or not I don't know, but I really failed to feel the "ZOMG it's Halo" feeling that you all seem to have. I really dislike multiplayer games with a jump button as well, with everyone bouncing all over the place all the time. Again, personal preference, but I like my and everyone else's feet firmly flat to the floor.

It doesn't bring anything new to the table that people suggested it would. There is nothing outlandishly different. yes you have a bubble shield and different types of grenades, but Crackdown has different types of grenades that are deployed with RB and no-one got anywhere near as excited when compared to the Halo ones for whatever reason.

The weapons are OK, but again nothing special for me. Give me a proper sniper rifle where I feel the hit rather than some plasma laser thing (CoD). I didn't get the oppurtunity to test vehicles.

I also thought that running was very slow. I kept pressing the left stick in to sprint but nothing happened, so to get to where the action was seemed a labourous task.

Overall, I had fun for a bit, but the game wasn't outstandingly brilliant. Yes it's a Beta and yes it doesn't represent the final product, I appreciate that, but it does give an indication of how the game (multiplayer) will play come release, and to be honest, I won't be picking it up as of yet. That could all change; I still need to check out some Team games and play with the vehicles, but after playing for a short while, I was less impressed than everyone else seemed to be.

I agree with the game seeming slow.. If you looks at the maps they are really really small, but it still takes a good amount of time to get across. I hope they bump up the speed, and plan to include maps that are much larger, and require the use of vehicles.

Full review of the demo in a day or so.

First, I tried all the buttons and because you have to press and hold the right button and not just press once, I was standing there like the biggest Halo n00b in the world. Another thing that made it impossible for me to get it was the sea in the background which made the prompt that showed on screen barely visible. After a few minutes of dying and coming back to the vehicle, I finally got it 8)7.

I found something yesterday too. If you get the protable grav lift on Hight Ground, and take it to the sniper tower or ontop of the bunker with the two PC's inside you can get onto that netting bit. Working on a way to get out of the map to piss people off xDD Nah not really, i just like the netting bit as its a good sniping point especially on the sniper tower netting.

Those screens are ok but that video is horribly compressed and the biggest improvement in Halo 3 are the little details; shaders, lighting, resolution, foliage etc. and those get lost with quality like this.

If you're talking about saving video: click the Back button when you're in the lobby after a game, and you can press X to save a video. You can then view videos from the main menu, or you can browse other people's File Shares through their profile in the Guide menu. Bit flaky at the moment though, it keeps telling me that nobody has a video even when I know they do.

In the final version, you'll be able to invite people into your own private "Theater" to allow them to watch videos with you 8) As I think Jay accidentally found out last night when he stumbled into mine when I was halfway through sending some voice messages

That's right. Be it ranked or unranked, you HAVE to press one of the four buttons on the D-pad to talk.

You dont have to keep it pressed though, a slight tap enables voice and it quits transmitting once you stop talking. Hence the bleep when you push it and the bleep when you shut up in your headset.

my connection has been pretty flakey since I went wireless with the 360. Every now and then it won't let me connect to others or let them connect to me.

Yeah I worked out a few things this morning, so far out of all my games, theres only been one that irritated me....

It's where one person feels they are the voice of the whole team and tries dictating everyone in positions. - That is just taking it way too seriously!! It was during a match I played with Mass9... not sure who the dictator was, but it was late and he was just way too over excited...

@Jay; was that team match you're referring to one that I was in? Because that wasn't too serious and I like to have one person handing out directions so it's not that everyone's all over the place.

I think this was one of the games you were in with me and a couple of my real life buddies (you guys only exist on the internet......in my mind at least :P ). One guy in particular is like that in Halo. He is a good guy, just really want to win every match.

As for barking out orders, thats only needed for objective based games. Slayer you should just stick together and call out the other guy's positions.

No. It was only me and mass9 from xboxic. I think it was someone from Mass's friends list perhaps. If I had meant you - I'd have said Nino was being a bossy dictator. This guy was very strong american accent and wanted to win EVERY match!!!

First Person war type shooters are my favourite type of game and I don't play them to win or to beat anyones score. I just like walking around finding someone to kill whether be one person or a few. It's the same with Tigerwoods golf funny enough, I just like hitting the ball...however long it takes to get in the hole.

If you like doing that, you probably shouldn't be doing ranked matches, that's if you were. That's what the new social matches and custom matchs are for. Remember, because Halo is so popular, people want to be good at it and win, so some do take it very serious indeed.

Canadian accent JAY, but yes, he did want to win every match.
Myself and the other two guys in the room have played LOADS of Halo 2 together, and I must admit, I want to win every match as well. Give yourself some time to get better and you'll feel the same.

Right now, its silly to be concerned with 'rank' and 'wins' because after the three weeks are up, they are getting erased.8)7


ASIDE: I managed to get one of my saved fils in my SHARED folder. It was the VIP match I played with Nino, UK JAY and nofear360. We won. I think this feature is fantastic, and once we can edit our films (final build, hopefully) I'll be very excited._o_

I've taken to this game, it's my new CoD3 replacement so once I've had it a few weeks I'll be fine. Those who've lept over from Halo2 I guess are just carrying on where it left off at the same standard.

I think it's because it so limited in time that everyone is making the most of it, and i have played with some of the xboxic crew on Gears, but not much as no one was ever playing it the same time i wanted to.

Lets hope this is sign of the things ahead, as i enjoy playing with you guys rather than a random bunch, just makes it more enjoyable winning (or getting beat as is mostly happening) against you lot.
