About the graphics.

H3Beta only supports Enhanced Definition (As Bungie pre-warned a while before the beta on Bungie.net) and as in the artical Hylian posted says, these maps we are playing now may not even have any of the things were familiar with in the retail. (Plus the graphics are still getting polished up. I think Bungie is concentrating on Single Player atm.)

Haha, you missed an awesome game tonight!

HylianHitman was winning King of the Hill by a country mile. He had something like 70 odd points, Nino had around 38 odd and I had roughly 36.

Anyway, Nino and I managed to catch up, and we both overtook HH. Nino had 98 Points, I had 89. He then got 1 more point taking him to 99 and I was still 89. The Hill changed places and I was the only one around, and I stole the victory from Nino right at the death. A proud day!

This was so good, I was only inches away from the Hill before you got to a 100 points too. :D. I'll get it off of Hylian's share.

Concerning the graphics debate, I'm glad we don't have much of a graphics debate here at the moment. I think the Beta looks great, it looks really clean and the image quality is consistent across all 3 of the maps and all of the weapons etc. I don't want to start a Gears vs Halo debate but Gears definitely has some ugly spots in terms of textures and gets its graphical praise mostly from its awesome player models. Halo 3 looks clean and neat all across the board and that's the way it should be, at least for multiplayer that is. I think we'll see some graphical tweaks once the retail game hits, seeing as how the framerate is rocksolid even in a highly chaotic Rockets match.

But anyway, I'll be playing again late tonight (gonna have dinner with my GF first). I might play some before that this afternoon, depends on who's playing. \o/

And about gears.
I don't like that game. I dont really like 3rd person shooters tbh.
And I agree Halo has all round smooth, nice textured graphics with a good framerate.
Gears has good player models but most of the textures on the game arnt that good, theyre either grainy or shiny. Which i think makes it look less realistic?

Plus, ill say again. The public beta is only Enhanced Def. because thats all theyve finished at the moment (according to what Bungie said a while ago) and there is quite a difference regarding ED and HD resolutions (480p = ED, 720p< = HD)

Halo 2 is still a very good game.

Counter Strike has been out since the 90's and I still play that.

Final Fantasy VII has been out since the 90's and plenty of people still regard that as the best RPG.

Sonic The Hedgehog has been out since the 80's, same with Mario but people still play the old ones thinking theyre better.

New isnt always better. Halo 3, yes, it is. But that doesnt mean Halo 2 is shit.

Halo 2 is better than the Halo 3 beta, without a doubt. It has all the gametypes i've played so many times and wish I could select on the Halo 3 beta just to play. It has private parties instead of having to play rumble training (allthought Nino doesnt mind xD) and it has custom game types for private parties like Zombie.

Halo 2 is still a very very good game. And until Halo 3 hits the shelves its still the best Halo in my opinion.

I've highlighted that above because you come across very tit for tat. Not in what I say, but just in general with other threads. As with most things, games, clothes, music...everyone likes different things. Halo2 to me is shit because I've played Halo3 first...some old games are still played and loved...regardless of graphical appearance - some people still love Pacman !

When I say something is shit...it's not a global statement that regardless of what anyone else says...everyone else must think it's shit too...

You seem ok so long as someone agrees with you, and then when they dont - you try to make them agree with you... and thats my opinion

You can tweak stuff like Anti Aliasing, Antastrophic Filtering, HDR, Draw Distance, lighting without putting too much effort into it.

I think 360 games are 1080i only, unless they've put 1080p in newer ones? But Im not 100% sure...but almost.
The public beta is also deffo not 420p (not quite sure if you're saying it was) BUT it's not as crap as 420p.
Im playing with HD VGA settings so it's more native than I's and P's anyhow.

Ofcourse your a better shot in H3. I am too. Its a more balanced game with better control etc.

And I think it may be in 480p... Not sure :/
Still, 480p isnt what im running anyway.

And 360 has ran with 1080p for a while, and NBA Street Homecourt was the first 1080p game for it I think? Not sure what other ones there is though.

I agree with both those points and probably always will, but that doesn't mean that I don't have fun at times. Even some of the poorer games on the 360 have highlights, and whilst Halo isn't outright shit, I still stand by my opinion that the shooter is average and is overrated.

Its amazing how many idiots are in the beta that are only interested in talking and not actually playing.

In CTF a minute ago one guy refused to get on my mongoose even though he was carrying the flag, I just rode alongside him while he navigated the map.

No, now I understand why Nino was on the verge of slicing his wrists with the farwell of rumble training. There are just plain RETARDS playing in RANKED team matches. BTBattle and Team Skirmish are just PLAGUED with fuckin brain-dead-kicked-in-the-head-by-a-mule-when-they-were-12 IDIOTS!!!

I played around 10games today before I went to sleep. One BTBattle had two people (1/3 of my team) not even playing. I kept seeing them get sniped cuz they're standing still. I mean Come on, If you know you ain't going to play, or might be distracted: DO THAT SHIT IN TRAINING! Monday, I had dropped a TripMine in a Neut. Assault and I had the bomb and was in the 'hog and the retard driver just ran right into the trip mine, like he was aiming for it... Triple betrayal and suicide8)7

I think people are just getting bored with the Beta and fuckin people over for jollies, or because they really were kicked in the head.

On One CTF BTB on Valhalla This guy kept insisting on driving the warthog and was just horrible at it, halfway through the game he jumped into the hog... again, so I smacked him told him he was not allowed to drive it anymore and Surprisingly he jumped out. that shocked the hell outta me. Well for now, I ain't gonna play anymore team battles unless I am teamed up with some of you guys, who actually care about playing the game!

I mean we have less than two weeks now, and I want to get the most possible amount of enjoyment outta it!

Who wants to help get a custom game going? 1UP has a HowTo (http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3159944), for those wondering how you do it.

Of course, the easiest way to get into a custom game would to be invited into one by friends, but if you're a lonely fellow, here's the instructions:

* First, get six to eight other players in a game with you in the pre-matchmaking phase.
* After you've assembled this group, have a separate player matchmaking by themselves send the party leader an invite.
* The party leader needs to bring the party to the new game, but one person will get kicked.
* The person who was booted will now send invites to those who weren't booted -- it is possible you'll have to repeat these first couple of steps because you need two people in the custom game lobby.
* Now you should have a party of two and a party of six in two separate lobbies -- the party of six invites the party of two into their game.
* Someone in the party of two should lag out into a custom game that actually works.

Yeah, it sounds like a lot of hard work, but just check out some of the cool stuff you can do once you've got it figured out!

Don't take too much pride in this fact, seeing as your first post, the seed for this thread, was full of inaccurate information you came off semi-retarded, but I guess all that toxic waste you are exposed to in Jersey might have something to do with it, or maybe the lead paint chips you ate8)7

Let's hit some customs up in about 2-3 hours, we need a good deal of people, 7, to pull it off, but it's hella fun!

I found another workaround to the "gather 800 people" trick that I encountered yesterday. If you join someone else's custom game, play one game, and at the end of the game in the post-carnage lobby, hit "B" to leave the party and you should be in a custom lobby by yourself.

I only tried this once so I am not sure if it consistently works.

OMFG I cannot begin to tell ya'll how pissed off I am with people leaving half way through matches - particuarly in ranked i find. Usually if the match isn't going our way fuckers just drop out and leave us to take a pounding.

There really should be some harsh punishment for pulling this kinda shit, like an hour ban or something....

Yeah I felt that way on CoD3 when it first came out... all it does it drop their rank points which is pointless...

this beta is gettin me really wound up, playing territories with guys who stay at the base trying to protect that while the other 4 territories are getting owned. Fools more interested in running round madly than helping their team in ctf etc...
I've been playing the beta since the crackdown issue was fixed and every night my gf would stare at me oddly while i screamed at at members of my team to get off their arse and do something - yesterday I redeemed a 48 hour trial code for her so she could play the ranked beta matches with me....since then she's developed a hell of a fiilthy mouth......:p

But, I also hate it when people leave. I do however understand sometimes when the Halo 3 lobby system decides to short your team by one. It feels almost pointless to play. You've got blue team who have been playing nonstop for 6 hours straight together with their miniclan, and you're just lonely joe who wants to get a couple games in before bed.

It gets annoying.

Hey guys, a Dutch gamesshow went to Seattle to play Halo 3 and they have footage of a whole bunch of new Halo 3 maps, including Zanzibar.

The reason Halo is fun is because it is more of a run and gun. In other words lots of fast paced action. While I enjoy strategy games I also have trouble with them. I have trouble having the patience to sit behind a rock and wait for someone to come by lol. Then I end up running around looking for someone and getting capped in the head. :O
Yeah but there are tons of other "run and gun" games out there, Shadowrun is quite like that, all Quake games, to be honest most FPS games are run and gun, with the exception of some slower, more tactical based games.

Call of Juarez will be fantastic...can't wait...
IGN gave it a 7.5 but don't let it fool you. Their closing comments are very positive:

The atmosphere is excellent, thanks to a great cinematic score and a great variety of gameplay including horses, dueling, stealth and flat-out action. Halo is not the game to end all games. It's above average in terms of visuals, story and most importantly, the gameplay is better than anything else out there. The weapons are most balanced this time (seemingly), and the small details in the textures, as well as the vast open environments all create an immersive atmosphere, condusive to great gaming. Also, the 5.1 surround creates the nicest sounding game I've ever heard. So, we have graphics, gameplay, sound and story all being far above the average. Add to that a great multiplayer setup, with plenty of game variants, ranked, social and customs available, plus, if Halo 2 is any inidication, many many many different maps to play on, and you should start to see why its so popular.

More than anything, this game is FUN. At least once a game you'll see/do something that is either hillarious, really dumb, funny and/or shows tremendous skill. Its a blast to play. Bottom line.

One man's humble opinion on why Halo is a great game.

NOTE: Super Mario Bros. 3 was and always will be, the pinnacle of gaming goodness. No game previous or since has come close. Yes, I am being serious.

Last night I reached the rank of Leuitenant (sp?!?!).
I may play a few more games some time tommorow, but then the beta is over for me. I'll be in montreal this weekend, watching formula 1 cars rip around the track.
Alas, three weeks is almost over. It was fun while it was around, but I guess I can have my life back now. Thanks Bungie. The little sneak peak has been awesome. I really hope they pull some good data from the past three weeks and use it to improve the already well done matchmaking/networking system in place.

Its been a blast to play with some of you guys. Can't wait for the final version, and to find other games we can play together.

I like how the dead body responds to stuff like explosions. I like the way the ragdoll physics have improved. Like in the barrel roll video, the author was killed by a grenade and flew into a pipe. In Halo 2 he would probably have been waving his arms around until he landed.

ASIDE:
Not sure if any stores in the UK have them yet, but some (most) EB Games stores in Canada have replicas of the Spartan helmet in their window displays. Its actually quite a bit bigger than I expected.
