Thats right, i belive this game is gonna suck. My reason:because it is an rts.....the game be the same if it is an rts.......however, it might show some different forms of shooter gameplay.but i wudnt make any reservations on this game until i get some screen shots......or video or something. Unlike you, I think this game is gonna be pretty sweet. I find the aspect of commanding your troops by yelling into the mic very promising :).

Though theres the problems of police knocking on your door cause people have called them thinking things are going on in your house when anyone who passes the house can hear nothing but "MOVE YOU FUCKING BASTARDS!! GO!!! NOW!!! WHY WONT YOU DO AS I SAY?! IM GOING TO FUCKING DESTROY YOU!!!" when the voice recognition doesnt work properly:P

lol That wouldn't be an issue for me, if the game was released soon. But due to moving to a dorm in a few months, it certainly might prove problematic :P.

You better keep your console locked down nofear, dorms can be harsh...(now you see 360... now you dont)

I'd have to change his nick to nofear then!

Oh and ontopic: I'm kinda sold on Endwar actually myself, and hope it'll rekindle my lost interest in the RTS genre by finally modernizing it as it should've been done long ago.

If it's going to be just another 'amass the troops and drop 'm on the other side' game I'm out tho.

:'(

Thank God Slovenians have never heard of the word "Xbox" lol. It's all Playstation there.

On topic: I just read IGN's interview with EndWar creative director and learnt that the singleplayer campaign will play similarly to Rome: Total War. It probably won't be as sophisticated.

When I read the microphone feature I though it would be really promising as there certainly are not other 360 games that do it, that I am aware of.

Depends on what I see but what I know makes it promising and different from having to use a controller all the time.

That's the thing I like the most about it too. Here's hope it will be better executed than in SOCOM games.

While voice recognition has advanced significantly over the past 10 years I doubt that this feature is actually going to work the way everybody hopes it will. Recognizing words is one thing, putting them into the right context is an entirely diffrent matter and a problem which is beeing constantly researched since over a decade already: language parsing

And that is exactly why I believe that the voice stuff will be nothing more than a gimmick. The required AI abilities for parsing spoken language for precise commands and executing them simply do not exist anywhere today (or anytime soon for that matter). Simple instructions, yes. But the complex instructions you'd need to command troops in a battlefield ? No way.

I found it quite interesting to note that they decided not to show any ingame footage at ubidays and instead showed prerendered scenes created with ingame models. Considering the amount of work those scenes required that leaves the doors wide open for a lot of speculations.

Still, I think Endwar has a lot of potential and promising design ideas ... if they do it right.

Ubi may want to be 'different' and 'cool' with their voice-recognizing armies, but it won't work. Try as they might, and probably are, AI armies will not pick up on orders as easily as a human army will.

Little question. Do you like RTS games in general? What did you think of Red Alert or Command & Conquer? If your answer is 'they're shit' to both games then your opinion on it doesn't really matter ;) No offense.

I love me a good RTS every now and then, and this one is voice controlled and should be something new.. I want the opinion of someone who likes RTS games.. That's what counts for me ;)

Yes, i'm tempted haha.. Everyone on that link is saying good things about it so maybe it's going to be good, if you like RTS ofcourse..
I really want to give it a try first though, so looked on the net to find a beta key.. with no success ;(
I'll wait till the demo comes out. Although it's a cool concept, the lack of bases and building them will make it go old quickly i think..

PS: yes, i'm a real armchair general ;) love to control them from above and shouting at them would make it so much more cooler :)

No I'm pretty sure you're talking about the VIP demo that was being talked about ages ago. I'll look for a link.

Ah, I was "involved" in the private beta held in June. I see they are still calling this one a beta, but an "open beta".

Link. (http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/903/903052p1.html)

Sooo, tried the demo the other night.. I'm impressed by how good the voice recognition is in the game. Handles really great and is an excellent addition to any RTS game.. but...... yes, there's always a but(t) :+
The game itself isn't that great. It looks great for a RTS but the view is lacking some dept. I couldn't get a clear view of what was going on. And what's up with the overview map? You can't see which soldiers are yours and who's the enemy.. very weird.

Maybe something for the bargain bin... who knows..

Yes it is.. Halo wars is also RTS. But it's more like command & Conquer than EndWar.. And no voice control of course. The camera is a bit more from the top but the concept of the game stays the same. Playing the armchair general :D

End war is going to be amazing Ive played the demo and im damn impressed i think it might be a RTS that could pull of being on a console rather then a P.C with the voice control feature easing the pressure off the control system its nice and effective.
i haven't had any trouble with it recognizing my voice even when i cock up and end up saying something like unit 3 move to foxulu.
The multi player looks like a winner to finally be able to conquer something and keep it to help the grand scheme of things keep going should be a nice touch, altho im gonna be pissed to take some territory that i fought hard for to go off line and get some dick come take it back.
Not having bases or building them is a good thing in my opinion i played C&C 3 and u get these guys that attack plan is to build some base that spreads across a map like a plague and destroy you using defense weapons, and we finally got a game on the RTS that isnt the highest number wins (apart from any of the total wars games which i highly recommend) you got to be smart with which unit fights what rather then building hordes and hordes of crappy tanks that are cheap and just sending wave after wave in to grind down the enemy.
which i know Halo wars is going to be like altho i pray it isnt going to be like that
I just think if you go at this game with a open minded view about RTS games this could be the best one on the console to date. its sitting in my top 5 games this winter.

I played the private beta in June. The game wasn't good, at all, in my opinion. Normal beta problems aside, the unit balance is ridiculously off-kilter. It's supposed to be a rock-paper scissors system, but in 4 of the 6 games I played, all the other side ever did was spam helicopters. Normally you can take out a unit of helicopters with transports. But when it's one unit of transports vs 6 units of helicopters, there's no winning. This then forces players to spam transports, and just all around ruins the spirit of the game. There's no point in specializing other than transports and helicopters because anything else is moot. If the unit balance has changed, then fair enough, but I doubt it.

As for winning territories, the game calculates the total number of wins for your side in an area against the wins for the enemy, and then whichever side has the most at the end of the day takes the territory. So you don't have much to worry about, because how good you are at the game is basically pointless when the entire rest of your faction sucks ass.

i didn't have that problem i have probably played the demo about 8 or 9 times and you do come across the guy that just sent waves of choppers and transports but there easily dealt with.
Of course 1 v 6 your not going to win id be a bit pissed if you did, you can do a good bit of damage to them before its destroyed, having a nice mix of troops and vehicles will always give you the upper hand i found but maybe it just comes down to how you play it.

i didn't know that about the multiplayer i just watch a video a ran to my pc
so that was my bad.

to me it feels like a modern day Rome total war with a few new things which is always going to be impressive, and id put money on that for a actual RTS game on consoles this one takes the home the gold so far, even with halo wars soon to be released.

I actually like it. Turned out to be better than expected which is probably because they kept the core mechnics very simple (simple always makes for the best games imho). Beeing able to use 2 control schemes at the same it is awesome because it allows you to be MUCH more efficient. There is no more zipping the camera around to micromanage offscreen units etc. You can easily manage your artillery and gunships offscreen while micromanaging engineers. It's brilliant actually. The only flaw in my opinion is having to press RT (or any button really) to issue voice commands. It should be voice activated and only require you to press a button to chat.

But other than that it's quite nice actually. I just can't decide which version to keep (have 360 and ps3 version right now).

well i got the game gave it a spin and........ i might have bigged it up a bit to much.
Its a very good game with great ideas and a nice blend of control systems.
but after a couple online games it became very repetitive just doing the same thing
although you could say that about gears or cod5 and most other online games but it never changes you do what you always do and so do they and you meet in the middle and pound the shit out of each other, but not even the way you start is different i found my self using the same tatics as i always used in all my other games and they pretty much did the same thing.
Even so its still damn good i just don't think i could do a 5 hour session on it like i used to for Rome total war.
End war for me is gonna be the same as left for dead very good but wont hold my attention for long periods of time
