As most of you know Xboxic is a relatively young site, started only in December 2005. Having experienced some huge growth since then (thanks all O+ ) it became clear quickly that the existing frontpage template, a modified blog template, did not suffice for what the site was doing. Some of the worst problems for users:
- Forum and Wiki relatively invisible.
- Important information not readily apparent.
- Reviews/features drop out of visibility way too fast.
- Way too much unused space.
- Comments get messy quick.
- Too much blog style, too little news site.
So I set out to create a new frontpage for our beloved site. After some experimentation I came up with a design that I have been converting to XHTML during the last week. I'm happy with it, the rest of the crew is happy with it. So, we're actually almost ready to release it :)
Thing is, we want to make sure first that the template has no problems before we release it for every user. So this is where our so-far relatively small "incrowd" of forum regulars (that's you if you're reading this ;) ) steps in ;) Try the site out on our development server (URL removed), try to break it, and check if it all works and whether you like how things work. If you find anything, please provide feedback in this topic (http://forum.xboxic.com/showthread.php?t=169) so we can fix it before going live.
Some mental notes: the development server uses a backup dated March 22nd. For this reason links to recent Wiki and Forum updates will be awfully wrong. It also allows you to spam whatever you want to test the nested comments out and everything ;) Also, the banner at the top of the screen isn't visible yet, and since it is the development server don't be too surprised if you get huge errors while viewing a page: that means I'm fubarring the page. If it still gives errors 5 minutes later, report it :P
So, have fun everyone trying to break it, and let us know what you think!
