Afternoon all. I dunno about anyone else but after Forza 2 and Flatout 2 UC the other driving game I was looking forward to (a lot) was Colin McCrae Dirt.
However, reading reviews, as much as the single player mode sounds and scores really well it appears multiplayer may be a real disappointment.

Apparently when you take it online you compete in what are effectively 'time trials' rally or hill climb. According to reviews on www.metacritic.com you never see another car during a race online.

That to me sucks major moosecock and will definately influence my purchase decision.

Just wondered what other peoples thoughts were or if they even cared......??

major moosecock...mmmmm:9~

seriously though, if you can't see other players online then it's not worth buying.

I agree totally, especially when the damage model is a good as it is in Dirt, you need other cars to make it fun. Its essentially just leaderboards and thats shit.

Flatout UC will be my replacement for this and may get Dirt when it goes cheap used etc, I think its a major mistake from Codemasters and WILL influence overall sales.

No doubt about it.

I agree. I just couldn't ever imagine going online to race and seeing no one? - Sounds like this could potentially be the worst racing style game out there.

That's the multiplayer part. According to all the reviews currently out there , singleplayer career will be great.

Im only tempted by it because I really want Sega Rally...and this is close as it gets

I don't doubt that the single player mode will be awesome, but for me personally, racing/driving games are mainly about taking the experience online with other live users. Imagine PGR3 without its excellent online side....boring....its why Rallisport 2 was so good on the original xbox, mashing up other drivers and watching their fuckups was part of the whole experience. The Dirt m'player element (if it is as reported) is dull as ditchwater and might as well be a computer generated leaderboard that you compete for better times against.

Just my opinion tho!!

Since I do not play multiplayer all that much, this is not a problem for me. What I would hate is if winning a 100 player hill climb is made into an acheivements. I hate it when games have online achievments. Not everyone has online access.

Those people with no online access really miss out...they should be culled!
maybe thats a new thread...who culled a last gen...

I will be stickin with motorstorm then. PS jay: in some areas broadband is not available or too expensive(100 euros a month really effects the wallet.)

I'll get it anyways- I was never really a fan of online racing games, I got no thrill from them.

That's the reason why I never got into PGR 3's online component. It just didn't click :(. Hopefully, Forza 2 will be different.

In the other Colin McCrae games when it was played multiplayer split screen there were some modes where you would just see an outline of there car thatway when racing time trial you couldn't mess each other up, but in rally cross I think you could see each other and actually race. I don't know if it's been changed.

It's been changed then because you can't see your opponents at all. The only thing that reminds you that you're playing online is that leaderboard on the right.

After starting this thread and going back to play the demo again I have kind of come around to buying this. I think the single player should carry it......kinda helped that it cost £29.99 on www.sendit.com ............lol
