Although it was ridiculously funny,complete bollocks and a classic "yeah right" moment, I think it was a homage to Orson Wells' War of the Worlds where the aliens get killed by a 'virus' also. A bacteria virus, but nontheless a virus :)

you never can really enjoy the 4th if you have to work the 5th
but it is always fun to sit out on the porch watching your neighbors go hog wild lighting fireworks while a haze of smoke and the smell of gunpowder fills the air.
