World In Conflict Public Beta

Yep, the World in Conflict public beta starts today....

They said you'd be able to download it from bittorrent starting on the 9th, then on the 9th they said the 10th, and yesterday they said today. So I'm downloading it now. VEEEEEERRRRRRRRYYYYYY SLOWLY. I freakin hate bittorrent. I started the DL at about 8:40am EST, now it's 11:46am, and it's only at 8%. Why is bittorrent so slow? I get around 8kbps on 3mpbs cable. Sometimes it shoots up to 60kbps for a minute then right back down. I wish they'd host it from a number of servers so you could DL it faster. Man, bittorrent sucks. Oh well, can't wait to play this! Very Happy

I really enjoyed the approach they took for this game- it's a strategy game, yet it's lightning fast and completely unique, and a great step for the genre.

I had a beta account for World in Conflict but i wouldn't go as far as to call this game 'completely unique'. The only difference between this game and other strategy games is that the resource system is a little different. It reminds me a lot of Company of Heroes, a game I was addicted to for a couple of weeks.

I played the beta for a bit too but to be perfectly honest ..... I don't get what all the fuzz is about, really. It seemed fairly boring and annoying since you WILL lose your units over and over and over again and HAVE to wait for your points to roll back in which basically puts you out of the action for a few minutes. Of course you can always start with 1 or 2 unites and then order more later but the way that game is played that's just more score for the other side.

I still have high hopes for the single player campaign tho. But WiC multiplayer ? Nah, thanks. Not worth it unless you play with VERY well organized and disciplined folks on your team AND on the other team.

I am enjoying Mythos and Tabula Rasa closed betas way more than WiC and to add to my neverending period of joy and happyness I picked up my ps3 today. Damn that thing gets hot, doesn't it ? Will work very well as a heater with gaming and hd movie playback in the lonely winter months ^^
