[offtopic] Sorry about just dissapearing from my 360 while hosting a game on Darkness last night, girlfriend called, wasnt in a good mood, couldnt just hang up:P
no problem mate i hope things are good with ya girl, the Lag on the Darkness Was Terrible But i still managed to win somehow, let me know what bioshock is like

The lag is fucking horrible, i was even getting it hosting, its a pity too cause without lag the multiplayer has the potential to be really good IMO, but there should be a patch soon fixing the problems anyway, that will please me. And yeah stuff with my girlfriend is fine, she was just a bit upset, crying a bit, few problems, did my best to help:P

Turn the background downloads or whatever it is on, so if youre downloading and turn your 360 off it will continue to download on low power mode, then you'll have it (hopefully, mines been on 17% for about 10 minutes now) by the time you get home:)

At 4am I could d/l this @2mb/s. From what I read that didn't last for too long, tho. At any rate, this was by far the fastet xblm download for me ever. Funny enough, PSN Store is always this fast for me. I'm getting spoiled :P

The PSN Store is always very fast, regardless of the time of day for me, which is why it's so disappointing that XBL takes forever unless it's night time!

No wonder it was fast for me. I'm an idiot and signed in my german account and downloaded the german demo which is 350 megs smaller than the international demo. From what I can tell blood is missing for sure, no idea what else considering the big diffrence in size. Downloading again from my UK account :(
Good thing I bought the worthy PSN games last night. At least I am gonna have something to do while I join you all in the suffering :)
From the looks of the german demo I'd give a serious warning to ppl who get motion sickness from some games. I started feeling it before I even entered the lighthouse. By the time I killed the 3rd splicer I stopped and decided to try again after having eaten something (that does seem to lighten the effect somewhat).

Just played the demo and I have to say, Damn.. Best looking game so far and the atmosphere is amazing.. Only one little thing I missed and that's your own shadow.. 8)7 I noticed it when I was standing next to the pram. It was giving a huge shadow on the wall but mine was absent :P
Too bad you don't see your own legs also, like in riddick. Would make this game even more amazing.
I may be getting this after all \o/

I downloaded the demo last night. The whole thing took about 15 minutes. But I opted to wait till this morning to play, as I needed sleep. This morning I turned on my console and tried the demo. My reaction was screw Vista, this is the real WOW. The game atmosphere reminded me of Condemned. The graphics in my opinion surpass Gears. I cannot wait for the full game.

I'm likeing all the praise I'm hearing about this game.
Single player only may not be such a bad thing after all. I think I've (we've?) all been conditioned for the past 5 years or so that multi-plyr was a neccesity in FPS titles. Maybe its not after all. We'll see, as I'll be d/l this as soon as I'm home from work.

Apparently there is no more "gold members only" since quite a while already _o_
Btw, even this afternoon getting the international demo with my UK account was fairly "fast" considering xbla standards with such highly anticipated demos. Took an hour to get 1.35gb.
The diffrence between the german and international demos seems to be the lack of blood (read: absence of it) and the lack of the 2 videos (title screen after timeout and end of demo). I didn't check if the german version has those videos but considering the difference in size and the content of the videos it's pretty safe to assume it doesn't.

...BAH I'm growing steadily sick of M$ and their "f*ck consumers in the ass" approach to the 360(and yes in general). I have had dealings with customer support, I have been paying premium prices, I have been noticing the 360 weaknesses and I'm not the only one, and I have noticed that M$ are doing sweet F.A to address these concerns(OK the 3RL warranty update is good but almost too little too late.)
Add to that the rampant cheating on XBL that goes as far I can see unchallenged, the continued support of the Core skew despite being obsolete for a year, An over zealous, creatively hampering and ineffective game finishing/release(i forget the correct term) process, etc(in place of "I could go on". Sorry if this bums anyone out, not my intention. Just saying what I see. Anyone have a equally realistic, more positive view of XBOX's future they can share?...
Sorry to hear you are having such a hard time. I cannot say anything negative about MS and service provided for I have not have any problems so far, save for 1 RoD problem that was corrected promptly by MS. Sure there has been hardware problems, there always are, and us "early adopters" are always the "beta testers" that find this stuff out. At least MS did extend coverage and has taken steps to correct those problems. In contrast, I have had my new Sony Ericsson cell phone replaced twice already.
Xbox Live is another story. I had been playing multiplayer PC games since the early 90s and I can tell you that never has life been simpler than with the Xbox 360. It is not perfect, but if you ever remembered playing games via IPX/SPX, you would be so gratefull for XBL. I am not the only one. My group contains many former PC gamers, all net admin and IT specialist that just love the simplicity of XBL. Speed has always been fine, downloads consistently fast. Maybe it is because I am in Canada. Not sure.
Sometimes I do not care about the fact that US has a vastly superior marketplace. It is hard to comprehend that I cannot get South Park on the Marketplace, but I can walk into any video store or retail store and purchase South Park. But that is a legal thing that goes way deeper than I care to understand.
I hope that when your download is complete, and you get to play the awesome game that is Bioshock, you will have time to calm down a bit, and see that not everything is so negative about the Xbox 360.
Cheers :)

OK back on topic now guys...
The demo looks visually stunning, but as Trig said it does wear off. I found it kind of enjoyable, although I'm not a massive fan of the horror genre. I probably won't buy the game, but the demo is nice (although shorter than I thought).

I was already going to buy the game, but the demo did sell it to a few of my club members that did not have any plans on purchasing the game at this time.
The demo is just a short part of the game (I hope), but you can easily spend a hour playing it, and get killed like I did. I am not sure what people expect from a demo, but I found this a fair amount of gameplay to tell me if I would like the game or not. There was one thing I did not like about the demo and that was the pipe dream mini game to reprogram the attack bots. Anyone else found that just wrong?

August 14th, 2007, 07:42
Wow. Just wow.
I was unsure of this game at first, what with so many other awesome games coming out in the near future. However, this demo TOTALLY sold me on this game. Perhaps not right at release, but I will def purchase this at some future date.
Its creepy, the graphics are among, if not the best I've yet seen. The sound is awesome too. It really looks solid, but not for the feint of heart. Those little girls.....spooky man.
and yes, playing "The Incredible Machine" to 'hack' a bot was a bit out of place. My one and only complaint after my first 30 min with it.

Best bits:
+Entering Rapture.
+Graphics.
+Water.
+Atmosphere (Play in a dark room with sound cranked up to 11.)
+Weird things the enemies do/say.
+Big Daddy.
+Looking out the windows into the sea.
+Good controls.
Bad Bits:
-Water doesn't actually fill a room, just dissapears.
-Blood effects.
Thats pretty much it.

August 14th, 2007, 15:28
Hmmm I just played through the demo, and its good but the words shooter or F.P.S shouldn't be used to describe it cos its not really a shooter per se, for hardcore shooter fans its too slow and meandering, the enemies are too few and far between and there isn't enough firepower(in the demo at least) to really get your motor running. If I had to describe it the term First Person Adventure(with shooter elements) would come closer than FPS does but it still wouldn't be entirely accurate. So if you're expecting a full on shooter experience you're gonna be disappointed(Like I was) in this respect, and what you actually get is something deeper than any classic FPS. If you're willing to stick with it you'll(by the looks of it) get a rich, new gaming experience. Another niggle is object interaction is a rather shallow for instance when I found a pack of smokes I got the option to smoke em but it didn't do anything cool like an outer body cut scene of the hero enjoying a nicotine hit. Or when in the toilets instead of just flushing the chain as the result of "Using" it, It could of had another cut scene of him closing the cubicle door and enjoying a call of nature with the sounds painting the picture instead of going down the Postal 2 route. These are only my opinions based on 20 minute walk through and I probably missed a tonne of stuff but my overall feeling is its got an identity crisis, which may or may not resolve its self with the full game.

i personally think the demo was good but what ive seen of the full game it was very small only 2 plasmids(fire and thunder) and 3 weapons(wrench, pistol, machine gun) that i found, and only 1 type of ammo for each.
but i think the full game will be a lot more open and there are so many ways to do each section: hacking bots, using plasmids, setting traps, hypnotiise big daddys to protect you or just shooting it to shit with the chemical launcher
i can't wait for this and mass effect, i love open games where u can play through it a few times without getting bored
Bad Bits:
-Water doesn't actually fill a room, just dissapears.
-Blood effects.
.
yeah i agree the water should flood sections of the game and cause either rerouting or finding a way to drain it out

I'm not sure what to think because honestly, I have no idea what Bioshock is trying to be (or not to be). I agree with Trig on the gfx wearing off thing and at that point some design flaws present themself ..... as mentioned, for a fps it's too slow paced. It actually has everything you'd want/expect in a stealth/sneak kind of shooter. I kept wanting to lay in wait, watch stuff and use a more tactical approach to things but the mechanics are just not there to use. The game is almost teasing you with how cool a stealth/sneak/cover mechanic would work but it's just not there. It always feels like something is missing, you always feel kinda exposed (on purpose ?) and not really in control. Dunno how to put it exactly because I myself can't even put my finger on what exactly I am missing :)
But it looks cool, plays smooth and does some impressive stuff. Good enough I guess :)
Chris
August 14th, 2007, 18:23
The gameplay and atmosphere feel (as someone has already said) much like Condemned. Dark and real. Although I think Condemned's audio was incredible. These two games tap into primal fear on a weird level.
Voyager2k
August 14th, 2007, 18:49
These two games tap into primal fear on a weird level.
You have a primal fear of little sisters ?! _o_
To add to my previous post ... another thing that I felt was disturbing is all the stuff to look at, pick up, investigate etc. It's overloaded with "distractions" which causes you to move through the areas at a very slow pace. Clear out enemies, then search every inch for "loot".
Bioshock also suffers from the same problem as Stranglehold. Even tho you can do all these cool things, it's most efficiently played like every standard shooter and that is how you play it. Stranglehold plays like Lost Planet, Bioshock plays like FEAR. First person shooter, 3rd person shooter ... no matter how much cool stuff you throw in those games, at their core they are what they are and that is how you end up playing them and mostly ignoring all the cool stuff that makes them unique.
Why zap a security bot, then hack it so it kills a Splicer for you if you can just headshot the splicer, loot and move on ? There is no incentive beyond "'cuz I can" to use the advanced stuff over straight forward shooting your way through.
Disappointing ? Hm, not really. I guess it does deliver what we expected. Just with much lesser impact.

but now i can look forward to:mass effect, Halo 3, Blacksite, assassins creed, lost oddysey, FIFA 08, Tony hawk's(which i have to say looks much improved over the last few outings), two worlds, clive barker's jericho,Dark Messiah:Elemants(still undesided), Football Manager 2008, call of duty 4, guitar hero 3
I can save you some money here ... take Two Worlds off that list because the game is simply overhyped shit (rent the pc version if in doubt). Then again, I am not sure how their last attempt at certification went ... the game may not make it to the 360 at all anymore since they seem to have stopped working on it after the 1.04 update was released (which was still more bugs 'n shit than features).
But even if they manage to get the 360 version on store shelves somehow ... stay clear of it. You'll hate the game because of it's huge design flaws. Bugs one can forgive/live with .... design flaws ruin it.
Just get Bioshock and forget about Two Worlds. It's a much better game and the review scores are pretty amazing. I am actually surprised by those scores. Scores beeing so high across the board is a very, very rare occasion.
I hope for Irrational (now 2k Boston/Australia) that the game sells really well. They deserve it for making a great single player game with a great story.
Little Sisters in this level: :o :o :+
EDIT: LOL, I thought I'd check up on Two Worlds just for kicks and guess what ... it's delayed AGAIN ... this time they blame Microsoft for manufacturing problems :) Yeah rite ...

but yeah im def getting bioshock i cannot wait for that game but i relly need a good online title. i cannot wait for halo 3.
also who would be up for playing some custom games on the 26th september
(the uk launch) so we can get a few people together and hav a look around the leveals, ect, ect.

its 98 off 11 reviews thats extremlly impressive i wonder if anything this year can beat it
if anything can its either halo 3 or mass effect

Nah, the only "competition" this year is COD4. Halo 3 won't even come close. It will sell better but it won't be a better game. Mass Effect is too diffrent to be a fair game to compare with and it has a very diffrent audience.
I actually expect COD4 to score similar to Bioshock except for the story. That's where COD4 will "lose" because Bioshock's story is simply genius in design and telling and there is very little, if anything, wrong with Bioshock. So that's gonna be hard to beat but if any game gets close this year it will be COD4.

i meant reviews score and mass effect seems open like bioshock and i think itll do well.
also as for halo 3 it'll do well in reviews cause of the multiplayer.
evreyone says there sick of halo and that its not as good as its made out to be but at the end of the day untill gears of war came out it was still being played more than evrey other xbox 360 title
call of duty won't do well cause although it's brilliant, its never quite perfect i think call of duty will be 9s and mabey afew 10s but i cant anything matching bioshock for reviews unless its halo 3(ive decided even though i personally might think mass effect is there with bioshock, RPGs are an aquired taste)

Mass Effect is more like a third-person shooter with deep RPG elements than a hardcore RPG.

yeah i know but whenever the title rpg is strapped onto a game alot of people imediattly dismiss it thinking its going to be like final fantsy(which i like anyway, apart from 11).
i think if the games as open and as customizable(is that a word?) as its made out to be it'll be great.this is one of the 4 games i could'nt wait to get this year
(bioshock halo mass effect GTA[2008 NOW THOUGH!!??])

I think Halo 3 will "only" score around the 90% mark, not much higher and not much lower. Mass Effect will be similar, maybe even a bit lower because it's not without problems so far. COD4 caught ppl by surprise and has everyone excited about it like no other game. Watch and see ... it'll score mid to high 90's with the only "flaw" beeing the story, while told truely in epic proportions, beeing "too simple". Wanna take a bet ? We'll know by the end of November when (if) Mass Effect comes out :)

Why is everyone hating on CoD 4's single player campaign when very little is known about it yet?

i guess we'll wait and see i think cause halos multiplayer is just so big and the options in it now look excellent(looking forward to ctf on the elphant) also the matchmaking system should match halo 2s and if so it ll score high 90's
i think your right bout mass effect though mabey high 80s low 90s or high 90s if the gameplay is exceptional because ive only seen about 9/10planets from the game
i relly can't see call of duty doing so well as high 90s i think itll be up there but i donn't think itll upstage halo or bioshock, if they sort out the ranked for the online play and make it great but its hard to predict cause it s not going to be like call of duty 2s cause of the change in timelines but if they do it right ill agree im just waiting to see how well they convert it.
by the way what ive seen of call of dutys single player looks ace the snipers at e3 and that trailer a few months ago with the lasers on the guns was so good.

After many months of anticipation I finally got my copy of Bioshock and played through it over the past few days. There are many things to like about Bioshock such as the graphics (not animation), parts of the story and the water effects. That’s about where the good stuff ends.
First let me say how excited I was for the game after playing the demo on the 360. While the animation seemed stiff and you could tell the 360 was being pushed too hard it still looked like it had a lot of potential. So imagine my disappointment when I got the final version only to find none of the animation hitches, shooting glitches and AI was cleaned up. I also wonder how much better the graphics would’ve been had they not been compressed to fit on a DVD. Now I do not fault the developers for this, they only had so much system power to work with so maybe this will all be addressed with the PS3 version when it comes out.
To conclude, let this game cook in the oven just a little bit longer and wait for the superior PS3 version. Cleaned up textures, animations, AI, extra weapons, Home space, standard HDD and Blu-ray will make this flawed game into a perfect gem.
SDF Score: 5/10

hmm i wonder if a 360 fanboy wrote that and was relly disapointed or if a ps3 fanboy wrote it who hasn't played the game or the demo and is truley a fucking moran and the fact he's pretending to have played and also the 360 version has exlusive weapons too (if the OFFICAL XBOX magazine was telling the truth).
this guy is a Fucking Idiot and he needs a slap
