View Full Version : RIP 360 Help!!!!

So my 360 has been running weird for a long time. I tried playing Halo 2 and it wouldn't go online, it's a lot louder than regular 360's and it seems like some games spin inside a lot faster than others.

So anyways last night I pop in Madden 08 after a week or two of not playing it. Been playing the skate demo a lot. Get into practice mode throwing a few passes then all of a sudden it makes a really loud screech noise and my tv display an image you'd see when trying to use your old nintendo system. All the lines/weird pixels. My 360 was still running w/ green lights. Figured my tv fucked up or something. Switched my tv to HDMI input and tv worked fine. Shut the 360 off and turned it back on, tried playing again. 5 min later same thing. Took madden out and played Skate demo, figured maybe it could just be my Madden disc that's messed up. Nope, same thing about 10 minutes into playing.

Now my question to anyone that can help me. I know Miscrosoft extended their warrantys to 3 years... but I am pretty sure that it's only for red light errors. Am I right? If so what should i do about getting this thing fixed. Eternal Sonata, Skate, Halo, and Mass Effect come out soon. I also need to start practice for the Madden challenge here in Boston in November. HELPPPPPPPPP!!!!

Just say you have a red light error anyway

Ouch, what a shitty time to get a fucked console, which yours is by the way. Us UK people can take it back to the shop and exchange it there and then, if it's under a year old, not sure about USA though.

If you can't, you will get charged by MS because it's only RROD that the 3 year warranty covers. So either pay up to MS, or force RROD on your console. Either way, rumours suggest it's a 6 week turn-around, so you're going to have to wait along time.

Will that work? They won't send it back saying "There was no red light error"? What are the steps i should take to sending it back to microsoft?

Call the free phone number and say you have 3 red lights and the console is not working - the screen freezes, but the power pack light is still green.

I did have 3 red lights when mine broke, but I could switch it on 5 mins later and it still would work and no red lights. But after 2nd time it happened I just called them anyway. The report came back that I needed a new motherboard, new DVD drive and back USB port. I even had my own console returned, but they do a thorough test of everything so they would pick up your problem without the need for lights.

Nath was only waiting a couple weeks was he not?

My first 360 to break was not RRoD, though to get it replaced for free i said it was, they dont check, just tell them its RRoD and you should be okay.

Ok thanks for all the replys/info guys. I'm sure i could have searched and found a countless number of threads so if you've all given this infromation before i thank you for informing me with it again.

So call them up, give them my situation and they will send me tags in the mail that i use in order to ship my console over to them?

Yeah should all be fine, just make sure youre not online when you call them, they want your serial number so i assume they check online status, so be offline for about half hour or so and say you just got RRoD.
My console was only away for 6 days, i was lucky

My 360 is about year and 1/2 to 2 years old. RRoD was extended to 3 years if i remember correctly? So everything should be fine as long as i call while not being on live?

Thanks again for the quick and informative replys.

Yep, feel special for it lasting that long, its a rare thing. My first one lasted 11 months, JUST in time for warrently, 11 months... Not bad for a launch console IMO. But yeah as i said, have your console switched off while you call and suchlike, just say you got RRoD, and they may ask what colour your powerpack light is, the correct answer for tha would be yellow (correct me if i'm wrong there guys?).

UKJAY

NO yellow is in stand by, the correct colour has to be green light on the power pack....and did I say I had my own console returned !!

Is that a good or bad thing? :?

Is that a good or bad thing? :?

It was a joyous occassion. Because usually and more than likely you get someone elses broken one sent to you refurbished. I spent ages moaning about how I was gonna say this to get my money back if I was given someone elses shit, and I was gonna call the credit card company because I paid £90 to get my xbox fixed and they sent someone elses....and after 2 weeks I got sent my original console back and not someone elses refurb, so all my moaning had been a waste!

I have the same serial number (the one which ends 666) but I have a different console ID number - but I can still play my arcade games offline despite the different console ID. It's the same serial number 100% though, and the only noticable difference is that the inside bit seems too big for the plastic because the back don't slot in together no matter how hard you try.

I may post a pic of what I mean later because I've said that a lot now.

Yeah you dont send your HDD, just the console, no wires, nothing but the actual Xbox 360 itsself, if you do not recieve your own console back, all it means is you will not be able to play any arcade games you have payed for without being signed into live.

OMG i wish i read this thread before.
I had the same error with my console it ended up with error 74.
It turns out that the connectors that the AV cable plug into had melted.:(
I had to pay £60 for a repair. I so wish that i knew i could just say 3 red lights, Now repair for free please. O well there always next time because we all know there will be. :(

Taking the HD out isn't voiding their warranty?

So here's a little update...

I called 1-800-4my-xbox today from work. The guy i talked to gave me a list of troubleshooting that included trying a new set of cables, cleaning my cables off, cleaning my cd drive out, and unplugging from my tv/replugging in. I'm going to call back tomorrow and claim none of this worked only due to the fact that i'm 99.9% positive there are a few things wrong with my 360. Thing that include...

EXTREMELY loud cd drive noises. Now i know the 360 is loud but few of my friends have 360 as well and their are no where near as loud as mine.

Some regular xbox games i cannot play. They just spin extremely fast inside of the 360 and make the sound of a 1980's printer.

And now all of the freezing/errors every 20 min in. I think it'd just be safer to get the new 360.

Hahaha no way! My buddy has a PS3 i don't like it much. Not many games i'd want to play on there that i can't on 360 anyways. I like the XBox controller much more. Only reason i'd think about touching a PS3 is for Metal Gear and Final Fantasy.

I aint buying no games for my pS3 ever !! its my fantastically cheap blu ray player for a 50inch plasma - thats all it is...will I be on 'home' NO - will I bother with 'BigLittlePlanet' NO, (despite my previous consideration for it) its another reason why I accept no friends requests on it too.

But I do like the quality of 1080 Blu Ray movies - oh & lemmings.

Yeah, pretty much every post of yours states how you love your breadbin, i think we get it now. Wow, no freeze, shame theres nothing to actually do with it game wise while youre not freezing.

I never get a system freeze when I use my HD-DVD drive either guess u get the same when watching Blu-ray films too... because ur obviously not using it to play games or talk to people...

I think the whole box thing is America only cos I had to provide my own box too
