I know, it got listed in that (fake imo) earlier Fall Update list, but here's an interesting article (and Engadget has the original) about upcoming additions to Media Center -the Xvid and Divx codecs. If that's true, than this isn't too far out!

I agree, but with all the movies I have, I still have to hope that i'll finally be able to natively stream them to my 360.

All my movies, purchased from local retailers, come in DVD and HD DVD format. No Xvid or Dvix in the bunch, so this news is useless to me.

Never even heard of Xvid...but I doubt it'll happen. DVD or HD-DVD for me...even better if they made a Blu-Ray, but it wont happen

so i'm like the only one with a s1ht load of movies on a bunch of external drives, collected over time? And seriously, anyone using his game console to watch HD DVD is not right in his mind imo? Like, if you are willing to spend $$ for the best quality video, then you'd spend the extra few bucks on a HD-DVD or Blu Ray player to hook into your home cinema geddup? It sounds like living in this mansion, but with a Pinto (Skoda for the Europeans :) in the garage? Kudos all the same, I don't have the HD-DVD -i will get one when games come out on it. Xbox is for games, home cinema is for movies, at least for me. Anyone see it this way?

As a PS my deep hidden reason for not using my xbox fro watching movies is that i'm scared sh1tless for the RROD -I lost one already to it.

ya, my 360 can read them fine just as regular dvds.
After downloadin the xvid/whatever format the movie is really, i put it into a program on my mac called VisualHub. It then converts said file into a DVD iso with full structure and correct authorization, then i just load it on to a disc, you can use any .iso burning software, but the one i use is called Cheetah DVD Burner.
hope that Helps ya!

From what I hear, being 'stuck' with XP is better than Vista atm. Where's SP1?

JasonA

No Vista is really good...could never go back! XP service pack 3 is out soon and Vista gets a new one too I think...

i just need to get the new version of nero to burn dvds on vista, that program is the best i've ever used on xp, hopefully the new vista compatible one will be the same quality. for a while i was converting all my videos to wmv using windows movie maker but then i realized i would never use any of it so i stopped.

Mac's ftw, totally agree.

Vista is bollocks if you like software, back compat. problems to the max.

I have XP SP2 on my custom built PC, Vista Ultimate/Tiger OSX on my iMac G5 (Dads, rarely on it.)
