Never played it but I'm pretty psyched about Too Human (same dev's).

Yeah. Eternal Darkness had these crazy visual effects that were pretty good. Like one time, you walk into some random room and everything's upside down. Or you walk into another room and it's just pure white all around and your character. Keep in mind it's all random, it freaked me out and made me realize how creative the whole thing was. And yes, it was only on the Gamecube.

i read about the part where it pretends to erase everything on your memory card, that would piss me off even after i knew it was fake.

I do remember that, and I also remember the controls flipping out for a few seconds here and there. And also being able to fly around a room with staircases on the ceiling and on the ground and the sides of the rooms. It was great. I love games that mess with your head.

I loved it. The insanity meter (and the resulting shenanigans) were immensely good game-design.

For example, if your insanity got high enough, it would 'crash' and revert to the title screen - a couple of seconds later it would cut back, with the main character holding his head in his hands and sobbing "This isn't happening!!!"

Absolutely classic gameplay design.

And miles ahead of the likes of Resident Evil and Silent Hill for imaginative storytelling, too. I've always found RE to be somewhat boring (I gave up on the series after the 2nd one, admittedly) and the first Silent Hill just pissed me off a lot.
