The Panasonic 50inch plasma is MY tv already.... it's great for gaming, good choice. But beware of screen burn with plasma - it dont take much to leave an imprint behind.

Whaaaa? I thought that was eliminated years ago?

There's easy ways round it though. You have to reduce the brightness of your TV for around 100 hours of viewing, kinda like you're breaking it in, then go for it!

Yeah I use the PS3 on it for movies... my 360 is on an LCD and I no longer see the CoD3 compass embedded in everything I watch/play..

The Burn in is one thing that concerns me
But would a break in period really make a diff?

You don't notice it too much, change in games, and say you're leaving a game paused and you're going for a drink or pee - just press off on the TV.

Also you only really notice the burn when the screen goes black (not when the TV is off) just if the whole screen is black when a DVD loads up or something.

It is a good TV & worthy of a purchase, really vivid colours too. Old pic below when it was in the bedroom

I upgraded from a 19" Wide-screen TFT monitor to a 26" LCD HD ready TV

After that 50inch had to leave my bedroom - I used a 19inch Widescreen TFT monitor bought from dabs.com whilst waiting for my 32inch to arrive...

19" is awful, I think you need at least 26" to benefit from HD

Totally agree with that!!! U don't get half the colours or clarity and obviously the details are larger and crisper too

Also 1360 x 768 setting on HD-VGA is better than 720p or 1080i using component. I don't know anyone else with VGA to also confirm it....

LCD's don't suffer from screen burn in, right?
I got a 42" Philips 1080p. couldn't be happier with it. my apt. is small, any bigger of a tv would be annoying.

edit: i find humor in "UK" jay having an American flag as his 360 wallpaper.

Thats right.. LCD's dont suffer burn..

The US flag thing - yeah that's the order of the CoD3 Theme when on Dashboard. It's US flag first on sign in. :(

If its for gaming, go with LCD.
While plasma screen burn is rare for today's TVs, it can still happen if youre not careful. Why chance it? for a little bit extra on the contrast ratio? Not really worth it IMO, but to each his own, right? I know some of the higher priced plasma models have this feature where the pixels actuall 'rotate' in extremely small increments (think one up, one right, one down, one left etc.... like, in a circular pattern almost) so the picture, even if on pause, is never truly stagnant. It'll avoid the potential burn in, but comes at a premium.

I can't remember which tv had this feature, but I do remember it was significantly more expensive.

Either way, the upgrade to HD will be a smart move.
Games, sports, some television......it all looks so much better.:D

When i picked up COD4, they had a display w/ a small little 19" tv and Ratchet and Clank Future playing... it's been a while since i've seen games on a non hd tv. 'next gen' games look pretty last gen when playing on that crappy quality.

the move from SD to HD is as big as a move from sega genesis to the 360.

edit: don't get me wrong, i understand what you're saying. "panaSOIC".. but. as far as Panasonic goes, they're like an empire in japan aren't they? i heard the big corporation in Tekken was modeled after / a parody slash tribute to Panasonic?

Gaming in HD wasn't even my priority when I bought my tv.
It was for sports. Plain and simple.

However, I still remember when I first loaded up Oblivion in HD.
My first real "WOW" moment with games in a very long time.....

The step up for me from SD to monitor to HD was massive should have skipped the monitor and got the HD sooner GOW and most other games look superb Oblivion was awesome shame its a bit glitchy really (yes i know the whole open endedness etc) but its a pretty sweet game can't wait till my dad gets his 1080p tv soon :9~

Panasonic AVC Networks Co. took the wraps off a new line of TVs less than 1-inch thick as well as a mammoth 150-inch TV the size of a rhino.Speaking at the Consumer Electronics Show in front of a crowd of thousands in Las Vegas Monday, Panasonic president Toshihiro Sakamoto revealed Panasonic's plans for the future of consumer electronics. The new line of Viera TVs is expected to hit the market sometime next year. He did not announce a release date or pricing for the 150-inch TV (which measure 11-foot by 7-foot) that Mr. Sakamoto dubbed, "the world's largest flat screen TV." The big TV is the size of nine 50-inch TVs grouped together.
