Uncharted: Drake's Fortune

The demo's been up since Thursday, anyone play it yet?

I did, and was surprised that it was actually fun.

Me too, just didn't have as much time to spend with it as I intended to. Contrary to what has been said about the controls I found them to be working pretty well but the Camera does need some minor work I'd say. Overall I was fairly impressed with the game.

The demo was so so. It was a lot of combat / not a lot of puzzle solving. not sure if the entire game plays out like that.

The television commercials definitely make me want to play it... But then again, so do the commercials for Mass Gay for the 360.

I heard this game was short, but can't find where i read that at right now. I may wait to rent it, i'm trying to save some cash for xmas. But then again.. if i get bored... i may end up getting this on a whim sometime soon.

I don't know what to think of Uncharted, really. It's a nice bag filled with awesomeness of all kinds but it also has some minor, at least for my taste, annoyances that almost break the game and make it a frustrating experience.

The camera has a tendency to get in the way pretty often in the worst possible moments and the levels can get pretty disorienting because of that and the fact that you, more often than not, have to perform leap of faith kind of maneuvers because you simply have nfc where to go/jump next. And as you can imagine, most attempts at that result in death.

With that beeing said and out of the way, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune scores pretty damn high in almost every other aspect. Naughty Dog drove production values through the roof and easily rivals Lair and Heavenly Sword when it comes to overall presentation quality. It's easily one of the best looking console games out there. Gunplay is solid and pretty much like Gears of War with destructable covers and with much less awkwardness in the controls. The rest is pretty much Tomb Raider on steroids, no boobs version.

H2H isn't flawed, it's simply obsolete because it's inefficient. When you learn the combos you try em a few times, die a few times from playing bullet magnet and then go back to shooting the bad guys because you can't use cover in fistfights ....

It looks pretty good and if you only have 1 opponent (hardly ever happens) it's sometimes worth it to go h2h just because you can and it looks so damn cool. When in times of desperate need one might revert to h2h for the lack of bullets on one's end and for the overwhelming amount of opponents who have nothing less in mind than your untimely demise on the other.

I wrote that Uncharted is one of the best looking console games. I need to correct that statement .... it's easily THE BEST LOOKING console game made until this date and it rivals Crysis on high settings. Around the middle of the game (when you get to the monastery) the visuals are breathtaking and the water effects make Bioshock look like a dirty bathtub.

The funny thing about Uncharted's visuals is that they're not stunning and knocking you out of your shoes the moment you see a nice looking place. It's more subtle, takes time to notice all the little details among the excessive prettyness. Details like changing wind speed that causes the plants to sway diffrently or the unbelievable water effects on the river that leads to the monastery. Very impressive stuff. If only the camera wouldn't suck as much :/
