So, pretty much I just wanted to started a thread to get people's thoughts on "XBLO"(nifty eh?)

I'm personally pretty amped for Psychonauts, as I like many, felt that game never really got the chance it deserved, and since it's initial release time, has gotten a lot of positive press from several nostalgic gamers. I think this will be a great platform to give new life to the game and bring in many new fans.

And then obviously there is Halo... I mean wow... I only heard this from word of mouth, but has anyone else heard (or maybe it's official IDK) that this XBLO version of Halo will have online playability via XBL? If so, I know a lot of people that would be all over that.

Pretty neat stuff though either way. I'm excited to see what else they roll out. Would be cool if they could somehow go back and purchase the rights to some non-Xbox games now and get some of those up there. It could really be a chance for gamers to get a hold of some great, undervalued, more obscure titles like Psychonauts etc.

Anyways, thoughts?

I wouldn't get too excited about that Halo 1 online pipe dream.

yeah, X-BLOW.

I think some are a good idea, like Halo and Psychonauts, but really, how much is too much when it comes to old games? Especially at $15 for the download, I personally hate not having a box. You can get "Best of Platinum Hits" for $10, and that's box, manual and disc.

Haha X-BLOW, I like it. Expect to see that on the front page soon!

i wished they reveal more info like what games we'll see in the long run, download space and i want to know if there like xbox 1 games now (how u can't access the guide or xbox live unless its compatble in the game to begin with)

I think it'll work like the Arcade. Im sure the dashboard is still accessible. It may just say player playing Xbox Originals... like the way you play games in XNA Launcher too. No matter what Im playing, the guide still functions and I can communicate with everyone- but it always says Im just playing XNA Launcher regardless of what game and theres no achievements either....

You'll be able to access the guide but you won't be able to communicate with anyone.

That's how it works for backwards-compatible games too. Unless the game you're playing is Live enabled in the first place, you won't be able to communicate.

Have I stated anywhere that I can access Live & the guide playing an Xbox original game? I already know you can't do such a thing. My post is relating to what may happen when XBLO games arrive. There may be an application to launch them in the same way XNA launches home made games - because with XNA you can still access the guide & communicate with everyone - they just can't see what you're playing.

I've got Halo2 & Sonic Mega Collection.
Im waiting on CoD1 & CoD2:BRO

im mostly excited to see what else is coming up, because psychonauts shows that it would be a great way to get some good, somewhat more obscure games back into the mix.

It will be interesting to see what else comes put and if they can make it cheaper. Plus get rid of these errors that make your system crash. That's no good!

what if Halo 1 all the sudden had online multiplayer?

Or any other game that was only single player in Xbox 1 form?

If that happend, I'd at least think about it.

True, but concidering MS has already admitted that some games may have some freezing issues, that means that they are just giving us the games "as is", they're taking the disc, dumping it to some sort of image, and serving that over live. It will be no different that the old disc version except perhaps some better load times. These are not ports!

Too bad really... a lot of people would want halo 1 online, just look at the decent sized pc community it developed.

yeas as much as i would wish they would includes this kind of stuff microsoft has already game about showing that they dont have much interest in updating the games. i mean what the game crashes if you click on those old demos. cant they have some like intern programmer spend a few days and remove that kind of stuff. well, a we can do is wait and see

Unless Im mistaken - Halo1 was never developed to be an online game? So to take this online wouldn't bungie have to be hard at work creating new maps, lobby system and making sure it's all in last gen graphics???

If Im wrong - then Im looking a twat right now.

Chris
November 22nd, 2007, 10:22
You'd expect last gen graphics. Bungie may not even have to get involved, as they may just need to write the code to switch out LAN with Online. Sure, you'll need to create a lobby system, but if that's all that a team's working on, it shouldn't be too much of a hassle.

-BUT

Back to reality, I'm about 80% sure it won't have online and that it'll just be a dvd image that's available on XBL. (Like someone already said above me.)

Yeah I'd imagine that this will be similar to Wii's Virtual Console. They won't care too much about known glitches or bugs, they'll just shove it up there for people to buy.

Read this on GameSpot last week and thought I should post here since everybody has so many questions about the service:

GS: So there won't be enhanced content or added online play in Xbox Originals?

AG: No. What we're basically doing is taking the games as they were originally created and maintaining that. We want to preserve the integrity of what that original game experience was like. If they have online multiplayer, it's there. Whatever functionality was built into that original game is what people will get. We're not going back and getting the teams that made the game and having them open the vault and recode them or anything like that.

GS: Will achievements, in-game messaging, and the rest of the Xbox 360 trapping be integrated somehow?

AG: It will perform just like a backward-compatible game, so you'll have limited access to those things. You'll be able to hit the guide button to get into the dashboard, but you won't have access to in-game messaging and things like that.

For the rest, go here (http://www.gamespot.com/news/6182876.html?tag=result;title;2).

Yeah, so Wii VC it is then. And they aren't even bothering with a fully functioning guide? PoS confirmed.
