Any of you all have a DS by chance? Any of you all play some Advance Wars?

I never played the GBA games, but I picked it up on a whim for my DS back when I first got my DS a few years ago. Hell of a game to pick up...easily one of my favorite games of all time to be honest. I have put in over 300 hours of play myself. I turned a few of my friends on to it and both of them are between the 250 and 300 hour mark as well. Then my wife got hooked and she picked up her own copy...she now has almost 300 hours put in to it as well. I can't count the nights we would sit around together (sometimes just her and I, other times there would be 4 of us) and play maps against each other and just have it out. We all would play for hours...incredible game. Truely amazing...and really...it can be hard as fuck too (although I have read that the GBA versions were even more difficult).

So yesterday was my birthday. I used a little b-day money and picked up the new Advance Wars: Days of Ruin. Honestly...I have yet to take it out of the celephane and play it :D I am kind of scared...I know it will consume my free time to no end just like the other one. And I'm still working on all 120 stars in Mario Galaxy and I am picking up Sonic and The Secret Rings tonight. Plus...my boys are asking for my help in Metroid Prime 3. So I'm scared to unwrap it and start playing as it will steal me away from my family and everything else for a while :D

But does anyone else here play it? It has some online functions...and you can play online. Curious if anyone here would be up for a match in the near future.

It is a game I never tried even though I had a Ds and then a Ds lite for well over 2 years now. :)

To be honest from videos it did not seem like a game I could play well and really get into. I might get this new one perhaps in the future if I see it cheap, but for now I decided to stop buying games for at least 2 weeks. Just for the DS I got way too many games to finish like Pokemon Diamond and Dungeon Blue,Tingle Rosy Rupeeland and now Elite Beat Agents and some other games to finish too.

I am running in to that issue right now. I have a lot of new games and I haven't finished them to the completion that I want to finish them. I like to think of Advanced Wars as strategic, modern day warfare chess. It's an incredible strategy game...and it makes you think long and hard about your next move and what to build and the game isn't scared to punish you for making a mistake either. I do admit...if you are looking for an easy game, then it's not going to be your cup of tea :)

Edit: The graphics are minimal and left with a charm for a reason...because the strategy and AI behind the machine takes a lot of cpu power. So they leave the graphics pretty basic, with a nice charm to them so the game can concentrate on other things. Like kicking your ass.

I'm like you, I hadn't played the GBA games, but picked up the first DS one, whatever it was called. I really enjoyed it although didn't complete it, and was tempted to buy this as it has receieved some positive reviews (http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/ds/advancewarsdaysofruin), but the problem is I rarely play my DS as I don't travel long distance frequently, and at home I'll just play the 360.

Decisions, decisions! Be sure to post your thoughts when you play it for a bit!

I read Kotaku's impressions the other day and they said it's more of the same, excluding the new online functionality. So seeing how you don't play it at home, I wouldn't recommend you to pick up the second one ;).

I almost started playing it last night, but I went to bed instead. I'm sure I will probably start playing it tonight or this weekend and then post my initial thoughts...but if it's just more of what was already previously done...then I know I will be incredibly happy.

In Advance Wars:Dual Strike, you got the war room. With skills off, 2 co maps, I have an S on every map. Skills on, same thing. S with every map. 3 CO maps is what I have been working on with no skills. I have an S on all but 4. 2 of those are an A rank and the other two I just haven't tried. 4 CO maps...I have 2 S's in there...and haven't really tried the others. I have spent and sunk too much time in to this game...ahaha. But I'm not alone. My wife's game is pretty close to the same state as mine concerning the S ranks and the War room.

I just got it, but I haven't had a chance to try it out. Hopefully this weekend.

I've been playing it now when I can...which isn't as often as I like :D I really like how they throw training missions at you while you are going through the campaign. Completely optional and you can come back to a mission to go for the S without having to replay the whole campaign. The new units are pretty nice so far and the AI isn't so...baitworthy. Some of the CO's in AWDS were easy to bait in for the kill and others were not. I am having a harder time baiting the AI in Days of Ruin right now...which is just awesome. Overall, it's more of the same stuff with some updated units and everything. The units advancing in levels with kills is a nice bonus. There are still quite a few things that I have not experienced yet, but I will get there at some point :D

I got this for a really cheap price last week and it arrived at the weekend! So far I got up to level 11 and it has been a lot of fun! ^_^
