Most of us know that Rock Band is the answer to Guitar Hero, but:
Rock Band allows gamers to perform music from the world’s biggest rock artists with their friends as a virtual band using drum, bass/lead guitar and microphone peripherals, in addition to offering deep online connectivity. Built on deals with the world’s biggest record labels and music publishers, the music featured in Rock Band spans all genres of rock and include many of the master recordings from the biggest songs and artists of all time.
Now look at the guitar:

I just got back from my local EBGames. I pre-ordered Guitar Hero III and Rock Band. GH3 came as a bundle for $99.99 (same as 2), but this was for the wireless controller and game. Rock Band was $69.99, but this was for the game only. No price available on the controllers yet. (all prices quoted are in Canadian dollars)

i have to say im very intrigued by this game i cant wait to see the finished product, but im thinking it may just turn out as a cheap ripoff of GH that might suck, although the extra peripherals may make up for it

I'm more worried about the pieces of GH left in Neversoft's hands.
Eventually they'll make it so it's your story and let you stop playing the guitar. Rock on.

ok i didnt want to start a new thread so...
does anyone have this game, i seriously am thinking of getting it and would like to hear a review from someone from here since i trust all of ur opinion's.
and if you got it...would u recomend the whole kit or just the game by itself?
also, i was curious as to if the writers or w/e from the site were going to be posting an official review of the game anytime soon, cuz ur scores seem to reflect my own personal ratings on games.
thanks for any help,

I've been playing this over my friends house for the past two weekends and as a previous Guitar Hero 2 and 3 owner I really like Rock Band a lot. So this weekend I went on Ebay and scored the game and the mic. (I already have the GHII guitar). Eventually I will get the drums and 2nd guitar but for now money is tight.

I'm still waiting for my game and mic to arrive. I'm getting anxious!
Ok, so I got the game and mic last night. LOVE it. It's a lot of fun. Any hints or tips on vocals? I know all about pitch and how it works in theory but I'm struggling with volume of my voice and how close I should have my mouth to the mic. Does it mater how close your mouth is to the mic and should I play around with the mic sensitivity level option or leave it alone?

Yea, I'm already half way there. I bought Guitar Hero 2 so I've had a guitar. I bought the game and mic off EBAY. I have a friend who is looking for a wireless guitar and he might sell me his Guitar Hero 2 wired guitar if that goes down. Then all I will need is the drum kit and I have everything thing I need. I just don't want to drop $80 on the drum set right now. :?
The game is a lot of fun and seeing new songs available every week is exciting!

The bundle only comes with three "intraments", fyi. It comes with one guitar, the mic and the drum. So to play four player, you're gonna need to buy another guitar. Go for a guitar Hero one, like I said.
@Worms -- Playing on a GH3 guitar ruined the rock band guitar for me. I had a hard time adjusting to it, and eventually just quit trying.

Well we finally got Rock Band. While I don't find myself playing it alone at all, I do catch my wife with the Xbox on playing it! I went with the 360 version just because I want downloads. Still not much I "have" to get, but it is a blast to play.
The setup, take down and storage of the drums is something to be prepared for if you have little kids or animals that like to chew. I can only just squeak by on easy still with the drums, I put it up one level and after three songs I went back. I admit it, I went and bought a set of Vic Firth sticks to play with too! O-)
The Guitar feels way better than my brief experience with GH2's guitar, being wired is a little restraining for going over the top, saving band members is way fun! Playing as a bass is great fun for me since I hear the lower spectrum easier. It has a very good feel in my hands too and I like the fret board not having the colors. Stinks not to be able to play it on GH yet.
The mic is well ... since I don't know the songs very well but I can sing so I can follow the pitch w/o an issue, it is sloppy even on hard. BonJovi's track was a blast to sing with my "band" at the top of our lungs!
I can say I know a few of the songs, not as many as I hoped. I really enjoy Rock Band playing with our friends. Thanks for your advice on the matter!

Yeah, I'm not sure yet. I've really only got into the guitar part so far. I noticed that I got at least 10 perfects in Rock Band in the first day I played, when In Guitar Hero I only got maybe 2 for the whole life of the game. I could just suck of course at Guitar Hero, but wow.

I don't have it yet, my mate just got his for 360 today so I went round and played it a bit. The drums arn't that hard, once I get it for myself I can get used to them, and playing on guitar is so so so easy compared to Guitar Hero. I only played about 7 songs w/ guitar and I FC'd 4-5 of them first time playing them on Expert :/

Must be nice to have rhythm... _o__o__o_
My wife has more play time than I do on it, but my kid has already beat it once on guitar, he is working through the drum. I should have never let him have a silver account now I don't get his achievements! The funny part is watching him outfit his character, while not many tatoos he has green spiked hair and some huge bass guitar on his current character, the levels of personalization are stunning to a non-RPGer.
Hardware Update: We went out and bought GH3 with a controller for the second guitar, after 30 min I put it all back in the box and took it back, picked up the wireless Rock Band guitar. The guitar being a little bigger makes more sense to my fat fingers. I don't think it is the game difficulty that makes Rock Band easier, I find that the controller makes a huge difference.
Oh and on a side note, I love the music "sales" weekly to get me to pick up a song, I really want some more 80's Rock so I can sing O-)

GH3 Les Paul owns the RB Strat.
I was playing on the Strat for 2 songs today and I was like, bollocks to this :/
Guitar Hero World Tour looks IMMENSE. The guitar for that is a PRS I think, or it looks like a PRS. And It has epic drums.

NOW it is official. My Wife plays Rock Band toooooo much! She posted this to her blog for our kids, and my Mother-In-Law ....
= = = = = = = = = = = O-)
Five Signs your mom is playing too much ROCK BAND
1. Your mom got up at 05:30, put dinner in a crockpot, did her housework, and sent you out to play all day because her band was conquering the Endless Setlist today.
2. You have a special fan in your family room just in case mom gets hot while drumming.
3. You scrape your knee and need a band aid. She hollers over the music, "Not now, Mommy has to finish this solo. I am trying to win a jet for my Rock Band!"
4. Your mom and her friends are referring to each other by their Rock Band alter egos.
5. When your four year old sister is asked who she looks like she breaks out in song, "Oooh ee ooo, I look just like Buddy Holly."

Yes, the plan is that she will get her own Xbox after this weekend. 8)

Since I never got Rock Band I don't have a drum set. I will be buying Rock Band 2 (just the game) and playing through all the guitar parts on that, and for Chirstmas I hope to get GH:WT since you can use the drums on Rock Band 2.
What are other people doing?

Is it possible to have someone over, log into their account, have them "re-download" a song that they already downloaded on their system, then be able to play that song whenever I want? I'm thinking no, but I've read some things that state otherwise.

Your friend will be able to download the song to your machine and you will be able to play it as long as his account is signed in.
There is a way to allow you to keep the song if he buys the song on your machine using his account, the dlc will be locked to your machine. You can use it as much as you like and he can use the song on any machine that he logs onto live from that point on.
The drawback is that he has to be signed into live to use it on his own machine, meaning if live is down or his net is down, he can't play it.
Also no other players on his machine will be able to use it unless he is also signed in.
Sorry if that is confusing.
