Lotus 111s

Just purchased it this morning and i must say it is simply amazing to play and even more amazing to look at.
I am however getting a problem downloading the game update! anyone else struggling to get the update. I suspect it is just extremely busy but was wondering if anyone has managed to get it yet?

I do want the game but I'm gonna wait for the full version however long that may be. Good to hear you like it, bodes well for the full release.

What do you think about the photorealism (is that the word?) of the game? Do you think racing looks better in real life or in this game?
And why is it called 'Prologue'?

Graphically this easily the best game i have ever seen, it's hard to put a finger on why. The cars look amazing, realistic, solid, accurate reproductions of the real life counterparts. Sure other games have similar accurate modelling of cars but they just don't seem as good as this. Maybe it's down to the lighting in the game which is truly fantastic and a cut above the rest or something else, all i know is it's replay's are eerily realistic to watch.
It's called Prologue as it is just a small snippet of the full game (even though no game costing £24.99 offers this much). The full game will i am sure at least quadruple the content in this version.

I wouldn't wait, that game could be 12-18 months away, you will be missing out on one of the most amazing driving games available, for as little as £17.99 if you buy online.

I'll be grabbing this promptly in April once it's released over here. I already bought a wheel for 360 so I can't justify buying another just for this game, so that's unfortunate - but I imagine it's still a blast with the plain old sixaxis :)

Managed to get the update after i found this about port forwarding on GT website.
LAN to WAN
* Must disable packet filtering in the outgoing direction.
TCP: 80, 443, 5223
UDP: 3478, 3479, 3658, 10070, 50100
WAN to LAN
* Set Port Forwarding. UDP: 3658
You will find these on the GT-News after you get the update Doh!!!!!
I got it on second attempt after entering these ports on my router.
It's carnage online, no gentlemen racing going on there, ram or be rammed simple as that. Having a whale of a time though.

I'm not sold on anything Polyphony Digital has done on the PS3 so far. GT HD Concept, GT5 Prologue demo ..... the driving physics are just weird. I don't get what all the hysteria is about tbh. The PS1 and PS2 GT's didn't have those clumsy controls/physics even tho they used MUCH simpler physics models and simplified math. GT5 kinda feels like trying to kick a box around a corner ........ I loved the old games but imho GT is the one series that got progressively worse over the generations. Except for the graphics of course :)
As for the "no gentlemen racing online" remark ..... it's GT ffs :) Using other cars to cut corners is the only way to win considering cars have cornering abilities like a wheelchair at 200mph .....

Each to their own i guess, but i will say that if you leave traction control, active steering and ASM on then the game will fell a bit odd for some as those driver aids are basically getting you round the corners, turn them off and you can powerslide your way round corners if you are good enough and have a wheel.

Not having a wheel might explain the very clumsy feeling but I am almost certain that this isn't the case. Like I said .... starting with GT HD Concept driving felt just weird. Somehow they managed to make it feel like the only way the car can respond to anything is rotation around it's center instead of a "wheel/gravity based" approach. Then again, that's something only few racing games really get to feel right. Funny tho that GT used to be among the few.
It's a shame really. I love racing games and I really want to like GT5(p) but it just feels wrong (and that already includes my minor sony fanboy bonus (at least as much as I am willing to admit to :P)).

Shame to hear you say that as i really can't fault the handling model, it really is fantastic with all the driver aids turned off. Just yesterday i spent 1 hour trying to beat 1 race with my Ferrari F430, it was a little underpowered for the race and i was struggling to come first, 2nd every time was easy but catching the Tuned gt40 before the finish was hard but i was close, i just kept tweaking and tweaking the car settings knowing that i could catch him if i got it right. After several tweaks and races i managed to just squeeze past on the final start/finish straight. That for me is what no other game has ever been able to give me, the ability to tweak a car and be able to feel/see the difference on the track.

Warhawk costs £20 and it offers much more than GT5P.
I do love playing it, and I have allready completed it etc. but it's tiny compared to what it could have been. It's going to get updated and stuff yeah, but it's a joke that it's been out for the Japs since October and its still really short.
And what I did to get the update was declined it and went to GT: TV and it worked.

Shame they haven't added the ability to create a server and invite your friends in. They really need to get this in quick, it's a joke i can't play my mates at this online. Other than that not noticed a problem with anything else. Looks like when i get home i have got alot of updating to do what with new firmware 2.30 and this.

It's exactly why PSN is free. You get what you pay for.

They managed it perfectly with Burnout Paradise, which will inform you if one of your friends comes online and then asks if you want to invite them in. It performs this exactly the same as any XBL game does, so if Criterion can do it why on earth can't Polphony? just laziness if you ask me. There is supposed to be a update which gives GT5P this ability, just when though is another mystery all together.
Your right you get what you pay for, still doesn't stop me whining about it like a little girl ;)

Oh c'mon Chris .... since when do you resort to fanboy gibberish like that ? You can do better for a real argument :)
Considering the free nature of the PSN I'd like to say that it's quite awesome and it gets better almost every day. Comparing the very young and free PSN to XBL which has been around for like 7 or 8 years now (not even counting XBL development period) isn't exactly fair for many reasons.
It won't take long until PSN and XBL offer the same realiability and featuresets with only minor differences.

warhawk makes it's simple to play with friends! No voice chat is just silly though, i'm frustrated it's not supported in hot shots golf either.
There is hope at least...

fanboy gibberish? I own both systems. Why would I have any lean in argument in the first place?
psn needs standards. not open all willy nilly.

Prologue hit the NA marketplace today, I'll be grabbing it as soon as I get home from work! I'd offer to race you Lotus (as you seem to be the only one interested in the game in this thread! maybe voyager?), but still no 'buddy' support in the game!

I'm not as excited about GT5p as I thought I'd be. Add me if you like but if you catch me online it's probably while playing Burnout Paradiese or Warhawk (even tho I didn't even buy the expansions yet).

I have both of those too =], don't think I'll buy the expansion for warhawk just yet though.
