Criminal that no MGS thread exists here yet. Shame on you all.

Anyway as you are all surely aware, 12th June brings Solid Snake back to our PS3 (for now?!?!?!?!) consoles and I for one cannot wait. Anyone in the know will be aware that the game will also ship with a copy of MGS: Online. There's also a Beta prior to the release, which kicks off on the 21st April, running through to the 6th May. Not too long, but a great taster no doubt.

Americans are likely aware that a pre-order nets them a place in the Beta, and the Japanese can get it a million different ways (probably). But what about us EU'ers? No chance right? Wrong!

Head on over to here (http://shhhoff.gametrailers.com/gamepad/index.php?action=viewblog&id=273217) to see how easy it is to secure your place. Yes it's the Japanese version, but who cares? The menus likely will be foreign too, but it's still better than nothing. If none of you do it, I'll be sure to let you know what it's like!

If i had a PS3 i would fucking love to, i've always been a hardcore MGS fan, destroyed every game to date. If no 360 version ever emerges i will buy a PS3 just to fill the Metal Gear shaped space in my life.

Well if the Beta was for the 360, then sure it's fine. But as it's a PS3 ONLY Beta, it needs it's own thread, plus the aforementioned threads weren't so much about the actual game as they were about the game going to MS' consoles.

Im gonna do some reading up on it. Haven't been over interested because its PS3, but I know it's gonna be one hell of a game and many people will buy a PS3 for it...and I could be missing out on a good gaming experience so I'll read more - check out any vids, images and I'll be back here tomorrow...

I played MGS 2 and 3 for a bit and didn't like them too much. Probably because of the old/traditional camera ... MGS 4 does look interesting though.

Beta comes out on the 17th, but doesn't go Live until the 21st, so you've got four days to download it before everything kicks off.

Since I failed at the Jap entry, I decided to see if it's available for the UK yet. However having not turned my PS3 on since November, I'd lost the charge cable for the controller which subsequently had no battery. All is fine now though, except for the ridiculously slow update.

Bad news they have suspended European players, they have monumentally underestimated the amount of people that wanted to play this beta, oh well as long as they extend the period of play i will be happy.

I am still updating the bloody game, the P2P is not exactly lightning speed 60Kb/s but at least we are getting somewhere as on Friday i couldn't get a single byte to come through the P2P.

Fingers crossed they get this running soon then, and then we can all stumble around trying to work out wtf to do in the game, always love the start of online games, as no one really knows what to do, everyone just stumbles about trying everything they can think of. 8)7 :?

Hmmm this will be a extremely busy Beta from Friday (if it starts then) all the way till Tuesday when everyone will start playing GTA4 and this game will be completely forgotten about, i for one will be one of those people.
Konami have dropped a big bollock with this one as there are not going to be many people playing it after Tues, at least they have had the chance to see the amount of interest there is in this game and prepare the online servers for the proper release date.

I had a 10 minute go on it yesterday early afternoon, first impressions were very average but i will give it another go IF i can get back in,as i tried to get in last night and all i kept getting was the message - Servers are to busy please try again later.

So far this beta has been a joke in that respect hardly going to rush out and buy the full game if Konami can't get enough servers to keep the game running smoothly.

Had a good bash at it today, no connection issues, but this really doesn't do anything new that a hundred tactical 3rd person shooters haven't done before. Sure it's well put together but apart from the rather daft porn magazine there isn't anything new here at all.

Human catapult, not the most original device, they have been in games for donkey's years now.

The maps are no better or worse than any other game of this style.

The character making, what a complete waste of time, not only do you have to make YET ANOTHER name (making it 3 names i have for this game) it also makes it much harder in game to identify your enemy/friends as no team has identifying marks/clothes.

The gameplay is exactly the same as every other 3rd person shooter i have played and certainly not as good as some have managed so far.

Overall i really think this is just average, it has nothing for me that would make me play it much more let alone pay for it.

Disappointed.

Don't forget you have to goto Konami ID (https://id.konami.net/login.do) and get a Konami ID and a Game ID, then there is 2 updates to the beta before you can start followed by Create a Character which will need a third name, then you can play, have fun.

Just got home with my copy. 4.6 gig total install, with the initial install taking 8 minutes. One nice thing about about owning a PS3 is that all the install times have given me a chance to catch up on some reading.

It's OK, I only played team deathmatch a couple of times, but it seems everyone but you has a ridiculous amount of health.

Played some single player and some online. The games graphics are awesome. I don't think I have played enough of either modes to give my opinion but right now I like single player and online is a bit frustrating for some reason to me. How do you plant a claymore?

Oh, that's not the end of it ... really :) So I looked up round trip times for 60gb repairs and those currently seem to take 8-12 weeks due to lack of consoles/parts to exchange. But hey, nothing one can do so .....

But that's not the end of it either ......

So I went to the site to generate a repair/pickup order for my ps3 just to find out that the compay that handles the repairs for Sony is moving and took the site down for the duration (which, fortunately, is fairly short but still .... after all this ....) :) Oh well, next week ... maybe.

What an amazing game, I know, could end up flamed for this. But it's the best game ever imo. MGS1 was my favorite until now, and this beats MGS1 by far.

I could have been brought to tears by the ending. Mainly as it's the end of an era. But, it's actually quite a dramatic ending.

I recommend this game to any single person on the planet.

Also, without the cutscenes you wouldn't get to know great information, it would be half of a game ffs.

Wow you really are a blind little fanboy. I've only scratched the surface and I know the cutscenes are annoying and get in the way of the main action. Not all of them are necessary, such as:

When Snake, Merryl and co get jumped by those elite guard things in the cutscene, we have to watch as they take them out. Why can't we do that? Why is it a cutscene when we've just spent the past 15 minutes fighting the very same creatures?

It's bullshit dude and you need to wake up and realise that despite MGS being a great game, cutscenes on the most part are flaws here. You are in the minority; a lot of the storytelling could be done without cutscenes.

I am a die hard Xbox fan. After the first system, I knew they would crush Sony the second time around. And despite the RROD problems the 360 is better than the PS3 hands down. It has better games and a beautiful online interface. You cant ask for much more. However, with all I have just said, it does not change the fact that Metal Gear Solid 4 is not only the best game to come out so far in this console generation. But is also in the top 5 greatest games of all time list period. Say what you want about the cinematics, but on your first play through your gonna want to watch every last minute of them. The voice acting and animation is superb and the musical score epic. And of course on your second, third, and fourth playthrough you can always skip them :) And trust me you will play this game again and again. This is why, no matter how hardcore of a fanboy you are, as a gamer you owe it to yourself to own all the systems. Because if you dont, you'll be depriving yourself of some great digital experiences. MGS 4 CANNOT be missed. It is the first game I would ever buy a system just to play.

Searched for it on Youtube and it doesn't seem to be there. The video shows a photo shoot of one of the four bosses - in her human form, of course :P. You take photos and she poses for you. I'm not sure whether or not this is a special feature in the game ...

Apparently you have to run from them for 3 minutes, then the screen turns white, then pull out the camera and they'll start posing for you. They still try to get close and if they do you'll have to evade quickly or you will die ... quickly.

As much as I like the whole Metal Gear series, number 4 has been a bit of a disappointment for me. The ending takes so fucking long, and I just don't feel like I'm playing a videogame, I'm merely watching an interactive movie.

Don't get me wrong the game is great up until mid-way through Act 3, but after that it becomes a real chore. Colour me not impressed for the serie's finale.
