what is a good switch to buy? my tv only has one hd component input and i have my xbox 1, dvd upscaler, and digital cable box that need to utilize the port

Many good A/V amps have component and svideo switching abilities if you route your video through your amp. Just pointing it out because most ppl looking for a switch have a home cinema setup and simply overlook this neat ability many amps have.

You are very correct. I know of very few people that actually use their amp to switch video, just sound. I have everything going to my amp.

I 3rd the recommendation. What kind of budget do you have? Yamaha 661 / HTR 6060 is a good place to start.

Yea Ive got an Onkyo set up with that ability it is pretty high-end though, I love mine so its not a bad brand to check out if your in the market.
