anybody gonna drop a few beans on this?
from what i hear, its pretty decent, and with an 89 on metacritic it has to be good, question is, will it get lost in the sea of great games this holiday season...
ps, don't think theres another thread on this... did a search and everything!!!

I am going to take a step back from this and maybe buy it when everything else has been and gone. Just like you said with so many good games out at the moment it really has come along at a bad time. It's out Friday is it not?

This will be a solid rental title for me. I haven't looked into it much, but I don't think there's any coop / multiplayer or anything, so the replay value is small. Why buy it?
Hard to find time to play it though...
I still have Metal Gear to finish, Fable 2, Resistance 2 and GoW 2 soon, Last Remnant, Left 4 Dead.... no time!
I think by the time I would have time to rent Dead Space, there may be another 'dead space' type filler game worth renting out... So maybe it will get lost in the holiday rush.

Scary games are no fun for me, so I'll be skipping this.

It's not scary, just another linear 3rd person shooter ... with a somewhat sick twist to it :P

It is something I am interested in playing but because of Fable 2 I will get it when it drops down in price. I waited a few weeks for Too Human and the result was paying £10 for it. :)
It sounds a bit like the first resident evil games that gave you almost no ammo to make them more challenging.

I tried playing this at night when my roommates were asleep, only to shut down the game after the first creepy showed up. I freaked the fuck out. I'll try and play it again when it's sunny outside.

Well more tons of jumpy moments, really scary environment and setting etc. That spaceship is just simply not a happy place.

Opening with a mysterious spacecraft exiting Earth's atmosphere, the game begins on the coast of Guatemala, where an Army Special Forces group, led by Joe Riccitello, is ordered to rescue a presidential cabinet minister kidnapped by guerrilla forces in Val Verde. Joe's old Army buddy and now CIA agent, The rest of the Dead Space crew joins the team and they travel by helicopter to their destination within the jungle.
As the soldiers make their way to the extraction point, they are observed from afar by an unknown creature, who uses infrared imaging to spy. Once members of the team are killed mysteriously, they become aware that something in the jungle is stalking them, whose presence is confirmed by eerie sightings of a cloaked figure. Anna delivers insight into the creature, who has apparently become a local legend for hunting humans as trophies (not the PSN ones). Despite attempts to track down the creature, the team is slowly killed off one by one, until only Joe and Anna remain. Realizing the creature only kills those possessing weapons, a wounded Joe sends Anna unarmed to the extraction point. Joe narrowly escapes the creature—revealed to be a masked, humanoid-reptilian being—by unintentionally covering himself in mud, which hides his body's heat signature, rendering him invisible to the creature's thermal vision.

I heard that the sequel is going to be set in LA during a mysteriously hot summer, and the lead character will be replaced by a black cop. weird eh.

It's nothing like that. Like I said, it's basically a standard 3rd person shooter with a survival horror twist, high production values and a decent amount of polish. It offers nothing you haven't seen in other games like Resident Evil or Silent Hill before.
Looks great, sounds great, lots of gore (LOTS), controls are decent but not great and that's all you really need to know about it.

Give this man a writing job.
Well maybe not per se but I couldn't have said it better myself.

The best thing about Dead Space is the story.
Maybe this content is not available in your area, but go to the Xbox 360 Marketplace and look at game videos for Dead Space. There you will find 6 animated comics. They are about 5-7 minutes in length each and they do a wonderful job of setting up the story for the game. The animated comics are based on the 6 part limited series Dead Space comic book The comics offer more background story than the animated comics and are an incredible read of you can find them. Good to note that an Graphic novel of all 6 issues will be released on October 28th.
If you enjoy the story, there will be an animated DVD/Blu-Ray movie also released on October 28th.
Again, I cannot confirm if any of this information is correct for your area.
