I joined the forums a long time ago and theres something I can't remember - when a new user registers do they have to click a link in their email account before they can start posting?

Because at the moment there are only spammers joining as new members is there any way a temp rule can be place that only allows a new member to only make 1 post until they've been approved - or use the (COPPA) Users Awaiting Moderation thing. I know that the Coppa is when someone needs to be moderated if they are under a certain age, but when you are moderating new users it can also place them here until they've been approved.

http://www.retailmenot.com/forum/feedback/12418-moderated-profile-visitor-messages.html

If you click that website it says:

Please note: the first 5 posts of all new members are manually moderated to help prevent spam, please be patient as they may not appear immediately after you post them.

Can we have something like that but make it first 2 posts? Is that do-able on Vbulletin - anything to do with the Visitor Messages Awaiting moderation in the Control Panel?

The forums are sooo dead... but I'm still here people! Is there any way to promote the website forums so that we get more activity?

Word of mouth is always the best option.

Plus the FP having more frequent and relevant news helps. The more on the FP the more will want to join the forums.

Yeah and believe me, its amazing how many people read the front page...considering there is a small amount of commenters - its nothing to the amount of readers! I wish more people would comment too

Yeah I think another load is the RSS feeds too, so people read the news without having to see the site unless they click the (more)...

Id be willing to get the word out about this forum i may even do a video on it shortly. If the admins would give me the go ahead i could ask all my viewers and subscribers to register and post over here.

Appreciate the help, but it's fine to advertise yourself as a member of the site - but people only need join if they want to. Most visitors to this site just read the front page news and the forums are more or less an extension - no one will complain about promoting the site's news...

What is your webpage where people subscribe to you?

The Spam here everyday now is horrendous. Is there anyway to stop people registering and allow me to approve them - or ban gmail email addresses?
