I sure did and wireless connections can be a real pain but if it was always working then you should be able to get it fixed in no time.

Since I never used a wireless adapter cant really say much but have you tried restarting your router as sometimes I have to do that when logging into xbox live? What stage does the live test stop working and is it with the DNS part?

Try just doing an automatic search on your router, then your Xbox will get all the info it needs.

Wireless = Pain in the arse. I hate having to use it but my Dad is a tail and wont put in a port so I can use our nice Linksys in my room ¬_¬

Yeah its dumb, on the bright side, after nearly a fucking month, MY CONSOLE CAME BACK THIS MORNING!!! Now i just gotta goto my mates house and get my copy of GTA back, and my HDTV should be back in a couple days, things are FINALLY looking up!!!:D

FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK THIS!!! I get my fucking console back and it refuses to connect to live, my wireless adapter is stuck red, says its connected but wont connect to my wireless network, i connected to it manually, says its connected but still says its not connected on the live test, its fucking fucked!! What the hell is wrong?!?! MS said the wireless adapter and router should'nt be separated by walls or floors, but thats bullshit, its been fine with a perfect connected for 2 and a half fucking years, why fuck up now?! I'm going fucking insane, life fucking hates me. WHY WONT IT CONNECT?!?!

Go to System, then Network settings, then down to wireless mode, press A, then after the search click where it says your wireless internet is connected, then enter in your WEP code.

You may have already done that or try System, Initial Setup, then the above.

Bleach22
May 7th, 2008, 21:34
Your router could be blocking the 360 using its arsehole firewall. But that would just make you NAT strict tbh.

And don't bother ringing MS, they're retards with this kind of thing. I rang up to see if I could get a wireless router and it was just "Ummmm... The book does not say anything about this problem..." So I just said fuck it and hung up. Sorted out the problem myself which was my 360 assigned itself to be a public IP address, so really it just made itself a DMZ which my router didnt like.

Stick with the single player, the multiplayer for GTA isn't that fantastic anyway.

i really like the multiplayer, i reckon the singleplayer is a bit easy especially the cop chases- so going against other players is great. plus free mode is maybe the best thing on the 360 imo. try getting a few of you on scooters and get chased by another mate in a gunship down times square. hilarious aint the word.

Just because you suck at the game.

CoD 4 is an awesome game and definitely not over-rated. It's only being overshadowed atm by GTA which isn't surprising, otherwise it's one of the best experiences on the 360, and certainly THE best on the PS3 to date (not including GTA of course).

I just don't like it, it wasn't that I was no good at the game because tbh I was decent at it, especially when I had it on PS3 as again, I find the controller easier to play with especially in FPS'. But, it was just really the same thing over and over, camp, move, camp, move, camp, move.

There is nothing wrong with camping occasionally. It's easy to kill run n' gunners if you can just sit still for 15 seconds and keep your eyes and ears ready. And COD4 is one of the best FPS ever in my opinion. RB6V is great... but COD4 is better.

Halo 3 is a peice of shit. It's actually worse than CoD4 tbh.

Halo Combat Evo has a absolutely amazing single player.

Halo 2 has a shite single player, but class multiplayer

Halo 3 has... Nothing... Singleplayer was VERY short and VERY dull. Multiplayer makes me think i'm in slow motion or something. Why the fuck did they put the framerate down ¬_¬ and the maps are terrible. For one, they remade ZANZIBAR! WHY?! Why not something great like Lockout! Idiots. And the only maps I enjoyed playing were Guardian, Valhalla, Sandtrap was alright, Snowbound and High Ground was decent too. But seriously, what is with the Halo 3 maps? They were NOTHING like the Halo 2 maps in quality.

And go ahead, i'm waiting for someone to say "But you loved it when it first came out" because granted, I did. It was great at first playing with pretty much every member of Xbox Live, it was a right laugh. But once the numbers dropped down and the hype wore off, man that game got boring, and you could finally see what was wrong with it.

EDIT: I may actually play some Halo Custom Edition... Would be fun.

I wouldn't give it a 9 again, but at the time I feel that it deserved the score it got. It was the best Multiplayer experience on the 360 at the time, but has since fallen to wayside in the wake of COD4 and GTAIV. Sure the Multiplayer feels a bit lacking now, but the only thing to compare it to at the time was GoW and CoD3 which it handily outclassed.

Since we are on the topic of sunglasses, I'll pose a question: Does anyone else hate the massive fly-eye sunglasses girls seem to constantly wear these days? At work lat week I told three girls they looked fucking stupid in them, the glasses are just too big and suit only the super-attractive girls.

And I'm insensitive because I don't treat the forums as my Dear Diary? Because I don't care about people on here the same way some of you do? I'm here to keep the forums clean, I'm not here to make people feel better because they have ridiculous issues in their life.

I am insensitive as it happens, but I wouldn't say I was insensitive on an INTERNET FORUM. NO-ONE KNOWS YOU ON HERE REALLY.

I was drunk, i chat shit when i'm drunk as you and i all do. Sorry ard. Wont do it again boss... *thumbs up*

And don't even bother with the whole "don't come on here when you're drunk", cause a lot of people do, Fuck i'm sure i even saw a thread for it once...?

Meh, i must be the only person who manages to occasionally make what i would call "as close to real friends as you can get considering its online", i stick up for people i respect, SORRY!!!!!!!:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:* :*:*:*

You were drunk when? I wasn't referring to anything in particular. I missed the whole "cunt" thing as I was away (ban next time?).

And yes there was a thread for drunken posts, feel free to use it. Pretty difficult for any of us to stop you posting drunk unless we come round and bash your computer in (we're "'ard", so be afraid mmkay?).

I do not consider anyone I haven't met a friend, but I understand that others may have a different opinion on this, and I understand why you stick up for them. Even if they are totally indefensible, it's still cute.

Can we all take a chill pill now and calm down? Ahhh shucks, you gone cold turkey for a month, no pills for you. In which case I look forward to your next "drunk" post. Hopefully it won't be as embarrassing as the above.

Seriously, calm down. I already said to Jay, what I said was a general rant, using Jay as an example. It applied to everyone, no specifics.

Anyway, whatever.

Yeah cause that has EVERYTHING to do with it... obviously. Cause i've never stuck up for anyone or got bitchy when i was still blazing, nahhhh, Don't bring that up just to make me seem like some fucktard that just because he hasnt had some green in a while turns into some cunt that goes around bitching at everyone and everything for no reason, i've been here long enough for you to know i'm just like that when i'm lean too. Come on dude, I'm not the only one that's stated you've been different on the forums since you quit the green stuff (some may not have said in the forums...). You're much more aggressive than normal. I'm not making it a scapegoat, I'm not suggesting you're dependent on it. But you're certainly different, and this is just on a forum.

I wasn't trying to "rip the shit out you", I was having some light hearted fun in the hope you'd relax a little more. Ban threat was a joke; may have mis-interpreted what you meant with the drunk thing, though not surprising with the unemotional text-based conversations we have to have.

And you really should calm down, you seem highly strung at the moment. If you were a woman, I'd understand; that time of the month, get the jam rags out and so on. That or you have a massive grudge against me because of my (and maybe other's) comments about yourself and/or Jay.

Anyway bedtime for me, try and get some sleep Chrissy, you might wake up a bit calmer in the morning with any luck. Sleep tight, don't let those damn bed bugs bite darling.

I know i've been pretty weird in real life, but i honestly thought i hadn't changed on here, but if a few people have noticed it it must be true, in that case i do apologise.

Suppose i have been taking things to heart a bit the last few days, not just here. And if you actually were joking i'm sorry for just going off on one. To be honest i would say i'm kinda dependent, which is exactly why i've stopped, its fucking me up, a LOT of people have said i'm more aggressive at work and such, and when i was at the pub last night i nearly got into about 3 fights... So yeah, i've taken this the wrong way, sorry for going off on one. Suppose i'm having a harder time than i thought i would with all this. So i'm sorry, i am pretty uptight right now. I seem to be picking fights all the time. And as you said, its hard to interperate what people really mean and when they are joking when it comes down to emotionless text, so its all just a case of misunderstanding, i've calmed down.

This has all escalated from my own rant hasn't it, as soon as Ross posted in the other thread. I thought let's just close it and hope you didn't see it :P It's why I came back now because I just knew what you was gonna post.

In a minute because of our inability to keep things in PM we'll probably both end up getting banned. I do consider people I communicate with friends whether I see them, speak to them, type to them, blink at them, text them, write to them...any form of communication to me between people I get on with is a form of friendship - even if it is a modern form of penpals.

I listen to things most people in this whole fucking country think is fucked up and weird, or even don't know about, when people tell me its stupid or sounds like robots fucking, i don't go hardcore defensive, calm down man. Like all the utter cack you want. I was just letting you know i think its cack, you have some good taste in music so you're forgiven;)

Oh, and its called Emo. Don't ever bother trying to hide the fact its not, its okay to like emo, well... Its not, but each to their own;) "progressive" lol. Best emo cover up i've heard to date.:D

Chris
May 18th, 2008, 03:06
Yeah, I guess some of the music I like would be called emo, I'm not ashamed. But then again, (As I've come to notice) the less loud and repetitive a song is, the more emo it becomes. Also, if there's any ounce of lyrical thought put into a song, it automatically becomes emo. I think this idea is extremely retarded myself.

Just because you listen to a song with a double bass in it doesn't make you hard.

_Chris_
May 18th, 2008, 03:54
Did i say that? Was i even talking about metal when i was referring to my music tastes? I think not.And the whole "the less loud and repetitive a song is, the more emo it becomes. Also, if there's any ounce of lyrical thought put into a song, it automatically becomes emo." is complete bollocks, emo is music that is whiney shit done by whiney arse bands who moan on and on about their lost love, and sound like whiney little bitches. A lot of my music is mellow, lyrics have nothing to do with anger and fighting, and have actual meaning to the lyrics, yet funnily enough... None of its emo. So just because the non shouty cack you like is emo, does NOT make everything that isnt loud and angry emo.

And i never said anything about "being hard because i listen to a song with double bass" youve probably never even heard of a quarter of the shit i listen to on a regular basis, so please don't act like you know. Emo is "popular" thats why so many silly cunts follow the trend, and thats how i can easily comment on it, because its so well known and you can't help but hear the shit, on radio, at work, its just around, making it fucking easy to comment on. My music however, is barely heard of by anyone who doesn't make an effort to go out and find said music. Making it pretty hard to comment on. So before you go with your "blah double bass blah, angry shouting blah, no lyrical thought blah" take some time to actually listen to the stuff i listen to on a regular basis.

Look into things before you come in thinking you know everything, cause funnily enough, you don't know everything. Surprise surprise!

Chris

That's exactly what I'm talking about. You haven't heard 90% of the shit I listen to. No one over 15 listens to the radio/MTV/FUSE/whatever the hell else exists in the mainstream anymore if you happen to be a music head.

I just said what I said because I love these people that judge music from their high horse acting as if what they listen to has any more merit than what I happen to listen to. The radio? really? Come on. Don't tell me you only listen to the stuff corporate tells you to listen to. And if you don't, why would you expect anyone else?

You obviously have no idea what specific radio stations play over here, which is understandable, you don't live here. Bare in mind i also used to hang out in a huge group of alternative people, and a LOT of them were emo, and i couldn't help but hear the cack they listen to. I used to be friends with a lot of emo people, but the more and more they got into the trend the more annoying they got, and i don't mean just the music they listened to and they way they dressed, it just seemed to turn them into complete and utter fools. Please don't try and tell me i don't know what emo is when i used to know lots and lots of emo's who never ceased to go on about their bands all the god damn time. Yeah i don't know half the shit YOU listen to, i'm going on emo people in general, not YOU. Same as when you try to rip on my music, you should try say things about industrial, EBM and such as a whole, not just try say the metal i listen to is all pure shite, cause i barely even listen to much metal anymore anyway. I was talking about emo as a whole and you try to come down on my personal music tastes. Hmmm?

Anyway, bored of this now.

Bleach22
May 18th, 2008, 16:56
I wasn't saying you didn't know what emo was. I was just saying you can't label prog and alternative as emo, or even the majority of it being emo.

And Chris, (Not _Chris_, i'm going by usernames here) you most likely listen to a lot of mainstream so don't go on like you listen to shitloads of neo-punk and think it liberates you because you listen to underground bands. I have a lot of friends like that who go on about all mainstream being shit and tbh it's VERY annoying.

Plus, there's thousands and thousands or radio stations and music channels over here. I flick over to Scuzz to see whats on now and again when i'm bored, and sometimes I listen to this Death Metal radio station on the internet. So you can't say that the 'corporate' tells me to listen to that when it doesn't at all, I listen to whatever I like.

my suggestion is never turn on the radio unless your in work or tripping balls and want a laugh, completely ignore anything on bbc or channel 4 or mtv, completely ignore anyone with skinny jeans and stupid hair (especially if they have a fedora), buy a sam cooke/the meters/caetano veloso vinyl (not cd) and play it while getting baked.

This is the other issue I have with music. You have no idea on my music preferences, yet you try and recommend me stuff that I will definitely like, just because you do.

That's nothing personal towards you, people do it the world over, and never understand that I'll listen to what I like. I know what I like, I know what I don't like. you really are a smartarse aintcha? im not trying to recommend you something, i AM recommending you something, and giving you sound advice since you sounded dissatisfied with the music youre hearing. im recommending you "proper" music that is incredibly hard not to like, stuff that instills feelings that most crap doesnt come near to capturing and trying to be nice to ya. i wont bother in future..

Can you not read? I said in my post that it wasn't aimed at you specifically. I don't want recommendations on what you think will make me alive inside. Music affects people in different ways, and that shit you just recommended me is horrible. I hit up YouTube for Sam Cooke and Meters, and it's all jazzy shit that would never see the light of day on my Zune.

That's why I said I hate it when PEOPLE IN GENERAL recommend stuff for others because "they have to love it". No I fucking don't have to love it, IMO Sam Cooke is shit and does nothing for me inside. That's also why i said I have no problem with recommendations when I ask for one, as I'd say "Can anyone recommend me some classic Hip-Hop tunes". I'd be specific to what I want to listen to, and if you're still obnoxious enough to recommend a different genre altogether then you really are a prick (again not aimed at you Nayse; generally speaking).

Please stop acting as if my opinion on music is wrong. It isn't. Neither is yours. I shall continue to hate music as I please, regardless of whether it pisses you off or not, just don't be so ignorant next time and accept my views.

I think GCSE's should be banned... they do not determine any kind of academical future for yourself what so ever. They should be teaching you at school that it is only hard work and an eye for opportunity that gets you ahead in this world. In fact sometimes I think it is just luck...whatever will be will be, but 14 - 19 year olds are being brainwashed into thinking it is about the benefit of their future when in fact it is not - it's all about the schools and teaching performance where results determine how much funding they can nab of the local council.

i saw the point of it, but it wasnt a decent representation of the conversation.
you could call is bias if you like, i would call it 'taste', something that transcends personal preference, opinion, culture and status. you could think of this as sociologically snobbish- but i bet youd agree that a mcdonalds meal or a britney spears record (or eating a mcdonalds while listening to britney spears) isnt in good taste..

definately get some gcses under ya belt, get maths and english most importantly but science and geography are useful as well. useful in terms of a CV, not in terms of reality though. thats the kicker. you could get all As and still be a dismal idiot, unfortunately thats the crappy system that we have.

I found this comment in my GTA IV feature slightly perplexing:

Originally posted by Tater:

Since when does 10/10 mean something isn’t perfect? When I was in school a 10/10 always meant I had earned a perfect score. So what does a perfect game get a 12/10? Why do just about all reviewers now deem a 7/10 as an average score? A 7/10 should mean its a good game, above average and worth a rent or purchase of a cheap used copy. A 5/10 should be an average score. Personally I gave the game a 8.5/10. It’s a very good game, but it didn’t bring anything new to the sandbox genre.

I always thought that in the gaming world, it was known that ten out of ten doesn't mean the game is perfect. How can a game be perfect? It's a very subjective thing, and not everyone will agree.

A ten out of ten at school is entirely different, as that is based on ten questions and which of those questions you got right; totally objective, and a ten out of ten of course means perfect, since you can't improve on a right answer.

Does anyone else on here not understand review scoring, or is it just this one commenter? Just wondered what you all thought on the whole scoring thing really.

I wonder if there can be such a thing as a perfect game. Apparently, there is such a thing as a perfect movie, that being The Godfather (http://www.metacritic.com/video/titles/godfather).

I suppose in video games, it is easier to scrutinize a game's flaws, no matter how small or far between.

JasonA
May 21st, 2008, 20:32
I don't think there will ever be 'THE' perfect game, but Im guessing something that is continuing and neverending that changes every single day you play.

For me the perfect game would be an interactive online world/city where you could do things like join an army and fight battles to control other peoples land...and maybe other people could join the game as civilians and have to do things like go to work and build things...some people form gangs, other fight gangs... like sims/cod/gta/ all rolled into one... and eventually your character just gets old and dies

edit... see now all the forum librarians will want to rush out and create a thread called 'Your pefect game' * YAWN

Apparently, there is such a thing as a perfect movie, that being The Godfather (http://www.metacritic.com/video/titles/godfather).

A timeless classic, capturing a developing immigrant culture in a foreign land, while exposing the flaws and complexities of real people, who though 'bad' in their actions, are good at heart and share many of our own dreams, hopes and insecurities. At the same time, the first film(s) accurately portrays a (plausable) realistic look at the art/style/deco of the times, spanning the decades of the 1900's-1980's.

but to be clear, the third one was shit.
Lick my balls Joey Zaza. Lick 'em good.

EDIT: read the book. The movie is flawless, until compared to the original work. Like most times, the book wins.

Sorry to hear about the trouble Jay.

To all of the Europeans on this forum, happy RockBand Week! Waiting 6 months isn't THAT long is it? :X:9~

Hope you enjoy the game.

It's cool - at least I will get my coach money returned as well. Typical though that it just couldn't happen any other day than today...

I can't get it, not at that price. I'm sure it's oodles of fun not unlike another recent release, but it's way too expensive for me.

I could afford Rock Band, but I refuse to pay ridiculous, inflated prices simply on principle. I'm still reeling from the SE of GTA IV that turned out to be less great than I thought.

Let me try two different examples.

1. The next sandbox game is released and reviewed. This game is better than GTA IV. Since the condition for being rated a 10/10 has the clause, "but at the time of writing", the review is only technically valid until a new game of this genre is released and recieves a 10/10. After that time the score has lost all relevance.

2. I release a game that invents a new genre and you review it. Since it's the only game in that genre does it get a 10/10? It is the best game in it's genre, but it has horrendous gameplay. Does that mean it gets a 3/10? Can a game recieve two reivew scores from one review?

Please note that while my examples may exagerate a bit, I am exagerating to prove a point.

Does anyone else on here not understand review scoring, or is it just this one commenter? Just wondered what you all thought on the whole scoring thing really.

I fail to see how you came to the conclusion that I do "not understand review scoring". I am simply disagreeing with Xboxic's review scoring. I'm not trying to say it is wrong or baseless, but I am viewing a 10/10 differently from this web site. I would like for people to be able to take my review scores in five years and have them know whether GTA IV or its successor was better. The next GTA could be miles ahead of the current version or it could be marginally better, how is someone going to know if both receive a 10/10? I grade on an absolue scale, Xboxic doesn't.

So say you gave GTA:IV a 9/10. What if GTA: V is better than only 1 extra point? This argument can go in circles for ages. Should all games be 1/10 so it gives 10 chances to be better in the future? No. It shouldn't.

Wow you came and joined the forums. Good job, nice to have you here. Now I shall answer you as best I can.

After that time the score has lost all relevance.

One of the many problems with reviewing by numbers is that people often don't read the actual text. With your scoring system, people will likely just scroll to the bottom and check out the scores, then compare. Should GTA V score 10/10, which is what I would have scored GTA IV (as I said in the feature before people whinge), then readers would actually have to read both reviews to see which is better. If I stated in the conclusion "GTA V goes leaps and bounds beyond GTA IV", people will look back and check out the review of GTA IV and actually read it.

2. I release a game that invents a new genre and you review it. Since it's the only game in that genre does it get a 10/10? It is the best game in it's genre, but it has horrendous gameplay. Does that mean it gets a 3/10? Can a game recieve two reivew scores from one review?

This is slightly confusing. From a personal experience, I don't immediately look to compare a game to something similar. I of course do, but that's not my initial reaction; I like to look at the game for what it is. Regardless of genre, if the game is shit, the game is shit, unique genre or not. You can have awful genres ya know.

And this brings me back full-circle to what I said at the start. People will just compare the numbers because of your absolute scale, meaning they likely do not read the reviews you right. Based on what you are saying, how can a 9.9 (oh and ".9" scores, seriously?) be different from a full blown 10? Why do you have 10 on the scale when you admit yourself that it cannot be used? It's ridiculous that .1 of a difference separates a "perfect" game from a "perfect-but-flawed" game.

Reviews are subjective, you are trying to treat them as fact. FACT, you cannot have the perfect game. Well yes, we all know that, hence why, when a 10/10 is given in the videogame world, you know that it has to be a pretty damn remarkable game to earn such a score. It's likely the best game out at the moment, now's the time to take a look at it. If you stack up a load of 9.9 games it becomes meaningless and everyone will wonder why they never get a 10.

Hopefully when readers see a 10 on our site, they know this is the game of the moment, something that cannot be missed out on (right readers?!). With you handing out 9.9s for the best games at the current time, it makes you look like a stingy bastard with stupidly high standards. I know which review method I prefer.

He was talking to more than one person though; he was talking to multiple people that suck cocks, therefore he was addressing cocksuckers.

Thanks. Normally I try to avoid signing up for as many things as possible, but when you're asked to join to have a discussion with someone, I find it hard to refuse.

That's true that people will be able to scroll to the bottom and just check the numerical value I rated the game. I think its a good idea how you incorperated your score into your GTA IV review (as text inplace of a fraction and in the middle of the review). It's going to force people who are looking for a number to read at least half of what you spent your time writing. But if "people often don't read the actual text" how can you expect them to read two reviews to determine which is better?

This is slightly confusing. From a personal experience, I don't immediately look to compare a game to something similar. I of course do, but that's not my initial reaction; I like to look at the game for what it is. Regardless of genre, if the game is shit, the game is shit, unique genre or not. You can have awful genres ya know.

I'll try to clear up what I was saying. The Xboxic description of a 10/10 is as follows.

"10. Excellent: As close to perfection as can currently be. It may be surpassed by later products, but at the time of writing it was king of the hill. Spend your dough now.

Note that we do not reserve the highest mark for 'perfection'. Perfection doesn't exist, and especially in fast-moving technology a perfect product may already be surpassed next week. We can rate 10, and it would mean there's no better product on the market in its niche at that very moment. We could very well give another 10 the month after to another product that is just slightly better again."
Retrieved from "http://wiki.xboxic.com/Xboxic:Scoring"

If a new niche is created then a game would fit the description of a 10. But if the game was not very good it might also fit into a different rating. So how would a game like this be judged?

And this brings me back full-circle to what I said at the start. People will just compare the numbers because of your absolute scale, meaning they likely do not read the reviews you right. Based on what you are saying, how can a 9.9 (oh and ".9" scores, seriously?) be different from a full blown 10? Why do you have 10 on the scale when you admit yourself that it cannot be used? With you handing out 9.9s for the best games at the current time, it makes you look like a stingy bastard with stupidly high standards. I know which review method I prefer.

My review score of a 9.9 is not given out to the best games at the current time. I would give a game a 9.9 if it was all but perfect which is highly improbable and therefore will rarely, if ever, be given out (but is theoretically possible). I am trying to rate the games on an absolute scale which would neglect time. So if I reviewed GTA IV now and gave it an 8.5/10, I should also be able to review it in 20 years and still give it an 8.5/10.

An example would be PONG. When PONG came out it was fairly revolutionary. It used position of the paddle as well as the trajectory of the ball to determine the new trajectory of the ball. This was a milestone in game physics. Now between the way we both rate a game PONG would recieve considerably different scores today. Where I would probably rate it an 8.5, you (or another Xboxic reviewer) as I believe would rate it closer to 5 or 6. Neither one of us is wrong, we are merely rating these games on a different scale.

I do have high standards. I don't see this as a bad thing though. If people didn't have high standards we'd all be playing crap. While my standards may be higher than some, they are certainly not out of reach. I believe in the aim high, miss high kind of life.
