View Full Version : Table Tennis Addictions ?

There is not even a week of this game out yet and the first impressions
couldn't have been more varied.

While some people hate it, others confess their love.

If anyone out there owns that game I would very much like to hear
their hands down impressions from the real buyer's point of view
and not some "professional" fancy reviews.

Is it worth the purchase ? Is it addictive as promised ?
Although Rockstar is a solid gaming company with good reputation and some outstanding titles out so far,
never before had the company tried to make such a turning to Sport Games.
I dont know how successfully GTA can be transformed to table tennis :P

If any of you has the game , please do step forward and share some feedback.

Great little game, haven't had any online lag problems. There's some really good standards of players online, my biggest rally so far is about 150 shots. And it's got a nice community too, I've added several new people to my Friends List through playing Table Tennis, they're a good bunch.

AI is rock-hard on the third & fourth tournaments, so you won't be able to just play through the whole singleplayer in one night.

Not much depth to it at all though (most of the Achievements require you to just play through the same tourneys over and over again), if it was a full-price title it would probably get slated for that reason, but as it's only £30 then I'm not bothered.

And yes, it's much better than the Pool minigame in San Andreas ;)

As for the addiction... check out my gamerpic below...

When I first heard Rockstar was working on this I thought it was a joke, how can you go from games like GTA, State of Emergency, etc. to this? But after playing the game you're hooked.

I think most of the replay value will come from online play or playing with a friend at home, but the single player game isn't bad at all. Just like Studley said it does get hard after you finish the second tournament, but it does help you in the long run, especially if you like to play online, because some of those guys are good.

Spot on. When I first went online, I was getting thrashed. Then I played through the singleplayer until I couldn't beat the AI any more. Then I went back online and was a good match for most people. Then I went offline again, and all that practice against good opponents allowed me to beat the AI ;)

Today I've just received my own copy of Table Tennis from PLAY.com

It took 4 days to arrive ( I Live in Athens/Greece) but I got to tell you
and trust me for saying it pays for every minute of waiting.
Its that addictive.

Although the controls are quite simple, it takes quite some time to
get used to. Once you do , you can focus on the gameplay which is
at least plain sweetness !

In addition the player needs to start fresh and alert before takes the decision
to start a match. You cant play the game casually like other arcades
(see uno) if you are tired, or lacking sleep.

The game really requires rapid reflexes and hand-eye combination if there's gonna be a chance to win.

The Downside of the game ?
Well... Not many players to choose from, not many stadiums to play,
Not deep Single player campaign either and finally not many soundtracks
to listen to (but fear not for the user custom soundtracks come to the rescue !)

All in all, the game is a must-have classic collection piece.

get out and grab yourself a copy now !! ;-)

Biggest waste of $40 for me. I spent between 3-4 hours playing it and still sucked. I'm sure it really is a good game for people that are wired right for playing it. I just can't hit the buttons I need to in time.

That's why I mentioned "REFLEXES" and ALERTNESS in my previous reply.

I just can't hit the buttons I need to in time. What buttons? The colored buttons are just impractical aliases for the right stick. All you need are the 2 sticks and the bumpers in practice.

I did even better, I walked into Game and was ready to pay the £30 cover price, when the guy at the till told me that I had £23 on my reward card (presumably from when I bought my 360), so I got it for £6.99 8)

Valsam, I still didn't get the "win 3 games in a row" achievement :( After beating you twice, I lost my next game in a tie-break, I think the computer rigs it :(

Chris

It matters what color around the ball is. Blue = X, Yellow = Y etc.

Actually my normally extremely good SD-TV was also having problems with that. I think the colored surrounding are merely 1 pixel and get filtered out by SD downscaling most of the time.... training was easy but the one where you have to return with the same spin was just killing me cause I simply couldn't see in time what kind of spin I was getting.

Picked up my copy at the store today. Slapped it in my 360 (at sevenish) to give it a quick spin, but oh boy was I mistaken with the word quick :D
Before I new it I was playing like Forrest Gump and the clock showed eleven. addictive?? neh! ;)

What a game.. In tournement I couldn't get past the French croissott. I was so pissed, I was shouting words that I did not know exsist but finally finnished him off with a duece rally :9~

Now this biatch from brasil (who looks like she didn't had a brazilian wax lately) enters the stage and kicked my ass so hard it started to bleed :X Enyone have any tips for me regarding this spawn from hell?? >:)

I was on FIRE earlier 8) Got the "3 Live wins in a row" and "4 Live wins in a row" achievements, lost out on the "5 in a row" in a tiebreak.

Won 11 Lost 10 so far. Most of those 10 losses were to Jesper, who makes me shout very rude words at the telly :-(
