View Full Version : The Duke kicking @ss in 2007?

Just read this rumor. Hope this is true \o/
Take Two has announced that it incurred a 50.2 million dollar loss in Q2 of this year but the company still seems to be backing a "winner" as it promised 3D Realms USD 500,000 if it delivers Duke Nukem Forever before December 31st 2006.
Take Two's earnings announcement makes no mention of the game but a 10-Q filing the company issued to the Security and Exchange Commission confirms that new negotiations between Take 2 Games and 3D Realms, regarding DNF, took place this March. The result was a change in the initial arrangement which called for a USD 6 million payment to the Texas based developer for the game. 3D Realms will, instead, receive just over USD 4,000 once the game is ready although we are certain that there is more to that deal.
The USD 500,000 bonus however, is unlikely to change current plans by 3D Realms, a company that has been toiling over DNF since 1997. Since there was no mention of the game during E3 2006 and 3D Realms is sticking to its When It's Done quote, we can only assume that the game will surface at some point in 2007. Duke Nukem Forever will be released for PC with an XBox 360 version rumored to be in development too.

Yeah, lost interest, but $500,000 is a lot of money for a game that may end up being like DOOM!

Have 3DRealms been working on anything else lately? I get the feeling that there's a real danger they'll rush the game out by the end of 2007, just to get their hands on that cash. Not that you can really accuse them of "rushing" anything that's taken ten years so far...

Still, Duke Nukem Whenever, I dont expect it will be all that good. When there saying there still working on it for so long, I somehow get the picture in my head they have one guy as a development team, locked up in the basement who hasn't seen daylight in years.

Duke 3D was already playable in 640x480, and even 800x600 if i remember. I believe some fans created a windows launcher or something to play it in even higher resolutions and with decent network support. If you google around you'll easily find it, but you still need the original .grp file though.

But I want it on my 360 ;( I have no PC. Have to go to the library to visit xboxic. I'm very poor and live in a box. ;) Besides, the PC doesn't give me the comfort of my couch and wireless controller and my sony bravia screenie..
I'll wait for the 360 version :D Even if this means I'll have to wait 'forever'..

lol, thats sarcasm,
they know 3d realism aint comming with DNF this year so they tell them they WILL get 500.000 when they do. I can do that!
If the PS3 is coming before the end of this month I'll give all my posessions to sony!

"As for the 500k completion bonus, I don't even know were that came from," said the outspoken executive. "I do know that we never cared or asked for it, and I think it was just tossed in as part of some other agreement. We're certainly not motivated by that amount of money, after all this time, and getting the game right is what matters. I would never ship a game early (even a couple of months), for 500k."
Broussard went on to outline the current status of Duke Nukem Forever. "Our deal is simple," he said. "We're making the game. It'll be done when it's done. We've funded 99.999% of the game (aside from a very, very small advance from GT Interactive, years ago, before Take 2 bought the game from them). It's our risk, our necks and our gamble. Under the deal we should be earning royalties from about unit 30,000 or so (that's a real small number)."

Their necks on the line.... sure as hell, I'm not buying Duke Nukem Whenever when it comes out. There's more than enough games that were designed in the 21st century :)

So you're not buying Street Fighter, Pac-Man, Rootbeer tapper etc? Because they are also from the previous century ;) Nevertheless they're all good games... so if the Duke comes with a good game, I'll buy it. Don't care about the allmost 10 years of development. Let's just hope it's no daikatana ;)

Ment to be a 'In-game' screen capture of the game.
BlimBlim (basically the media sister site of Xboxic - well, that's what I call it) was contacted by 3D Realms asking for 'HD Capturing equip.' People believe he getting video of it, but no-one knows really.

It seems to be about the same thing that went on with prey, given duke nukem has been a longer time coming, but prey was being developed before 98 and it came out on 360 last year and i think it looked great and played well for being in production for so long.
Studley
January 27th, 2007, 02:15
Yeah but what can Duke seriously do that can break the mould? Prey at least had portal technology which made it interesting even though the plot was shit... Duke will probably just have big weapons and some half-interesting set pieces, a la Half-Life 2, but won't have much original.
I'd much rather they put some effort into getting multiplayer Duke 3D on the marketplace tbh ;)

Another year, another bout of DNF speculation. The game has been through more engines than Michael Schumaker(?). I reached the rather indecisive decision a while ago that it will either be astounding or a waste of a decade.
I also often wondered if they got 5 years in and thought fuck it we've past the point of no return and ploughed on for a laugh. Obviously 3dR have been distracted with other projects along the way. So just how does work on DNF manifest? Do they work on it daily?, weekly? one person?, ten? even if its only one person daily most of the time(unlikely but..) thats an incredible amount of man hours all told. Well 07 could be Dukes year...It could also be the Phantom's too.

LMAO to that quote. Quality kobe.
As for the game it will just not be great. Anything thats taken this long is destined to be mediocre at the very best, or it would of been released already. They just can't make it a good game which is why it's called Forever as in 'Forever in production'.

I knew the decision to use Chinese Democracy as the soundtrack for this game was a big mistake from the start. Bad 3-D Realms, Bad Axel Rose.
