Hi,
I just put myself in a stupid situation.
Initially, I had no way to connect my Xbox 360 to the Internet, so I created a profile name Pierre (seems logical for someone named Pierre) and played and played and played (well not so much)
Then, knewing I would connect to box to live, I created a gamertag and linked it to my MS passport. Of course, Pierre was already taken so I created a gamertag (Debarstein).
Then when joining live with my box, I was able to recover my gamertag.
Result, I have two profiles on my box:
- Pierre (HDD)
- Debarstein (HDD Live)
Pierre has all achievements and save game.
Debarstein has nothing
So is there any way to have only one profile by merging those or do I have to begin from start playing with my gamertag, reaching a second time the same achievements and losing my saved game?
Thanks for you advices
Pierre

I think you're screwed. There is no way to join 2 accounts or transfer achievements.. You prob. have to replay all your games. Sounds like fun;)

There is a way. You can delete Debarstein from your hard drive, and contact MS to rename your Pierre account to Debarstein. I think you'll have to cough up some dough for that though.

400 MS points. BUt then you have the problem that the name Debarstein has also already been registered.

Or without contacting MS, rename your Debarstein live account to "DamnIscrewedup" or whatever and then rename Pierre to Debarstein and recover gamer tag, as such getting automatic 1 month free Gold again I think.
On the other hand, give support a call. That's what they're there for: giving support :P

Thanks for the quick answer.
What I wonder is what have most people done?
Directly connect the box to the internet before playing any game or first playing offline like I have done?
If people have first used an offline profile, did they get a second profile when joining live?
Well, I will just have to play again:
DOA4
PGR3
Halo2
Oblivion (aargh, hopefully I am not that far in the game)

Uh on December 2nd I think I had it connected to Live at about 9:30am, 30 minutes after the store opened :P I had already claimed my gamertag online as well though.

Hehe,
Here what I have tried this morning:
- delete debarstein (the online gamertag) from my HDD (with saved games...)
- rename pierre to debarstein
- select join live
- received a warning telling me that my session must be closed
- than received a prompt telling me debarstein is already used
- select recover gamertag
- enter my e-mail and password
result... two profiles on the box
Surely calling support is a good idea but I feel that they are surely closed when I reach home :)

Don't know where you're from, assuming Belgium based on your IP, but I just checked NL, BE and UK support pages and they all state the same:
Hours of operation:
Monday-Friday: 09:00-22:00
Saturday: 09:00-20:00
Sunday: 09:00-17:00
This link should go right to the correct one for your region: http://www.xbox.com/support/contact/ :)

Well I have to say this is realy a supportive forum.
So here is what I will do: call support this week (surely friday) as indeed I live in Belgium (but my IP is not my IP but of an entity which pays me every month but prohibit me from viewing the xbox web site, so thanks for the checks on the official web site)
And then give feedback here (well we know that 99% of the time when people wrote this they do not do it. I will try to be in the 1%)
Thanks for all the help (but do not refrain from posting if you have other ideas)
PS: percentage are only indicative of my own experience and do not concist in any way in a scientific view... blah blah blah 8)7

You could change Pierre to xXPierreXx or P13rr3 or PieRRe... And just delette the other. And you always need a couple of BS email addresses.

Well my problem is solved after calling the support team. The support was efficient but the operator insisted in given me the call number and taking an other person on the line instead of waiting for me to do the procedure they advise me to follow. I understand they are under pressure to take as many call as possible but when explaining a procedure they should offer to help the person step by step.
So the mistake was that I have created a gamertag on the Internet and not by using to use the console. Here is the procedure used to solve the problem.
1) to forget about Debarstein and consider this gamertag as lost for the cause _o_ (well I didn't care for the name)
2) to rename my offline profile (Pierre) and of course select a name not already used as a gamertag (this time Wirbowsky)
3) go to the live blade
4) select live. Ensure it says the gamertag is not already taken.
5) create a new passport to an existing e-mail address (no problem i also have too many of those). Of course I can not reuse the same passport as before as it is already linked to a gamertag.
6) enter address, age...
By following this, my new gamertag is now Wirbowsky and has my saved games and achievements. I even received a prompt telling me I have a free month of "Gold". I have feared this would be disabled because the free month was also given to Debarstein
I think my error came from the following misunderstanding. I understood that profile on the Xbox and gamertag were two different things which could be combined in the following ways:
a) create an offline profile on the Xbox and so no gamertag is created. You can then choose any name even if it is already used by other people as gamertag as you are offline
b) create an online profile and a gamertag on the Xbox. This time the name must be unique
c) create a gamertag direclty on the Internet and no profile is created.
A & B were right.
C is wrong.
My current understanding is that hhen creating a gamertag on the internet you also create an empty profile (no game played, no score, no achievements...).
So when selecting the option recover gamertag. You recover a complete profile. I believed this option would link my offline profile to my gamertag. The result was I was able to have two profiles on my Xbox with the same name:
Debarstein (HDD live): the empty profile and the gamertag
Debarstein (HDD): the profile with saved games
What I wonder now is why Microsoft proposes you in the documentation to go to the xbox web site to sign in to live when the support tell you it should be done from the console.
Any way, thanks for your help.
I hope this post will help other people not losing their saved games.
