Ive got the opportunity to purchase Quake 4 for £20 later today, I was wondering if any of you owned it and whether you would recommend it?
Ive heard it has some frame rate issues.
Also what do you think of Quake 2 that comes with it? Has it been remade for the 360 with upgraded graphics etc?

Three words: try the demo. It's on the Marketplace and according to many people representative for the full game.
I played Q4 on my laptop for a bit, and it was running quite smooth on a Geforce6800 Go on 1600x1200. The demo on my fresh 360, sporting about 5 times as many horse powers under its hood, was a slideshow in comparison with bad lip sync and framebumps everywhere.
Simple fact of life: Q4 is an OpenGL game, one of few on the PC nowadays where everything is DirectX. The 360's graphic subsystem is based on DirectX completely. So, they had to port an OpenGL graphics layer to DirectX and rush it in time for the console's launch... needless to say they could've used some more time for a decent port.
Try the demo. If you find that acceptable, by all means buy it.

Thanks for the reply unfortunately I'm at work today so am unable to try the demo, the guy selling it is a collegue and asked me today at work if I would like to buy it from him before he puts it on eBay later tonight.
I suppose I should question a bit more why he's selling it really but to be fair he said its because he completed it with most of the acheivements.

My god. Dont buy that game. It is such a terrible game. Dont even bother to play it online. You can only select the type of MP game you want to play, it connects to the first game it can find. When you connect to this game it will only start after five minutes or when all playerslots are full. This usually means you have to wait a few minuten after you can finally start. And the when the game is done, you are automaticly disconnected from the server :(
This is the only 360 game I feel sorry about buying

Well you've got it on your recent games list now... what do you think? (Out of interest, where did you find it for twenty quid?)
Personally I'm like Curry, I played the demo and barely made it inside the first building before I got a bit bored. Mind you, I didn't really like Doom 3 either. I'm beginning to find all of those claustrophobic big-gun FPS's a bit samey. It's the same reason why I'm not particularly bothered about the forthcoming Prey demo.
Mind you, I didn't know Q4 came with a port of the godlike Q2 :o Is it Live-enabled? Is it a decent port?

Comparing the zillionth space shooter to Prey with its organic guns, gravityswitching and portals seems kind of unfair to Prey :)

Yeah I decided to go for it and buy the game as £20. As mentioned earlier in the thread, a friend at work was selling it as he had finished it and pretty much got all the acheivements.
I quite like it and was pleasantly suprised, I think I build myself up to think it was really bad, ok there is an issue with the framerate but I can live with that. They only annoying thing is that its quite unstable and crashes often.
Quuake 2 that comes free with Q4 is cool, its funny when you play Q4 then put Q2 on afterwards, the difference in speed and framerate is massive, Q2 is really smooth and fast. Great for some old school action. Its very difficult to find your way around though :o .
As for Q2 being Live! enabled, I know its got multiplayer options but I didnt explore them, just had a quick single player blast.
Does anyone else know if Q2 is setup for Live!?

Well you're lucky I think :) I recommended the demo because it's essentially a good game, but my PC experiences caused major disappointment with the 360 port of the game. If that part doesn't bother you I can absolutely understand that it's a great game :)
