I cant say i blame him negatively for it. Alot of people were not properly handling their criticism. It almost became a list of random profanity. It sad to see that part of the xbox live experience gone, but he did warn people. Truth be told it was probably also making the xbox team look bad to potential buyers who might come onto his site to check out the community. Too bad really. You guys do a great job here, i hope the idiot trolls dont migrate. Criticisms are one thing, but flat out verbal abuse is another. Do you guys think he should have closed them down?
edit: i just checked his site again, and its not even online. perhaps he is changing it to allow registered users.

Yeah I've been wondering how long Major was going to put up with it. I remember the situation from 2 years ago with IEBlog which was nearly identical. The IE development team was playing open on their efforts with IE7, about what they were going to achieve, not going to achieve, and what they hoped to do. Every post some Linux hippies would come along and spam heaps of bullshit like "M$ si teh sux0r Fierfoks for teh win!!111". It became a sport for the average Slashdot to take a piss at the IE team for no clear reason whatsoever, and it seems same thing has happened to Nelson now: it was mostly just random abuse from idiots, not even "competition fanboys", but real idiots. Because anonymously wrecking a website is even cooler than anonymously wrecking somebody else's car.
I pity the fools, and the ones that have to clean up their mess.
We get some trolling here but usually we just let the comment community do its job by flaming them down, or we join in ourselves. And I regularly banhammer some fuckers :+

Hmm, I think the comment system may be back up. Too be honest I've only found 1% or less of the comments to be useful or informative. More often then not you just see people making the same comment as the person above them, they don't read through to see if their point was made already.
Lazy bored Trolls :|

Those comments are pretty annoying and I was wondering how long it would be until he just closed it. It's a pity.

well, they are back on, and it seems to not have so many trolls on it. could also be because alot of content came out at the end of last week as well. but i think he should make it registered users. so if they do that u can ban them somehow.

Can I ever verify something without getting that response? :z

I check Major Nelson's site everyday, but never read the comments. The comments on his site are worthless IMHO. You look at comments for a picture pack and every other comment is threatening someone's life becaue the Prey demo isn't available.
Nobody ever seems to comment on what the actual topic is.
