So I had a 360 with a Toshiba/Samsung drive. As I am not into playing illegal copies, I was just happy having it for the less noise the drive makes. But anyhow, I can imagine there are some people around here that are glad with their T/S drive instead of having a Hitachi for all the backups reading problems.

Anyhow, my 360 got bricked by my girfriend which let the 360 in a special case dropped on the street while we were on a holiday (yep it goes with me ), so she never may hold my baby again you can imagine that. Well, that was not all, it was still working afterwards, buy my father managed to take the electricity out when we were at another holiday in France where I was playing my 360. So I got three red lights, sometimes the 360 worked, sometimes not.

HAD to send it back. So what I did: I made a really nice letter in German stating that if I would get a 360 with a Hitachi drive back, I would sell it immediately and MS would loose a customer for sure. I didn't want a plane trying to take off sitting beside my HDTV when I watch a movie or play a game

Guess what. Got the 360 back today with a T/S drive again. Me happy. For you all with the same problem (when your drive is going to Germany to get repaired) make a nice German letter (or if it's shipped elsewhere in that language ofcourse). I bet it helped. I had to wait for 14 days, but it's worth it :)

If you got a Hitachi drive now, just state you think it's too loud and ask for a T/S drive maybe that works also.

Could be a winning situation when you have to let your baby getting repaired right! For your backups also, as I heard the Hitachi has some problems accepting media

Play fair, play original

And use backups to don't scratch those originals
Keep them buying, that's the only way to let this format win the war against the PSZero and keep the new and good games coming!

Oh yeah, besides writing the letter in German, I have also made the employee @ the heldesk centre make the same comment in their internal system, that it was nescessary to get a T/S dvd model back. I said when I buy a Ferrari with a Ferrari motor in it, which has a nice sound to it, it then has some problems. Leave the car for service, get it back and find a noise coming from the motor and suddenly it only drives 150 km p/h and not the 270 km p/h anymore. Then I see that they gave me the car back with a Fiat motor in it I wouldn't be a customer also. Well, the employee could understand that metaforic story better then the difference in drives which the person had no knowledge of ;)

I thought, I should share this with you

I think they completely ignored your letter and you had a 50/50 chance that turned out right ;)

Ofcourse that could be like that. Let's say it won't do any harm for the person that looks after the whole proces and the one actually repairing the box/changing it for a new one to know ones preferences.

I mean, MS is service-minded in this. If they loose a customer because he doesn't want a plane taking off besides the TV because they'll loose a customer over that I think you hit the weak point with them. Every console sold extra over the upcoming PSZero counts.

And as far as my knowledge goes, there are more Hitachi DVD 360's around then Toshiba/Samsung ones. So the change of getting a different one then the T/S is larger then one should expect probably.

Anyhow, I'm happy. The production date of my first 360 was the end of 2005. Now I own one of 23 March 2006. Newer, it is a new one also not repaired one from somebody else, with stickers and all on there.

No one may touch it again, especially not my girlfriend and I get every key of a electricitycloset anywhere my 360 is standing nowadays :)

Furthermore, it took 14 days to get back. From other people I heard mostly they have one between 5 to 10 days. Maybe they had to wait on a T/S model before they could send back to me. We'll never know. I know one thing: I wait some time before I would do a FW hack for backups of originals or if a modchip would come available. Again, all for homebrew and unlocked Media Center/backups from originals. Just to test this 360 to the max without any strange things the coming time
