That looked like being one of the first truly original games in a long long time, but I've not heard (hah!) anything about it for absolutely ages.

Anyone got any news on it?

When I think Metronome, sadly, I think of Clefairy... Original as in launch title?

It was a European developed game (French I think) due to come out in the Summer initially, although it's probably slipped, if it still exists at all.

Basic jist of the game was that your character had a sort of ghostbusters-style backback (almost like Luigi's Mansion) but instead of ghosts, it sucked up sounds, which you could then use to get through things.

For example, sample a gentle, rhythmical sound and use it to lull a monster to sleep and pass it, or alternatively sample a big scary sound and use it to scare the monster off. Or use a sound to vibrate the big rock above the monster until it falls on its head.

That sort of thing. But it also, supposedly, had a feature to allow you to utilise your custom soundtracks as samples rather than background music. Imagine being able to scare off a monster because you're playing some Anthrax at it...

The problem was, it was an independant studio developing it, and I don't know if they managed to find a publisher - which is a damn shame if true.

That's why I was wondering what happened to it :)

Which proves it exists, and I wasn't imagining it!

And here's a brief slurp of info from IGN for the PC version:

Nope - hence me starting this topic in the first place! ;)

It does seem like it could be one of the most original games in years if done correctly, and I like the graphical style (reminds me of a cross between Dark City and The Nightmare Before Christmas), so I hope it doesn't end up consigned to the bin like Frame City Killer...

there was an article about it in xbox magazine a while back, i have it somewhere, it said absolutely nothing about the gameplay and only very little about the premise of the game. to be honest, it was a very dull article.

Actual game, mate.

I looked in my local indie gaming shop and they have it slated for release on September 1st, so here's hoping!

Well, it still seems to be coming out, just a little later than I thought!

I still think it has potential to be brilliant :)

The only reason I know about this game is that I read an article on it in the OXM back in December 2005. Haven't heard/read anything about the game ever since :(.

I haven't heard of this either. Then again, I'm not a magazine person.

I hope they pull this off, it would be nice to play a original game for once.

Fingers crossed.
