View Full Version : Dilemma

Now, for some reason Microsoft left all their true next generation games untill two months away with Dead Rising being the first.

Question is, what games to get, because they left them till the last 3 months of the year. many of them come out within weeks of each other.

Here it goes for the UK:

1) Dead Rising (08 September 2006) VS. Splinter Cell 4: Double Agent(29 September 2006)

2) Gears Of War (03 November 2006) VS. Alan Wake (24 November 2006) VS. F.E.A.R (24 November 2006) VS Half-life 2 Ep.1+Ep2 and others. (TBA release 2006.)

From each llist (1+2) you can only choose one game... what would you get and why?

The reason I said one is because I have no job and still awaiting my GCSE results to come in, so I have no money.

What about saints row? You can't just say it's not worth buying until you've played it.

1)
Dead Rising looks like a lot of fun, super funny good times fun... but at the end of the day it's a button masher with attitude. Splinter Cell games are outstanding and I expect nothing less than Excellent in this latest Iteration.

2)
Gears of War, This is not even a contest for me. Alan Wake looks like the same ol trick stuff with a new paint job. FEAR is amazing game, but still a port at the end of the day and you know what to expect. Half Life Episodic Games are pretty cheap so i don't think it's far to deny them on this list, but again, you know what to expect. Gears looks and plays a little different then anything you've experienced before, it's the first taste we'll have of the Unreal 3 Engine and I don't plan to be denied!

How about flippin’ some burgers or something in the meantime? That way you don’ have to confront yourself with these kind of dilemma’s :P .

As for the list;
1) Even though I already have my copy for Dead Rising LE on preorder we still have to wait and see if it’s really as good as we’ve hoped for. SC4 on the other hand has never let me down before in terms of gameplay and eyecandy, and seems to be the “safe” way to go. Oh, and it’ll probably have some addicting MP features which will hopefully make you come back for more. As for Dead Rising's replay value…….?

2) I’d definitely pick GoW. Been looking forward to playing this “system selling” title since the day I read about it. And from the hands-on previews and footage that have been revealed so far I’d be surprised if this one’s not going to win the GOTY award. I have to add that both FEAR and HL2 are not on my wannahaves list since I’ve already completed both PC versions. Excellent games btw, just don’t feel like starting them all over again…

1) SC4 for sure. I love the Clancy games, and this will be no exception. I've also got Dead Rising preordered though ;)
2) GoW for sure. With Alan Wake I'm waiting for previews so see whether it can realize its potential, and I've already completed HL2, although I'll gladly start that once more if they improve the Source engine a lot, and I need to do Eps. 1 & 2 anyway.

I have just bought Half-Life 2 (well, I swapped some very old games for it) for Xbox1, so I haven't played the multi-player of Half-life 2 or anything else. I have not played F.E.A.R either, so that's why I'm getting all messed up.

Damn, you’ve got some tough choices to make there. I almost (;)) feel sorry for you.
Imho:
HL2 --> best PC single player shooter experience of 2004.
FEAR --> best PC single player shooter experience of 2005.

MP for both games was quite amusing but just didn’t have that ‘thing’ that made you come back for more after a while (although HL2 included CS:Source which had me hooked until BF2 came out).

In the end, if I had to choose one…….I’d choose both :D

Guess you’ll just have to wait and see how well both games are ported to the 360 and what the possible extra’s regarding MP will look like. And then, quite possibly, come to the conclusion that GoW is the game you’ll want to spend your hard earned cash on. Time will tell :) .

Dead Rising and Gears Of War, without a doubt.

Can't stand the Splinter Cell games, I know they look nice and there's some good AI in there and stuff, but the games just bore me. It must be all the stealth, Hitman's the same for me, I can only do it if I just blast through the levels, which in a lot of cases is mission over.

Already played FEAR and HL2 on the PC, I don't know anything about Alan Wake yet really, it's from the Max Payne crew isn't it? Well Max Payne 2 was little more than a glorified bullet time minigame, and there's no way I'd choose it over the immense-looking Gears Of War.

As for Saint's Row... I'll wait for the reviews. Now that GTA4's officially not out for another year, it might be worth a look... as long as it's not too "gangsta". I can't get into that sort of environment, I could connect more with the 80s Vercetti in Vice City than with the "hoods" in San Andreas.

For the record: Alan Wake is not like Max Payne or anything. It's a Twin Peaks style game in a Twin Peaks style mysterious setting.

That's why I'm interested, it looks original, and the graphics are pretty impressive.

Oh no... http://www.xboxyde.com/news_3184_en.html

For anyone who can't access it or just really can't be arsed, it's a proper gangsta-from-da-ghetto-hoodie GTA free roaming game,

Yeah, I'm watching that at the moment, I think that's made my mind up. Facial animation on the Samuel L Jackson lookalike is quite good, otherwise it just looks... worse than GTA.

The correct answers are:

1. Dead Rising
2. Gears (Alan Wake is still tba afaik, it wasn't being shown at E3 and I recall hearing it was postponed. Would make sense since we haven't seen that much from it and since it's a new franchise it could use some hype to sell some games)

Anyone who said something else has a bad taste in gaming.

Saints row- problay want buy because I didn’t really care for GTA SA, not into the thug life thing. But will rent.

SC 4- Most defiantly will buy

Alan Wake- don’t know anything about it.

Gears of War- Most defiantly will buy!

Rainbow Six- Most defiantly will buy!!!

I can't believe you guys just shrug Saints Row off. It's supposed to have some amazing Multiplayer things going on.

Dead Rising could be a flop after a few days of play too.

Ah well, if you're gonna throw Rainbow Six into the equation, that changes things ;)

Is there a release date on it yet? I guess it'll be around Xmas. One for the present list.

Ah, now there's an interesting thing, I forgot about Christmas... Suppose F.E.A.R, Half-life 2 and SC: DA could wait...

Going by what I've seen in some gameplay movies:
Saint's Row = GTA:SA with framedrops and minus Rockstar, population and size. It's either a demo or no buy for me, doesn't look that good at all. Dead Rising on the other hand has a Mega Man suit, zombies and Inafune which automaticly makes it the best game ever.

Oh ok that's good, lets hope they didnt sacrifice anything for it, especially not on the pedestrians because the game doesnt look very lively to me and that's one of the things that helps the great atmosphere in GTA imo.

Now that I have played Half-Life 2, I don't think that a mediocre multi-player and a few Episodic content is enough for a re-buy. (I don't like Counter Strike.) the only thing that would make me want to buy Half-Life 2 for the Xbox 360 would be PORTAL. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gS3ILjVr_vE&search=portal%20half-life) (Impressive Tech. video.) I know on the frontpage, you said it wasn't coming, but I've seen other sites saying it is... What has Valve/EA said about it?

Studley
July 19th, 2006, 15:14
Hell that's awesome, a bit like what they've done in Prey, but more dynamic. Liking that a lot _o_

Did we?

TRIGGER M4N
July 19th, 2006, 18:00
Yeah... - Episode 2 will also include an experimental game called Portal which is a bit more puzzle oriented. Similar to the portal tech seen in Prey but of course a bit more advanced
- The Xbox360 and PS3 releases will come out on the same day as Episode2 for the PC. The 360 and PS3 versions will be HL2 + Ep1 + Ep2 but will not include TF2 or Portal

Now that’s a bitch, but alright: CS Source should be in there still I suppose.

Kind of 2 contradicting sentances there.

i'm sorry, but far cry is a far cry from "next-gen", especially considering its a straight port of 2 original xbox games. i'm going to have to bust this out again:

Far Cry was good on Xbox1 (I don't play PC games.) I remember getting a demo of it and rather liking it, but I never actually bought it. But on release day, my friend bought the limited edition version, and I remember playing it online and thinking "This is shit."
