Considering Xboxic's ongoing growth the time is now here to take the next step in our World Domination Plan: we are going to migrate our sites to their own powerful dedicated server.

Although the new server is already up and running, the migration will cause some downtime as DNS-changes for *.xboxic.com are propagated and databases are transferred. Considering most of our visitors are based in North America and Europe, the planned transfer date is the CET morning of Wednesday August 2nd, starting somewhere around 9~10AM. Not entirely coincidentally, I expect all you guys to be playing Street Fighter II Hyper Fighting at that time and barely notice the maintenance even if you are awake and not at work.

Depending on your ISP's DNS policies, you should automatically be connecting to the new server instead of the old one within an hour. As the transfers are processed, we will focus on reinstating the frontpage first, then the forum, and the wiki last. All in all, based on tests and simulations, you should be able to see the Frontpage again within 1 or 2 hours, and forum and wiki will take somewhat longer since we're also applying software updates for those at the same time.

During the transition all sites will be showing a static maintenance webpage where I will try to update the current status of the migration for all you F5-whores that are not playing SF2 for some reason.

Now some nerd info for the technies out there... Currently we are hosted with some 30 other users (although we are by far the heaviest user) on the following server:
* Pentium 4 3.0Ghz
* 2GB of RAM
* 2*250GB SATA disk in software RAID-1
* Running CentOS 32-bit

After the migration we will be on a slightly more powerful monster:
* Dual Core AMD Opteron 165
* 2GB of RAM
* 4*74GB WD Raptor in hardware RAID-10 via Areca-1110
* Running Debian Linux 64-bit

In theory this will more or less double our capacity, and should the need arise we can easily extend this setup with either dedicated webservers or database servers. For now this should keep us going strong for a few months again though ;)
