OMG!!! What a big shock!!!
I totally can't wait for this game, now!!!
The several months delay will be damn worth it for LIVE!
DenisDenis, let me be the first to tell you how excitied I am!!!
Quick question... will this mean a hike in price, or a change in achievements?
Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! _o_ _o_ _o_ _o_ _o_ _o_ _o_ _o_ _o_ _o_ _o_ _o_ _o_ _o_ _o_ _o_ _o_ _o_

If the achievements work has been done then I say leave it alone and keep this update as simple and focused as possible.
I think Load made the right decision here though. There is still no competition for the product, 2 months won't hurt anybody.

True, true.
I also wonder if this means they can still get the 45 challenges in with only two Expansions or if they will have to have a third. I wonder this because obviously Live is going to take up some space, right?

Adding Live multiplayer does not add anything.
It's just code lines and a little menu touch up.
It won't change size or number of packs.

Denis, I have a question for you. Why did you now decied to add Live? It doesn't make sense to me.
The conclusion I've drawn (which might be wrong...) is that Xbox Live was intended all along, but to test the water, you'd say there wasn't going to be Live. Then, when you saw that so many more people would infact buy it with Live, you added it. However, if people didn't care, you wouldn't have.
I've drawn that conclusion because, while it seems stupid, it's the most logical explanation. Why else would you lose 4 months+ money just to sell more Mad Tracks on XBLA. Unless, of course, you now are thinking of charing 800 MSP instead of 400 MSP. But still, losing 4 months+ of money is a lot... and coffee isn't free
Anyway, it's not like I mind why the reason is, but it would be nice to know. I just really wanna play Mad Tracks now.
And just one tip... while you can randomly shoot Nazis/Allies with lag, you can't randomly turn corners and use pick-ups with lag (i.e. please try and avoid the lag problem)

They are >:)
We were going to be juggling too many balls with implementing Live. When we took this decision with Microsoft (mostly to answer players wish), we also had to take the decision of dropping another project. As you know, we're not Blizzard or Tecmo. We can't 'test the waters' - way too expensive.

The down side is that now everyone has to wait. Maybe I'll be more quiet on forums and overall communication and I will focus on what's coming up.
Regarding frame rate, Xbox360 has very strict requirements. You just can't make a Live game with lag. Happy? 8)

Good thing about online racing is that it allows "player action prediction" to work fine since you can't guess too far off if some network packets get lost. For shooters a short bout of lag is far worse, and for something like DoA4 and SF2 it's horrible.

Denis,
In that interview you said:
"We will not support system link (I still question the use of it – would you go to a friend’s house with your Xbox and tv?). Split screen 4 players is functional. "
Yes, occasionally. But not with a standar TV; I have two projectors. They are very portable and allow for giant screen sizes. Also, most people have more than one TV, so you could just take your Xbox to their house and use one of their other TVs. Live is great, but playing against other people in the same house/room is more fun.
I agree that Xbox Live will get much more use than system link, but it isn't as impractical as you apparently think.
And while split screen may be functional, nobody really likes to share/split their screen, especially with 3 other people.

I agree. In a low priced Live game, I think it is absolutely acceptable to not have system link. I guess I came across a bit strong there, but my point is that this is a nice feature that is practical for some people.

Yea of course it is a nice feature, I loved playing games like Halo, Splinter Cell 2 and 3, and PGR2 all system link at my friends house..it was great fun and was good for a bunch of people, even good if it was two of us.

Scarbir
August 17th, 2006, 02:21
If it shouldn't delay the game, I'd say: implement it rightaway. There aren't too many games to combine 4 player splitscreen ánd system link at the same time, so this should be a must buy for the new guys in town who just bought their 360s.
System Link made Halo: Combat Evolved even bigger in later stadia. Players got convinced and bought their own Xbox. Mad Tracks should do the same lil' trick for XBLA :)
DenisDenis
August 17th, 2006, 11:47
Ok, ok, system link is good.
Actualy, LAN is good.
In terms of performance, it's 1.000 times better than over internet.
I think it's actualy the best way of playing multiplayer.
Heck, we play ReVolt LAN all the time at Load Inc., we also play a lot of Mad Tracks LAN during lunch.
But when we studied the Link system on console (PS2 & Xbox), we came accross some very disapointing figures.
Live is obvious for the Xbox community, Link is not.
Unless someone comes with a VERY solid argument (ie: I will buy 50.000 games if you implement Link) it won't be in. :'(
Still, I think LAN rules. On PC.
Cheers,
Scarbir

As far as I know Load Inc wants to stay focused on the small-team-fun-games efforts for the time being. Retail games require a lot more resources and efforts than XBLA titles.

We could fit in that slot.
So far, we're focussing on XBLA, just like NinjaBee or Pop Cap.
