Have you ever realized that that is not at all a nice thing to say to the guy who has purchased a multi-thousand dollar server to run this site for you? Who is paying 13 news posters to keep this site up to date for you? Who is paying licensing fees for vBulletin so you can use this forum? Who is paying for the gigabytes of traffic we generate with this site for you? Who has actually paid a professional designer for that new logo you are liking? Yes, that guy would be me.

Websites are, like any other economic model, based on the visitor paying for the service they are receiving. The website model usually tries to avoid charging directly by showing advertisements to gain income from the visitors. Effectively, using ad blockers while visiting a site is shoplifting: you're using a product and refusing to pay for it by running away when the invoice arrives. Simply theft.

As you may have noticed, I am very strict in advertising on Xboxic. That means you will never see popups or popunders on Xboxic, and I actively shun banners mimicking error boxes, operating system behaviour, excessive flashing or sound/video not explicitly initiated by the user. I have even responded to complaints about banners several times by immediately removing the campaign in question from rotation on the site. Essentially you won't find any advertising here that I wouldn't like to see myself on another site.

I don't see the whole point in blocking advertising that is not intrusive or irritating. Actually, there are more than enough technical solutions for simply blanking the site to shoplifters blocking our ads, and I may very well enable them in the future. Meanwhile, I'd request you reconsider your decision to block our advertising.

Alternatively I may offer a sort of paid subscription over the next months automatically removing banners and filling the empty space with good looking alternatives. Would you be interested in that?

I personally love the new logo. I think it's awesome. Just curious, but for historical reasons, are you going to post the old logo in Wiki? It'd be cool to have a page about what Xboxic first looked like, and then what it became over time. Just a suggestion.

Haven't seen that ad yet. However, I would have to agree that that ad is a bit... much, shall we say? Im 14 and living at home, and if someone walked in to see that on the screen, they wouldnt be too happy...

You're not the first one to complain about that. I have gotten us a new advertising system a few days ago which aims to do exactly what I want: filter heavily by category rather than forcing me to micromanage hundreds of campaigns. I have just banned some more subcategories of the "suggestive" kinds and hope this explicit kind of banners will not occur anymore since I fully agree they don't belong on the site :)

Xboxic will absolutely never display a popup or popunder advertisement. Hence I have no reason to complain about popup blockers ;) Popups are an irritating and dying breed of advertising which I hate as much as you do.

You do use the facility willingly though. The local bus never forced you to use it, and you can perfectly well walk to work/school/whatever. Does that permit you to hop on the bus and leave 3 stops later without paying a penny? Someone has to pay for the bus, and he/she has done that trusting that all people who use it will pay their few cents when using. If people refuse to do so, the owner might be forced to stop the bus service, hence taking something away from everyone.

It's a fair exchange: you follow the rules on YOUR computer, or you shouldn't be using MY computer. My computer just happens to be a very expensive one in a datacenter on a 100Mbit internet connection in this case.

Considering you apparently didn't know nearly every bigger site gets paid per view mainly for their advertising, I hope you understand the stealing analogy better now. We get paid for every pageview, whether you click on the banner or not is for main campaigns completely irrelevant. It's the banners I use later in the chain (Adsense and the like) that do pay per click mostly. But the first 5~10 banners you see per day per user are all pay-per-view.

I've noticed the change of advertising system. For some reason this new advertising system get's recognized by WebSense which is running on my office network (or my American colleagues added some new software which they did not share with me :(). Instead of advertising I now see only white borders at work. The previous advertising system did not get recognized.. strange.. So you're not making any money on me when I'm at work. Sorry ;) I'll refresh some more when I'm at home to get my quote O-)

I suppose you were only getting the Google AdSense at first anyway :) I'm actually very happy about the new system: it allows me to explicitly define what types of campaigns are allowed, and the network subsequently does the selection. This means I can say for example that alcohol ads are fine but tobacco is not. It's very granular, and it works fine. I disabled some extra categories of the dating type today, which I had expected to be less explicit. But as of now, they won't be happening anymore :)

I don't know why but I just can't stand the whole machine... It's annoying expensive BLUE-RAY (blegh) machine with no things better then the xbox except the height of the price (ok and the build-in blue ray) but since im a xbox fan, blue-ray is supposed to go down :P

Yeah I know it's a little much of the good... I think it has something to do with the ps2, wich I have for more then 4 years (I'm guessing!!) now and I haven't really liked it ever since the 1st year passed...

It also (probably) has to do with the fact that I can't afford it (A) (but mainly becouse of the ps2, and becouse I love the 360... :P)

@Curry: There's a small error on the nintendic site. The hover over on the forum button says "Playstatic forum" instead of "Nintendic Forum".. And the News button on icgamers and nintendic both say "playstatic news".
Guess Playstatic was the first site which was a template for the rest? Shame on you! That should've been nintentic ;)

Other than that; great initiative and all the luck on the new sites. Although I don't like the red on the I See Gamers site that much.. It screams in your face (guess it's just getting used to and will grow on you :))
