View Full Version : Worst launch lineup ever?

I'm not trolling here, I'm genuinely starting to be swayed by the charms of the Wii, and was thinking about buying one at launch, but I had a quick look at the US launch list (http://www.n-sider.com/newsview.php?type=story&storyid=2440) and it's appalling. There's Zelda of course, and Trauma Center might be fun (for a few minutes anyway), but that's about it... Everything else is either movie tie-ins, average games which came out on other consoles last year, or games that other consoles will clearly do better (e.g. COD3).
Someone tell me that there are better games on the way soon? Or some hidden gems that I might have missed?
Is there a Mario Kart Wii on the way?

I'm disappointed as well. In fact, I'm holding off on the Wii thanks to the lacklustre line-up. Excite Truck is looking pretty sweet but I'm no Zelda fan and the lack of Mario, Smash Bros or Mario Kart made me decide to wait a bit longer.

I totally agree (though im really a HUGE Zelda fan) There are indead just to few nice games at line-up...
Second reason for me is that I simply don't have money at the moment (360 took it all }) )

There is enough novelty and content for me at launch to keep me going for a little while.. 360 will take up the bulk of my game time but Wii will be out in full force to show friends and local multiplayer. I'm really looking forward to Wii-sports boxing.

Same here.. As I said before; I'm getting one to play mario galaxy.. That one isn't comming this year so I'm postponing my wii purchase till further notice.

This ...
"updated to take advantage of the Wii remote control"
... is making me very uneasy about Metal Slug.
The launch lineup doesn't seem any worse than what was on offer at the 360 launch. Some games I'm interested in. Some games I'm never going to be interested in. A few games where I'll wait for further reports. Pretty much your usual launch fodder.

I'm kind of happy the Wii has a shitty launch lineup. That's just $250 I get to keep for that much longer.

How much of that is actual Wiimote action? Because that looked pretty cool to me. Especially the stuff with the swords. Not entirely convinced about the gun bits tbh. Looked a bit clunky.
It's also worth noting that the Wiimote makes you look a bit of a dick when gaming. All that pointing at the TV as if you're some nutter channel hopping on speed. Wonder what my girlfriend will make of it.
Impressive though. Cool and unusual.

That movie had me watching silently the first time I saw it :) I have no idea how long the gimmick will last, but I'm willing to give it a try ;)

Yea, looked good, I'll embrace the graphics and enjoy the hell outta the games. I think it would be sweet if they got Rainbow 6 Vegas on the Wii, that way online matches would be really all about skill.

I dont know guys but I pre ordered a wii to just get home after the midnight launch and fool around with it. Try that remote with the sport games and just have fun really . Its going to my first launch I been to as well so look forward to it.
The games coming out arent that high which I agree with you all but Im interested in zelda , red steel or super monkey ball if I got any spare money after my 360 games I want to buy ( in case your wondering its Sonic , PSU and maybe Gears of War ^_^)
But still there's the new sonic coming to the wii and mario galaxy , plus Im sure nintendo will fill it with the same top games its been releasing on the ds.

Red Steel looks ok-ish but it's not a system seller for me.
Monkey Ball and Sonic are both looking very good as well but still no reason for me to shell out 250$ + 60$ (second wiimote nunchuck) + 60$ (another game).

Yea, it's turning out to be a bit pricier than I had hoped. Cheaper, but still all added up it will be a bit.

A whole functional set will be rather more expensive than often predicted before, but hell I think it'll be fun :) I'm more or less obliged to buy one anyway "for the company" O-)

Having a Wii60 myself, of which the 360 since day 1, I definitely disagree here. CoD2, PGR3 and Condemned were awesome, and for example Kameo was also very good material. On the Wii I have Zelda, which is rather complicated by the fact that I've been playing Oblivion on the 360 for the past few weeks: sorry, but an RPG is about immersion: and terrific graphics, wide-open environments and characters actually speaking beats Zelda for me hands down, if like me you're not an old-school Zelda fanboy. As for the rest of the launch lineup I'm still looking for games that I'd prefer playing on the Wii over the 360. If you have a 360 already, Wii launch lineup definitely sucks. If you don't I'd say it's 'mediocre' at best.

Warioware: Smooth Moves is pretty fun and quick. Zelda and WarioWare are the only two games I have and the only two games (imo) worth having.
I heard Metal Slug and Rayman were pretty good, but I haven't play those yet.

If you have a 360 already, the PS3 launch lineup is even worse (http://www.ukresistance.co.uk/2007/01/sony-announces-xbox-360-launch-line-up.html) :D

Blah... by the time I find a Wii it will probably be March... and then there will be a handful more decent games at least :)
