Running XP on an Apple Powerbook Pro

Does any of you guys have any experience with running Windows on an Apple Powerbook using Bootcamp? Thinking about saving for one of those very sweet machines.

Well, the design is one thing. Also, what Ive seen from Mac OS, it is pretty cool. But I have a lot of apps which I run a lot under Windows. So I want to know how Windows XP runs under a Mac

I'm assuming the guy above is talking about macbook pro. You can't run Windows on a powerbook, only on the macs with the intel processors. I'm on my macbook right now and I love it. Mac OS is just awesome, so much cleaner and easier to use than windows. No drivers bullshit, no viruses to worry about, great support (not that i have ever needed it) and this is just one sexy ass laptop. Everything about it is so well thought out.

Windows has run on Macs for years with VirtualPC, but it ran slow and was a pain in the ass to use because it just emulated an x86 (i think thats correct) processor over the native PowerPC arceteture in previous macs. Now that macs run on intel, bootcamp can run Windows nativley, not like I would be stupid enough to waste any space by installing that. If their is a program you must have that you can't get on mac (I've never encountered that problem, maybe a few years ago, but not now) you can get a niffty little think called CrossOver, for PowerPC macs, or CrossOver Mac, for Mac intels. That way you don't have to run windows but can run windows programs really easy. I have used it just to try it out and it works great, I didn't see any performance difference, which suprised me. Also, to continue that Mac vs. PC.... vs. Linux (I suppose) debate

1. Never have any of my 5 or so macs that I have owned (besides that apple II, from the 90's) have ever froze. I constantly run my bittorrent clients, downloading tons of movies, music and shows, usually am using garage band (which is processor heavy), run Frostwire, Safari (not on PC, best web browser I have ever used, and I have used them all), VLC and Mercury Messenger (Oh and Dashboard). Thats just what I have booted up everytime I use my computer.

2. More simple doesn't mean less options or power, it just means I don't get frusterated with my Mac at all. I never lose things because Mac's search is EXTREMEMLY powerful. The new search in Tiger, called spotlight, is simply ridiculous. I don't now ow in the world they made it, but it is amazing.

3. Tiger is very pleasing to the eye. Smooth animations and great, easy colors to designate different buttons and options.

4. Dashboard is the most pimp thing ever... period.

5. Never have had to install a driver. Not even with the PSP.

6. All the new Vista features I read about... I think about how long I have already had those features in Tiger. Vista is making copys of almost every feature in Tiger. It's no worry though, because Leopard is coming next year, and then Microsoft will have to play catch up again.

7.Just found this feature. A built in context-sensitive dictionary . Cmd-Cntrl-D over ANY text, whether it be a webpage, or well, anthing and mac will put the definition in a little fancy box bellow the word in .2 seconds. Just cool.

Apple OS X is a lot different than the OS 9 that most people think of when they think of apple. OS 9 was pretty lame (cool when it came out), but Tiger beats XP's ass silly. Go to an Apple store and just try one out. I see no reason at all to not use one (unless for gaming, although you can game on a mac, obviously Windows is better at the MOMENT). I think its an almost perfect OS. It does everything I want it to so simply and seamlessly.

Thx a lot dude. Didnt know about the whole CrossOver thing. Will look into this further. I did know you could run Windows in a Virtual Enviroment, but that is not what I need. I'm a Microsoft Engineer and am afraid a lot of tools I use for support wont really run on Mac, but only one way to find out :)

No prob bro, just cool to see you are using a mac, I hope you fall in love with them like I have! So a Macbook pro then? Nice. I wanted to get one but I didn't have the cash. The macbook does what I need it to. Make sure you look into CrossOver Mac (Not regular Crossover) since you are on intel.

haha thats a pretty idiotic statement. Maybe from your point of view, but I buy apples for the OS. Design is merely a bonus. It helps that they put so much thought into the design. Not only sexiness, but great features within the actual hardware, exspecially the laptops. Most Apple users buy for the OS bro.

Exactly. Plus, it's not like you can't change the size of the icons if you want haha. A lot better looking than XP, definitley, not too mention more organized.

i have to agree, i dont have any kind of extensive experience with a mac but i was playing around with one a few days ago and it was like a playskool toy.
