Where you live. Living in America, it's horrible. I was wondering if it was any better where you guys lived. We pay like $40USD/month for 5 down, and we still only get about 2 down.
Please do tell your speeds.

I've got 8mbit down, 1mbit up for 35 euro/month including Usenet payserver. I only get about 6mbit of that speed though because I live too far from the central phone thingy. In the Netherlands ofcourse :)

i am in san francisco, ca in merka, and i have the comcast cable gamers delight dealio. i get 8Mb down (though usually more like 10!), but unfortunately only get about 750k up (never ever more). this costs me about $50 merkin a month plus i have to get their cheesy cable t.v. which i already upgraded like an ass (those bastards sucked me in with comedy central for the daily show (one of the most worthwhile shows on in my opinion)).

I think Studley meant 2Mb/sec instead of 2MB ;)
On the other hand, we've been having ADSL2+ for a while already in the Netherlands, offering 20Mbps like Messiah mentioned. Don't think you're going to find any faster than that without resorting to glass fibre :)

It's not ADSL or ADSL2 though, that can technically only do 1024 up?

Not completely true... With the current modems it is, but somehow they're working on a ADSL2+ modem with 3mbit upload. It'll cost you a couple of mbit download, but who cares if now the most got 20mbit or so

I'm not 100% sure on what my download speed is supposed to be. It's either 6 or 8 mbps. I pay for 768 kbps upload.
Whenever I do speed test, I get 5.5mbps down and 700 kbps up.
I usually host games when I play with friends. I do have one friend with Verizon FIOS. That's like 15mbps down and 2 mbps up. He hosts when he's around.

1.5mb down 256k up w/ a 17gig a month download cap. This cost $80 a month. I'm on satellite internet, because it is the only thing available besides dial-up in my area. :'( Oh yah did I mention the latency is 1300ms+, which is 1.3 seconds!

If you can't find tests that measure what you have, maybe you're like the most of us who pay for one thing but don't actually receive it. I mean, how do you actually know if you get 20down/up other than your bill?

You don't.
You are paying for a maximum of XX but they do not report to supply that at all times, if ever. Thats just the most you could ever get in theory.
