1080p --> which reasonably priced monitor/HDTV?

I was curious about screens that can do 1080p. And especially with the fall update, giving 1080p output, I think more people are looking into it.

But the screens are so damn expensive! But by coïncidence I ran into a 24 inch widescreen monitor from Dell that can do 1080p and has a component port also. It's the Dell 2407 24" and should cost around 800 Euro's at this point in time (I saw it for about 700 dollars on the international site from Dell). This is the info:

It's not exactly 1080p resolution, having 1920 x 1200 resolution

It has all the same features as the Dell one but with a faster response time (all important) and HDMI/HDCP support. My main reason for buying it is as a PC montior but i will definitely be plugging my Xbox360 into it as well.

Nice one! Why wouldn't be it released? Is there any sort of release date set for this one?

A 24 inch screen is ok if you'd ask me. On the other hand, is 720p <--> 1080p noticable on smaller screens or is it only really visable when you get over 42 inch for example?

The screen was supposed to be released at the beginning of September then October now November :( but they assure everyone it will be VERY soon. Just seems like i've waiting for ever for it to come out(first read about it in Feb). As for being able to see the difference between 720p and 1080p on a small screen i would say yes if you sit fairly close ( 1-2 meters ) i know if i play games on my 21" pc monitor at 800*600 compared to say 1280*1024 the difference is highly noticeable so i would say the same could be said for 720p>1080p on a 24" widescreen monitor. As soon as it comes out i guess i'll find out :) (if the 360's update is out first)

The 360 update in a few days I guess like everyone expects. A fall update is meant to be in fall and I guess not in winter ;) So it'll be here very soon I guess.

Yeah i will be buying it as soon as i can. As soon as i get my grubby mits on it i will report back. Hopefully i'll get it before GoW comes out so i can play that in spectacular 1080p' o-vision.

GoW is in 720p right? So in the best case it'll be upscaled to 1080p. I am more curious about Lost Planet which is talked about being in native 1080p and I really hope Halo 3 in 1080p actually. Although I don't have a 1080p screen yet it would be nice to see the difference

Not sure really what res. GoW is in but i will be interested to see the upscaled compared to the native. As for Lost Planet i would be very surprised if any game is native 1080p it's alot to ask from the Xbox360 maybe small arcade games yes but i doubt big games will manage it, time will tell i guess.

Depends on what you define as 'big' games. The games at the beginning of the console life cycle don't demand the maximal power of the console, thus having more power to do these extra demanding 1080p native output.

If I just compare it to the old XBOX, standard is 480p, but actually it could do 720p or even 1080i also (on PAL systems you need to have a modchip/softflash, activate the NTSC and have a MS HDTV cable pack to use it, the cable pack gives Dolby Digital 5.1 optical output also and is worth the 40 Euro's I paid for it).

That were earlier games on 720p and the less demanding ones (also not the most wanted games).

So there will be more then only arcade games in 1080p. I even bet there will be more then on last gen XBOX in comparing 480p/720p and this gen 360 720p/1080p. Just because back then there weren't so many people with an HDTV/capable of doing 720p alhtough at this time there aren't so much people owning a HDTV yet (only 5% of all TV's) and of them a real small number has 1080p.

But with the Dell and BENQ monitors are closer to everyones budget instead of the 4.000 EUro native 1080p HDTV's ;)

I guess we'll see some really nice 1080p native games not to far from now. MS will beat Sony in it's own game 'true HD' just to get the PS3 pwned by the 360!

I hope we do see them, it would be a very pleasant surprise as i never expected it it from the 360 when i brought it, as it never even had the option to output at that resolution. I still maintain though that 360 will struggle (probably as much as PS3) to play a game of say GoW's graphical quality in native 1080p, although i hope i am proved very wrong in this instance.

I just hope they can keep up with the demand for it. There are an awful lot of people like me who have been waiting the best part of 6 months for this now. Damn hope i get it soon the money is burning a hole in my pocket.

As for the Xblue's 61" beast, man i would not even be able to get that through my front door let alone have anywhere to put it. DLP though is just not as sharp as i would like i looked at some smaller DLP stuff when i brought my 42" Plasma and it took me all of 10 seconds to decide the quality was just not good enough, best of luck though dude i'm sure you are going to love it and maybe games will look awesome on it.

Not ones close to 3000 dollars/euro's ;)

At least, compared to the 24 inch Benq or Dell screens for about 800 Euro's that's insane.

It's nice though, but it doesn't belong in this topic I guess. What's reasonably? Well ofcourse price compared to what you get. But let's say maximum 1.400 Euro's solutions
