I have had my 360 since mid Jan this year with absolutely no issues whatsoever....until yesterday evening. I switched it on, downloaded the update then went to play the Tony Hawks Demo, it froze within a minute of playing it. Same happened with Fifa 07, Splinter Cell DA and PG3....out of nowhere this has started!!! I can't help but feel it has something to do with the fall update. Has anyone else experienced this? What do people think it is? Also its wierd because PES 6 plays with no issues!! There are no shiny red lights, no loud whirring noises, just the games lock up.....I am sooo fucked off.....help!!!

Yep, one person has advised me to send it in, after stating the fucking obvious i.e have you checked the time and date and another I am calling back at 6 to delete the download cache and see if that sorts it....

No luck then yet Bezza, maybe formating the hard drive might help you but you are going to lose all your save games unless you can transfer them onto something else like a memory card. Boy would i be pissed if this happened to me.
Good Luck dude i hope you get it sorted.

The Rainbow Six demo crashed on me last night, mind you it's crashed on me before the update too.
It's really annoying, any time I get anywhere half decent in that demo, it crashes :(

I UPDATED THE FRONTPAGE POST:
Xbox Support is currently stating (http://gathering.tweakers.net/forum/list_message/26766176#26766176) if you call them that a fix should be out within 2 days to solve the problems. For possible resolutions they’re suggesting meanwhile check this forumpost (http://forum.teamxbox.com/showpost.php?p=8310370&postcount=210). Still no official word from Microsoft via the regular channels.
On a related note, my 360 just locked up when I wanted to start Mutant Storm Reloaded. No problems apart from that.

Oh and the last time I turned on my 360, it said "Play DVD" at the bottom instead of "Play Game", even though I had a game in the drive. Didn't actually try to play the game but I'm guessing it hadn't read the disc properly.

I've had the same problem. I've been experiencing games freezing since the last update. It doesn't matter if it's a downloaded demo, or a retail disc. Whatever I'm playing, the game ends up freezing at random times. Sometimes it's after 10 minutes, sometimes it's after an hour. I've played an hour plus and have had no freezing.
Since I've got my 360 last March, I've only had 3 or 4 freezes total up until this last update, (and those were with Oblivion before they put out a patch). This is very frustrating, and from what I've read on some forums, I'm not alone.
This seems to be something different than others have had with the 360 bricking. I'm reading more and more people are having the same issue.

The update just bricked mine, pure and simple. Worked fine before it went online, E71 and red lights afterwords, no matter how many times I booted it up :(.

Yeah whoever said that should've paid more attention before. If it ever was in sync it was accidental: the 360 generates its encryption key tables during the startup animation, which takes varying amounts of time and load, hence making it random anyway and sometimes jerking up the animation.

I swear it was always in sync with the sound before the update. Everytime I bothered to watch the thing boot it was right on time. Nowadays the initial 'black screen' before the animation takes longer to disappear.

Perhaps that's where they do the DVD-drive firmware checks now :+
