View Full Version : Images in signatures?

...Would it be possible?

I know a lot of people have a link in their sig to an image of their gamercard, because images are disabled in signatures, but I think it would be a nice feature.

I can understand you might not want images if people might abuse it, but we can put images in our posts and we've all been good so far O-)

Images in sigs are extremely annoying. But if it was only a small horizontal picture it would be fine by me.

Something like that?

The forum's set up to display your Gamertag under your avatar if you've entered it, you could code it so that if you've got a Gamertag, it automatically displays the image http://www.glop.org/gamercard/card/[insert Gamertag here]-forumgames.png underneath posts?

I could supply the PHP if you wish ;)

Something like that looks quite allright. Curry already added the Gamertag when we just opened our forum and I don't know if he likes this idea. He's probably busy playing GRAW at the moment, so you'll have to wait :P

I tried to put my GamerTag in my avatar but it keeps saying invalid URL. So I just screenshot it and hosted it from my Photobucket account. The only bad part about that is it doesnt update.

I agree most sigs are annoying and they slow the site down to much. It's a person with dial-up nightmare...

You're avatar is quite unreadable :P

I know but I could find a pic small enough to put in it....Gosh...

I have actively decided to disable signature images when configuring the forum (vBulletin has them enabled by default actually) because I and many other people hate the situations on other forums where people have actual 640x480 images in their signatures in all colors of the rainbow.

Currently the forum is nice and clean with a consistent styling and layout and I personally am very glad there's no screaming banners under every post, and that every post is only like 300 pixels high on average instead of 2 screens. Regrettably there is no option to limit the size of signature images, otherwise I would consider it. As it stands now, I go with the majority: there's several dial-in users on these forums already and the responses in this topic are not positive towards sig images, so I'm not enabling them, sorry :)

For gamercards there is no issue, because you can indeed enter the gamertag in your profile and they show up next to every post. People can click on them then themseves if they want to know your scores :)

If someone finds a very limited height banner in good coloring (think this one (http://my.livecard.net/asig/curry684.png) but even smaller height and Xboxic colors) and with a fast server (mygamercard.net and livecard tend to be slow) I could modify the templates so it automatically shows it underneath each post if you have a gamertag in your profile. Again however, this would depend on users actually wanting it. For now I myself consider the gamertag link to the left of the posts sufficient.

Did some final polishing on look&feel, and I'm happy now I think :)

Cache-lifetime is set at 1 hour btw, so changes in score or last played games may take 1 to 60 minutes to be updated.

Temporarily disabled, the code isn't too resilient to whole frigging xbox.com timing out :X

Disabled? Why? I noticed the time-outs too but I thought it was my PC that wasn't responding :X

Gamercards are only fetched in topics ;) Since live.xbox.com times out currently and the forum tries to retrieve maximum 2 gamercards per pageview if they expired from cache, one cache miss would (and did) already trigger a backend timeout and as such a frontend timeout on any topic view.

Will restore when the bitches fixed live.xbox.com.

Can't you just fix this or something? You're a developer for crying out loud!

I fixed it didn't I? Gamercards aren't working atm, so I removed them :P

When this page (http://live.xbox.com/member/curry684) works again, I'll reinstate them immediately :)

Hmm when I look at the original live.xbox.com pages they also got a lot of question marks for game pictures... guess they're still finishing stuff.
