Yeah, modding isn't such a good idea. I think they can detect that crap within 5 minutes of being on live.

First you're going to get banned, then J Allard comes to rape your pets (that's what he does now) and then Major Nelson sets your house on fire. If anyone gets out alive then you're bound to face the Gatesminator, noone has ever survived that.

Modding is detectable, and a breach of Microsoft's EULAs, for which they can ban you. EULAs do not have any value in court in criminal cases, however the firmware mod is constructed using Microsoft's copyrighted original firmware, which makes it a breach of copyright, and as such a criminal offense. If you mod the box and then run illegal copies of copyrighted software, you are also committing a crime technically. Highly theoretically you could end up in jail on both counts (but it's more or less as likely as a meteor dropping on the Statue of Liberty unless you're commercially exploiting copyright infringements).
Realistically, the only thing that could happen is a ban, but given that Microsoft is still not acting against modders any more than some lame defenses in the dashboard updates, the risk is negligible. My bet is that Microsoft is thanking the modders for making them reach the 10.4 million mark before the end of 2006.

What's with all the donkey hatred ? You folks are nasty .....

Also, considering all the "extended services" they have added and will continue to add M$ seems to be more than confident that security will not be compromised. Seeing how they probably view the Live Marketplace as *THE* future business platform for xbox AND windows they show a very relaxed attitude towards hacks these days. Then again, if you need them to place your hardware in the market ..... who would doubt their strategies ? ![]() |
