I am in the United States, and I need to buy an XBox 360 for my stepdaughter who is now in Perth. I am having a ridiculously bloody hard time doing this. I have a few questions:
- Advertised prices I can find appear to indicate the 360 is more expensive in Australia than in the US. Is that correct? - Australia is PAL, right? And I think the 360 is region-locked, right? And obviously the power adapters are different in Australia than in the US. How can I make sure that the 360 I'm getting is really the version she needs to get? - Where can I order it? The online sites I can find for Australia (Myer, KMart, Target, Coles) appear to be shit as far as online ordering goes. They don't support delivery like Amazon does. Amazon.com doesn't appear to let me ship to Australia, and I think if I order from EB Games I'm getting a US version of the 360, not an Australian version. Can anyone out there help? Thanks, David |

I can only answer your second question, Australia is PAL territory and the Xbox 360 is indeed region locked. According to this Wiki page, Australia uses a different power standard (both plug and voltage differ from the US)

Hello, and welcome to the forums.
I'm not sure about the 360 being more expensive in AU, but it's likely. Yes, Xbox 360 is region-locked. Not sure if AU is Pal, but I think it is. Hmm... as far as where to buy it goes, I don't know any AU online shops. Sorry.

Send her a US 360 with a plug converter, then tell her to import games from the US which are probably cheaper. Or send you money and you'll buy and ship them. Unless you're feeling generous of course and pay the extra $100 and get it from Auss.

That's great info. I'm looking at the $769.95 bundle, which looks like a reasonable deal. I can't enter my US billing info right now, so I'm not sure I'm going to be able to complete the transaction, but that's the best lead I've had yet.
Thanks! |

Yes, Australia is PAL for sure
I got a free game when I was in Sydney, which was a PAL copy explicitly.

If you do import games, you can also go to http://www.play-asia.com and also get games from there. |
